Chapter 5 - Escape

Inside the teacher faculty room.

Seven people sat.

The smell of blood took over the room.

"Oh my god, open a window or something." Saya ordered.

Ren looked at her with a blank stare.

This girl really loves ordering people around huh?

"As you wish, your majesty," Ren said in a sarcastic tone.

After opening the window, Ren glanced at the system in his mind.

[Points available, 43]

[Would you like to convert your points to percentage?]

"Yes," Ren said in his mind.

Congratulations:

Leon Synchronization: 11→13%

Only thirteen percent?

Maybe this is going to take longer than I thought to reach 100%

After saving this group of students from being surrounded by zombies.

To now, after clearing out the teachers faculty room that was filled with zombies.

I only managed to bring my percentage up by two.

Welp, it's no big deal.

I'll eventually get there.

Looking around the room, you could clearly see the two groups now merged into one.

Takashi glanced at each person.

He knew almost everyone there.

Rei was to his right.

To his left were Saeko and Shizuka Marikawa, the school nurse who he had just met a couple of minutes earlier.

Across from him was also a familiar face.

Saya Takagi, a friend, you could say.

Although she would always pester him, he was glad she was okay.

With her two boys standing at her sides.

One he was familiar with, if he remembered correctly, they were in the same class.

He had no idea who the other one was.

The one who saved them from being eaten.

"…umm excuse me, what's your name?"

Ren looked at the boy across from him.

Baseball in hand and surrounded by four beautiful women.

Goddamn, the girls in this world are just on another level.

"Ren Suzuki, third year"

Third year? No wonder he didn't know this guy.

He was a year older than him.

The loud voice of a newswoman came from the TV hanging on the side of the wall.

Saya had turned on the TV.

They watched in silence before the TV went static.

"So…this is happening around the entire world?" Rei said.

She clung to Takashi, looking for comfort.

"But they'll stop it right-"

"Are you stupid?" Saya quickly cut her off.

Ren didn't listen to the rest of the conversation.

He just leaned on the wall in the back, pretending like he was listening.

He did catch something about looking for their families, but he had no interest in that.

Only three words registered in his mind from the conversation the group had.

Bus, leave, and let's go.

At the final words of "Let's go."

Ren finally moved up, ready to go.

The group moved in formation.

Takashi is in front with Saeko, Rei, and Kota forming a triangle around Shizuka and Saya.

Ren protected their flank.

Making sure nothing would get them from the back.

The group swiftly made its way towards the school entrance.

Surprisingly, they made it to the stairwell leading down to their destination relatively easily.

There weren't many zombies around.

The group now stood at the top of the stairwell.

"Let me make something clear," Saeko said. "There's no need for any of us to engage in a fight."

"We should avoid a fight against those things at all costs unless absolutely necessary."

Ren cringed at those words.

How the hell was he supposed to show how badass he was now?

But still, he didn't complain, he had no idea of the layout of the school.

So for now, he would just play the role of the quiet guy in the back.

Until shit gets serious, then he'll step in.

A scream echoed from further below the stairs.

Another group of surviving students was being surrounded.

The group quickly moved as one.

Ren felt like they were The Avengers at that moment.

Quickly saving the day.

Kota shot two nails.

The two closest zombies to the group of survivors fell.

A girl was about to get chomped on when a wooden blade swung.

The wooden blade sent the zombie flying off the stairwell after making contact.

Saeko swung her wooden blade two more times, making contact with two more skulls.

Rei and Takashi quickly appeared behind her.

Both of them taking out one each.

Ren watched from the back of the remaining group that stayed back.

He was asked by Saeko to stay back and protect Saya and Shizuka.

Saeko had seen the way Ren fought when he saved them from being surrounded.

He fought calmly and calculated.

Every swing, step, and decision he made was calculated.

Saeko could see this from him.

So she decided it would be best if he stayed back and protected them.

Of course, Ren didn't think about any of that and just thought this was a wasted opportunity to get some easy points.

The rest of the group walked down to meet up.

Saya and Shizuka in front with Ren and Kota behind them like royal guards for the Queen.

Ren didn't hear much of the conversation Takashi had with the new group of survivors, but apparently, they were joining them in their escape.

With that, the group got larger.

Making their way even further down, they saw it.

The front doors of the school.

And further outside, the bus they were going to escape on.

Only one little problem.

There were fucking zombies everywhere.

Hiding a bit above, the group was contemplating their escape plan.

"…There's…too many," Kota muttered

"How are we…supposed to get through all of them?" Rei whispered

The group started to grow doubts in their minds.

Doubts about survival.

One loud voice with an attitude brought them back to reality.

"They only react to sound."

Everyone turned to the pink haired girl.

"From what I've gathered, they can't see at all, they're as blind as bats," she said. "They only react to sound."

Kota tried to back up Saya's words.

"She-She's right, they can't see anything."

Even though the words came from the self-proclaimed genius of the school.

Nobody was willing to take the risk.

"Then how about you go and prove it?" Takashi said.

Saya and Kota fell silent at those words.

Even though they both witnessed it with their own eyes, they weren't willing to risk their lives.

The group fell silent for a moment.

"I'll go."

Everyone turned to the back of the group.

Ren walked between all of them to the front.

"What? You can't be serious?" Rei said

Ren calmly walked downstairs toward the swarm of zombies.

A calm smile on his face.

"All of you guys are a bunch of pussys, none of you will go…so I'll do it."

Ren turned around, staring directly at Saya.

"Even though she has an attitude…I trust what she says."

Saya's cheeks flushed a faint pink at Rens words before turning her head away with a scoff.

"Hmph, obviously."

Nobody else said a word as he continued down.

It doesn't matter if she's wrong.

Even if things go bad I won't die.

I have my glorious king Leon on my side.

I have nothing to fear in this world.
