The bell rang at dawn.
It was deep and resonant.
The sound spread across the Azure Sky Sect grounds like a wave hitting stone.
It rang once twice, three times.
Every movement stopped.
People holding wooden practice swords froze in mid-air.
Steps stopped.
Voices were cut short.
Even the wind seemed to hesitate.
Lin Tian stood still in the courtyard breathing steadily.
The Chaos Qi inside him settled naturally feeling dense, responsive and quiet waiting.
He looked up toward the platform.
Figures had already gathered there.
Inner disciples stood in formation wearing robes and controlling their presence.
Behind them stood instructors.
Above them all an elder stood alone hands behind his back and eyes half-lidded.
Nothing escaped his notice.
The bells sound faded and silence followed, complete and utter.
Then a voice spoke, calm and unhurried.
"You have trained " it said.
The voice wasn't loud. It carried, reaching every corner of the courtyard.
"You have learned " it continued.
There was a pause.
". Learning without testing is meaningless."
The elders gaze moved slowly not focusing or lingering. Every disciple felt seen, weighed and measured.
Lin Tian didn't shift,. His focus sharpened.
"The Outer Disciple Trial will begin in three days " the elder announced.
The words settled heavily like stones dropped into water creating ripples that spread instantly.
Some disciples straightened others stiffened and a few smiled faintly showing anticipation, ambition or fear.
Lin Tian remained still. Inside something aligned.
Three days wasn't enough for perfection. It was enough for readiness.
The elder continued "This trial will determine your standing, your access to resources and your future within the sect."
Each sentence added weight, layer upon layer until the meaning became unavoidable.
This wasn't routine or formality; this was selection.
"The rules are simple " the elder said, raising one hand slightly.
"Advance, endure, survive " he instructed.
There was a pause letting the final word settle.
Survive, not win or excel but survive.
"There are no restrictions beyond intent to kill " the elder clarified.
The courtyard tightened, breaths. Eyes sharpened.
Injury was allowed conflict was. Mercy was optional.
Lin Tians expression didn't change,. The Chaos Qi within him shifted, becoming slightly tighter and faster responsive and aware.
"Failure will not be punished " the elder stated, his tone
". Being unprepared will be " he added, a subtle but absolute difference.
Unprepared meant elimination, quiet and final.
The elder lowered his hand and the trials location was revealed: beyond the grounds.
A ripple broke through the stillness, stronger this time and uncontained.
Outside there were no controlled courtyards or monitored training spaces; it was unpredictable and unstructured, the world.
Lin Tians eyes sharpened.
That mattered more than anything
Inside the sect there were limits; outside there were none.
"You will face disciples, environment and what lies beyond both " the elder said, pausing long enough.
"Prepare " he commanded.
The pressure lifted,. Not completely.
"Dismissed " the elder said.
Sound returned at once like a barrier breaking.
Voices rose footsteps echoed and whispers spread quickly.
"They're sending us outside?" someone asked.
"No restrictions... That means—" another replied.
Lin Tian didn't move; he listened, not to the words but to the tone, excitement, fear and calculation.
Everyone was already adapting, planning and choosing how to survive.
A presence approached, steady, measured and familiar.
"Gu Chen " Lin Tian said, not turning.
"Yes " Gu Chen replied, stopping beside him close but not intruding.
His gaze remained forward watching the dispersing crowd.
"The trial won't wait for your method to stabilize " Gu Chen observed.
Lin Tian responded immediately "It doesn't need to."
There was a silence.
Then Gu Chen said, "You're changing it."
Lin Tian nodded once.
"Perfect control is too slow " he explained.
"I need something " he added.
Gu Chen glanced at him briefly then ahead.
"Functional over perfect " he said.
"Yes " Lin Tian agreed.
Another pause followed.
"That's the way you survive " Gu Chen stated.
Lin Tians eyes remained steady.
"I don't need it to be perfect " he said.
"I just need it to work " he clarified.
Gu Chens expression shifted slightly not in surprise. In recognition.
"You're learning faster than most " he observed.
"You're also taking risks " he noted.
Nearby a group of disciples passed, their voices. Not enough.
"That's him " one said.
"The one from yesterday " another added.
Lin Tian ignored them completely.
Gu Chen did the same. He spoke quietly "You won't stay unnoticed anymore."
Lin Tians gaze didn't shift.
"I wasn't planning to " he said.
Gu Chen studied him for a moment longer than before then a faint smile appeared, small but real.
"Then don't die," he. Stepped away no hesitation, no farewell just gone, like always.
Lin Tian remained where he stood.
The courtyard continued to empty. The space felt different, heavier not from pressure but from expectation.
He inhaled deeply. The Chaos Qi responded instantly.
This time he shaped it differently not fully compressing or releasing it. Finding a balance.
Part was. Part was flowing.
He stepped forward. The Qi followed, immediate, with no delay or strain.
He moved again stepping, turning, flowing, compressing and releasing not completely.
A cycle formed, more responsive less powerful, but stable and usable.
He stopped, held the state and felt it.
This was it not the Condensation Flow he had aimed for but something better suited for reality, unpredictability and combat.
He exhaled slowly.
This would be enough for now for three days to refine this version prepare his body and survive.
He. Walked away from the courtyard.
The sect grounds stretched ahead with paths crossing and disciples moving with purpose.
Everyone was preparing, changing.
The gates in the distance stood closed, silent, but not for long.
Beyond them lay the unknown, the uncontrolled and the real world.
Lin Tians steps remained steady unhurried, but certain.
He didn't look back because there was nothing behind him returning to only forward only the path he was building.
The Chaos Qi within him moved quietly balanced, adaptive and waiting not, for perfection. For action.
Lin Tian exhaled more, soft and controlled.
"Three days " he said, the words absolute.
This time he wouldn't just endure or adapt; he would step forward. Face whatever waited beyond the Azure Sky Sect walls not as a disciple following a path but as one creating his own.
