Darkness did not close in.
It got bigger.
The moment Lin Tian crossed the threshold of the Door of Chaos the space around him lost all shape. There were no walls, no ground, no ceiling. A huge changing area where even distance felt unclear.
Yet he was not falling.
Not standing.
Not moving.
Yet.
He was.
His Chaos Qi stirred, trying to map the surroundings.. Unlike before there was nothing to touch nothing to reflect against. His senses went outward …. Returned with no boundaries.
No resistance.
No confirmation.
Only … motion.
Lin Tian's eyes narrowed a bit.
"This isn't a space " he said quietly.
Gu Chen's voice came faintly as if carried from away.
"…It's a state."
Lin Tian breathed out slowly.
That makes sense.
The previous trials had removed certainty.
This one had removed structure.
A small ripple went through the void.
Lin Tian felt it. Not as a force. As a change in possibility. His Chaos Qi reacted subtly adjusting without command.
Then.
Something showed up.
A platform.
Small. Round. Made of stone that hovered in place without support. Its edges were uneven always changing, pieces breaking away and reforming in arrangements.
Lin Tian stepped onto it.
The moment his foot made contact the platform stabilized. A bit.
His Chaos Qi flowed downward instinctively interacting with it.
The platform responded.
Not becoming solid completely.
Aligning … for a moment.
Lin Tian's gaze got sharper.
"So it forms based on my Qi."
"Or collapses because of it " Gu Chen added.
Lin Tian didn't respond.
Ahead another platform showed up.
Further away.
Then another.
Another.
A path.
Not a stable one.
Each platform flickered in and out of existence their positions shifting unpredictably. Some overlapped. Others drifted apart. A few broke completely before reforming
There was no route.
No correct sequence.
Only … opportunity.
Lin Tian stepped forward.
The moment he left the platform it broke into pieces dissolving into the void.
His foot landed on the next.
It shook violently.
His Chaos Qi surged instinctively to stabilize it.
The platform cracked.
Lin Tian's eyes got sharper.
Too forceful.
He adjusted instantly reducing the output allowing changes instead of forcing uniform stability.
The platform steadied.
Not perfectly.
Enough.
Step.
Shift.
Turn.
Flow.
Each movement required control. Not of strength but of variation. Too. The platforms rejected him. Too. They broke completely.
It wasn't about keeping balance.
It was about changing
The path twisted.
One platform rose higher.
Another sank.
A third rotated slowly in place.
Lin Tian moved without hesitation his Chaos Qi constantly shifting in micro-adjustments.
His body followed naturally adapting to each configuration without pausing to analyze.
A shift.
The platform beneath him disappeared.
Lin Tian didn't react.
His body dropped.. His Chaos Qi flowed outward not to stop the fall but to interact with the space itself.
A new platform formed beneath him.
Barely.
Just enough for him to land.
Gu Chen's voice carried a hint of surprise.
"You're not trying to predict it "
"No " Lin Tian said calmly.
"I'm responding as it happens."
Another step.
Another shift.
The void pulsed faintly the platforms forming now more erratic. Some showed up for an instant before vanishing. Others split into fragments forcing him to choose where to land mid-motion.
Lin Tian's breathing remained steady.
His Chaos Qi flowed continuously. Not in fixed cycles. In evolving patterns. Each moment different from the last yet all connected.
The deeper he went.
The less the platforms felt like obstacles.
The more they felt like … extensions of his movement.
A sudden ripple spread through the void.
Stronger than before.
The platforms froze.
All of them.
For a moment everything became still.
Then.
They collapsed.
At once.
Lin Tian fell.
This time there was no platform forming beneath him.
No surface.
No direction.
Only the endless void.
His Chaos Qi surged.
Stilled.
His expression remained calm.
"If there's no path …" he said softly "then I'll make one."
His Qi expanded outward. Not forcefully not searching. But blending with the void. Of trying to shape it he let his flow merge with the shifting state around him.
For a moment.
Nothing happened.
Then.
A platform formed beneath his feet.
Not separate from the void.
Part of it.
Stable.
Not because it resisted change.
Because it moved with it.
Lin Tian landed softly.
His eyes opened slowly.
The platform beneath him no longer flickered.
It flowed.
Subtly shifting,. Never collapsing.
His Chaos Qi mirrored it perfectly.
Gu Chen's voice was quiet.
"…You've crossed a threshold."
Lin Tian didn't answer.
He stepped forward.
A new platform formed ahead of him. Instantly smoothly without instability.
Then another.
Another.
No hesitation.
No delay.
The path now responded directly to him. Not because he controlled it but because he understood it.
Step.
Shift.
Turn.
Flow.
Each movement was natural.
Effortless.
The void no longer felt empty.
It felt … alive.
Welcoming.
In the distance something began to form.
Not a platform.
Not a path.
A structure.
Huge.
Incomplete.
Always changing like the platforms before.. On a much larger scale.
Lin Tian slowed as he approached.
His Chaos Qi pulsed softly.
"This must be the stage " he said.
Gu Chen didn't reply immediately.
When he did his voice was low.
"…Be careful."
Lin Tian's gaze remained steady.
"I always am."
The structure solidified a bit as he neared.
Fragments aligned.
Patterns emerged.
At its center.
A figure began to take shape.
Not an echo.
Not an illusion.
Something else.
Lin Tian stepped forward his Chaos Qi flowing in controlled variation.
The path, behind him dissolved.
The void shifted.
The next trial … showed itself.
