Chapter 34 - The First Tremor

The white space pulsed again, faintly at first, like the beating of a distant drum.

Lina felt it in her chest, in the depths of every borrowed life she carried. A subtle vibration that wasn't hers—but responded to her.

Noah stepped closer. "Lina… the shadows. They're moving differently now."

She nodded slowly, eyes fixed ahead. "…I can feel them too. Not threatening… yet. But aware."

Mira whispered, "…aware of what?"

"Of me," Lina said simply. "Of all of us. Of every fragment inside me. They're watching."

A sudden ripple shot through the space, sending the floating memories quivering. Faces twisted, blurred. Voices overlapping, some familiar, some alien. A chill ran down Lina's spine.

"…You're not afraid?" Noah asked, voice tight.

"I can't afford to be," she replied. But her fingers clenched reflexively. "…And yet… I feel it."

The light around her flickered, responding to the slightest fluctuation in her emotions. Every heartbeat, every tremor in her mind, shaped reality itself.

"Then we need a plan," Mira said, voice urgent. "Before whatever this is… decides to act."

Lina's gaze swept across the void, calm yet unreadable. "…We will. But first… I need to understand it fully."

She extended her hand, and the fractures of light deepened, branching outward. Shadows recoiled at the edges, hesitant. Something inside her… stirred. And something else—inside her, watching—stirred too.

"…This isn't going to stay contained forever," Noah muttered.

Lina's smile was faint, but certain. "Then we learn to wield it… before it wields us."
