Faelyn ground the herbs between two flat stones, the sharp, earthy scent filling the dwelling. Roshan watched with the intensity of someone witnessing actual magic.
"Like this," she demonstrated, using circular motions to crush the leaves into a rough paste. "You want to break down the plant fibers to release the oils."
"Oils?" Roshan's ears twitched. "Plants have oils?"
"Everything has oils. Well, fats. Different things, but—" She paused. "Just trust me. This makes food taste better."
Roshan's mind: ฅᨐฅ'Food has taste beyond just meat? Plants have secret oils? How much don't I know about eating?'ฅᨐฅ
She handed him a stone and a pile of herbs. "Your turn. Try it."
He took the stone carefully, positioned the herbs, and pressed down.
The stone cracked in half.
