Previous cut:- That night they came together again and again. Yet there was no joy in their union, no trace of love. There was only force, violation, and the ruthless satisfaction of one-sided desire.
That night, during their union, Sarmistha spoke with a throat choked with pain, "Rupam, I am not your love? Why are you hurting me like this? I never wanted to have you this way."
Rupam snapped at her harshly, "Shut up! You have so much arrogance about your beauty, don't you? Today I'll end it all—just wait. Did I marry you for nothing? I married you only to enjoy your body!" With that, Rupam let out a savage, beastly laugh.
Sarmistha stared at him in stunned disbelief. It felt as if she no longer recognised this man. This was the same Rupam who had once cried because he couldn't have her, who had stayed awake all night. Where had that love gone? Where had that pull disappeared? Now all Sarmistha could think was that Rupam had married her solely to possess her body. Everything before had been nothing but an act.
The brutal assault on Sarmistha continued until the middle of the night. Finally, exhausted, Rupam fell into a deep sleep. At first Sarmistha couldn't even move. Somehow she dragged her battered and bruised body to the bathroom. When she looked at herself in the mirror, she recoiled in horror. What had become of her? Cuts everywhere, deep bite marks from his teeth. It looked as if someone had torn and devoured her flesh. Her lower abdomen throbbed with unbearable pain; she could barely stand straight. Somehow she cleaned herself and returned to the room. Rupam was still sleeping soundly—the sleep of complete satisfaction.
The next morning, when Sarmistha woke up, Rupam was no longer beside her. She went outside and saw him coming out of the bathroom after his bath. Seeing her, he said casually, "Good morning."
Sarmistha replied in a dry voice, "Hmm, good morning."
Rupam said, "Can you quickly prepare my food? I have to go to the office." With that, he went back inside the room.
Sarmistha stood there, stunned. He hadn't asked even once, "Are you okay?" or "Did you suffer a lot last night?" It was as if Rupam had completely changed overnight.
That day Sarmistha could not go to college. After preparing Rupam's food, she came back to the room and lay down. Her lower abdomen was still in severe pain. Every time she went to the toilet, blood came out. She had realised the previous night that this was the consequence of losing her virginity.
A little later, her father called on her phone.
As soon as she picked up, her father said, "Hey dear, what are you doing?"
Sarmistha replied, "Nothing, Dad. I'm just lying down."
Father asked, "Why are you lying down? Didn't you go to college?"
Sarmistha said, "No, I'm not feeling well."
Father asked, "Not feeling well? What happened?"
Sarmistha said, "Nothing serious. Leave that. Tell me, what are you doing?"
Father said, "I just came back from the market. Now I'll start cooking."
Sarmistha said, "Oh."
Father asked, "Are you really okay? Is Rupam taking care of you?"
Answering that question made Sarmistha's throat tighten. The memory of the previous night flashed before her eyes. Still, she managed to say, "Yes, he is."
Father said, "That's good. He's a genuinely nice boy. You'll see—he will keep you happy."
Sarmistha thought to herself how deeply mistaken her father was. She simply said, "Okay, Dad. I'll hang up now. I have to go for cook."
Father said, "Alright. Take care"
