Chapter 44 - Chapter 43 – Gu Chen’s Warning

The three doors stood in silence.

Lin Tian stopped a steps away his eyes fixed on them as his Chaos Qi spread out in thin strands. Each door reacted differently. Not in energy but in presence.

The left door gave off a sense of stability.

Its surface was smooth with geometric carvings that fit together in rigid patterns. The Qi around it flowed in lines, precise and controlled.

Order.

The middle door pulsed violently.

Cracks ran across its surface releasing bursts of energy that flared and collapsed without rhythm. The air around it trembled faintly as if it couldn't contain the pressure inside.

Destruction.

The third -

Lin Tian's focus lingered on it.

The right door was quiet.

No violent pulses. No rigid structure. Its surface seemed ordinary yet the longer he looked the more it shifted subtly. Patterns forming and dissolving never settling into a fixed shape.

Its Qi didn't flow in lines.

Did it erupt chaotically.

It moved.

Adaptive. Unpredictable. Alive.

Chaos.

Lin Tian exhaled slowly.

"They're not doors " he said.

"No " Gu Chen replied, his voice serious. "They're paths."

Lin Tian didn't move.

His Chaos Qi extended further touching each door carefully.

The moment it touched the Door of Order -

His Qi tightened.

Not forced,. Compressed, drawn into stricter circulation. Every fluctuation smoothed out every imperfection corrected.

It felt stable.

Efficient.

Suffocating.

Lin Tian withdrew his Qi.

Then he reached toward the Door of Destruction.

The reaction was immediate.

His Chaos Qi surged wildly pulled into oscillations. Power spiked sharply expanding beyond his limits. But at the cost of control.

It was intoxicating.

Dangerous.

He pulled back again.

Finally -

He extended his Qi toward the door.

The Door of Chaos.

This time the reaction was different.

There was no force.

No correction.

No surge.

His Chaos Qi merged.

Not completely not deeply.. Enough to create a resonance. The flow between them aligned briefly then diverged, aligned again in shifting patterns.

It felt natural.

Not easy.

Lin Tian opened his eyes fully.

"I see " he said quietly.

Gu Chen didn't answer away.

When he did his voice carried a weight Lin Tian hadn't heard before.

"Listen carefully Lin Tian."

Lin Tian's gaze sharpened slightly.

"These doors are not trials. They represent cultivation paths that many cultivators have pursued."

Gu Chen paused.

Then continued.

"The path of Order offers stability, clarity and control. If you choose it your Chaos Qi will be reshaped. Refined into something predictable more accepted."

Lin Tian said nothing.

"The path of Destruction " Gu Chen went on "offers power. Explosive growth.. It consumes more than it gives. Many who walk that path lose themselves before they realize it."

Lin Tian's expression remained calm.

"And the third?" he asked.

Gu Chen was silent for a moment.

Then -

"The path of Chaos..."

His voice lowered.

"...is not a path anyone should walk lightly."

Lin Tian's eyes flickered.

"Why?"

"Because it has no end."

The words hung in the air.

"No structure. No foundation. No guarantee of progress " Gu Chen said. "Every step is uncertain. Every breakthrough is unstable. You could advance.... Collapse completely."

Lin Tian's Chaos Qi stirred faintly.

"You've already begun walking it " Gu Chen added. "That much is clear."

His tone shifted. Serious more direct.

". This door... Will deepen it."

Lin Tian stepped closer to the three doors.

The air grew heavier the pressure of their presence pressing against him from all sides.

"If I choose one " he said, "I can't go back."

"No."

"If I refuse all three?"

Gu Chen exhaled quietly.

"Then the ruins will reject you."

Lin Tian nodded faintly.

As expected.

He studied the doors again.

Order stood firm unchanging.

Destruction pulsed, volatile and dangerous.

Chaos... Shifted.

Always shifting.

Lin Tian closed his eyes briefly.

His Chaos Qi circulated within him smooth and controlled. But never perfectly stable. Small fluctuations, imperfections constant adaptation.

Everything he had learned far -

The forest.

The ruins.

The echoes.

The fractured mind.

All of it pointed to one thing.

Not control.

Not power.

Understanding through change.

He opened his eyes.

"There's something you're not saying " he said.

Gu Chen went quiet.

Then -

"...These ruins " he said slowly "they don't belong to any known sect."

Lin Tian's gaze sharpened.

"They're older than anything recorded in our region.. The energy here... It's not just ancient."

"It's... Unfamiliar."

Lin Tian waited.

"I've seen fragments like this before " Gu Chen continued. "Long ago. Ruins tied to cultivators who didn't follow the established paths."

"Cultivators who rejected Order... But didn't fall into Destruction."

Lin Tian's voice was calm.

"Chaos cultivators."

Gu Chen didn't deny it.

"Yes."

The word echoed softly.

"They were feared " Gu Chen said. "Not because they were evil.. Because they were unpredictable. Their power didn't follow rules others could understand."

"Some became legends."

"Others..." He paused.

"...disappeared."

Lin Tian looked at the Door of Chaos again.

The shifting patterns on its surface seemed to respond to his gaze.

"You think these ruins belonged to one of them " he said.

"I'm certain of it " Gu Chen replied.

Silence settled between them.

The weight of the choice pressed in.

Lin Tian stepped forward.

One step.

Then another.

He stopped directly before the three doors.

Close enough to feel their Qi

The Door of Order felt stable, grounding.

The Door of Destruction felt overwhelming, aggressive.

The Door of Chaos...

Felt like standing at the edge of something

Gu Chen spoke one time.

"If you enter that door... There may be no guidance left."

Lin Tian's lips curved faintly.

"There was never any to begin with."

Without hesitation -

He moved.

Not toward Order.

Not toward Destruction.

Toward Chaos.

As his hand reached out his Chaos Qi surged. Not wildly not rigidly,. In shifting controlled imperfection.

His palm touched the surface.

The door responded instantly.

Not opening.

Not resisting.

Changing.

The patterns across it accelerated, forming and dissolving at speeds. The Qi around it surged, then stilled, surged again. Mirroring his own flow.

For a moment it felt like standing before a living entity.

Then -

The door dissolved.

Just like before.

This time -

The darkness beyond was different.

Deeper.

Heavier.

Alive.

Lin Tian stepped forward without looking

Behind him the other two doors faded into nothing.

Gu Chen's voice followed, quieter, than ever.

"...Then walk it to the end."

Lin Tian didn't answer.

He simply moved forward.

Into Chaos.

The ruins... Responded.
