The sun was starting to set.
Emitting a slight orange glow through the windows.
Walking through the school were three students.
"We need information."
Ren turned to look at the girl beside him.
"...Information?"
"Yes. Information!" she snapped. "You've been walking around smashing their skulls in like a stupid caveman, but we still don't know what they are or how they behave."
Has this girl never heard of zombies before?
Do they not have zombie movies or games in this world?
"They're trying to eat us, I think that's pretty clear. But what do you want to do?"
Saya ignored him, pointing down the hallway.
There were four zombies just hunched over.
"Don't kill one of them," she said. "We just need one stable to gather information."
Was she really trying to order him around?
He'll play along for now.
A grin spread across his face as he looked her way.
"Yes, ma'am," he said before looking at Kota. "Yo Kota, take one out for me using your nail gun."
Kota nodded.
Ren dashed towards the four zombies in an instant.
The closest zombie turned towards him, attracted to the noise.
Before he reached it, Kota's nail gun pierced its head.
Ren kept moving past it, moving closer to the other two closest to him.
A couple of steps away, he jumped.
A flying kick came crashing down on the closest one.
The impact of the kick sent it crashing into the other, making them both fall down.
Ren's metal water bottle came up, and with two quick swings.
They were done.
Both of their skulls turned to mush.
Saya, seeing what he just did, could only compare him to a caveman.
Ren walked up to the last zombie.
The one for information.
He quickly swung at its face, a sound of breaking bone echoed across the hall.
"What is that idiot doing?" Saya siad. "I told him to leave one alive!"
Ren quickly spun around the zombie and kicked its legs, dropping the zombie to its knees.
He grabbed it by the collar of its neck and dragged it towards the two.
They could clearly see the zombie now, he had dislocated its jaw.
Its jaw hung loosely wide open.
"Now it won't be able to chomp on us."
Saya looked at him for a second.
Maybe he wasn't as much of an idiot as she thought.
Kota was the first to speak.
"So what are we doing with it?"
"Did you not here me before, you fat idiot?" she said to him. "We're gathering information."
"Bring him in here."
Ren sat on top of its body, pinning it to the ground so it wouldn't move, while Saya was setting up for her experiment.
Once she was done, the zombie was put in a corner, behind a bunch of chairs and stacked desks, preventing it from moving.
Saya walked back and forth around it, while Ren and Kota stayed a bit back, letting her do her thing.
"Look at its eyes," she mummured
"Yeah, they're fucking gross." Ren said
Saya waved her hand in front of its face, the zombie not reacting at all.
Next to Ren, Kota accidentally hit a chair with his foot.
The zombie instantly lunged at the noise.
The room fell silent for a moment.
"They can't see," she whispered. "They're reacting to sound."
Ren raised a brow. "…So they're basically blind and angry."
She ignored the comment, already smiling in excitement.
"This changes everything," she said. "They can't see, and only react to sound-"
A loud bang cut off her rambling.
Faint echoes of screams and fighting echoed through the hallway.
Ren quickly glanced at the door.
He picked up his metal water bottle and ran straight to the door.
"Hey! Where are you going?" Saya demanded.
"There are people still fighting...still alive."
Kota nervously reloaded his nail gun. "You're not seriously thinking of going out there, are you?"
"…Yeah," he said, pushing the door wider. "I am."
He had been blessed by the gods to have a Leon Synchronisation system.
He was going to make sure that he became the Leon of this world.
The Goat.
Ren quickly rushed to the noise.
"W-Wait!" Saya shouted, scrambling after him. "You can't just run toward danger like an idiot!"
Kota grabbed his nail gun and hurried after her, nearly tripping over a chair as he rushed into the hallway.
"Ren, slow down!" he called weakly.
Ren's footsteps echoed through the hall.
Finally reaching the fighting, he spotted them.
Three girls and one guy.
Weapons swinging at the dead that surrounded them.
Saya and Kota finally caught up behind him, both breathing hard.
"Oh my god," Kota whispered. "They're surrounded…"
Ren rolled his shoulders once, tightening his grip on the metal bottle.
"Stay here, princess," he said without looking back. "Kota, cover me."
He moved before either of them could respond.
It was a disaster.
They thought it would be easier ever since they escaped the roof.
But now, after meeting with more survivors, it wasn't looking good.
They were surrounded.
Takashi swung his bat.
Smashing skulls left and right.
Looking to his left, he saw his childhood friend Rei swing her makeshift spear.
To his right, Saeko was protecting the school nurse, swinging her wooden katana in a beautiful arc.
The dead just kept coming, they were relentless.
Takashi's life started to flash before his eyes, this little moment of unfocus left him about to be torn apart by a zombie.
Before he got torn apart, metal made contact with skull.
The bottle slammed into its temple, dropping it instantly.
A loud bone cracking noise echoed throughout the fight.
The others froze for half a second, stunned by the sudden appearance of someone stupid enough to help them instead of running away.
In the back of the hallway where Ren first ran.
Saya stared in disbelief.
"…He really just ran into that," she muttered.
Kota swallowed nervously.
"…He didn't even think about it"
Ren stepped between the new group of survivors and the remaining zombies, stance steady, eyes sharp.
A stupid grin spread across his face.
"…You guys looked like you could use a hand."
