Chapter 16 - re-uploaded in the correct order

A/N: this is what I uploaded first by accident, should be the right order… maybe I should stop uploading chapters in the evening

Middle school was going by fine. The only person who properly talked to me was Yamamoto although the others did nod at me. The boys of my class have seemed to banded together.

It was weird because it felt like at every lunchtime they were doing coordinated movements. I always ended up in the corner watching everyone else.

I hadn't seen anyone from other classes due to my lack of attention to my surroundings and forgetfulness.

I'm pretty sure 3 other classes exist though.

A week after the first day this changed.

The boys that usually sat near me parted one lunchtime as 3 unknown boys walked through.

One was sauntering around and they are the one who said. "Eh?! Are you really the one who beat your entire class in arm wrestling?"

He sat opposite me and tilted his head. "You look weak though."

He then pulled out his hand. "Let's go." He said gravely. "I'm the top of class 1-2."

He ended up on the floor. It took 2 seconds.

The other two followed him to the ground as they introduced themselves as the winners of their own first year class.

After that nothing really changed for me. In PE however, I was always first pick and ended most exercises in first place if I didn't get distracted by my surroundings. I deliberately held back so if I did win it would only be by a little bit.

My outings with Aizawa have been fruitful. His battles are very entertaining and he shows great battle prowess. He's truly a master of his own craft.

Even when I was analysing his moves I couldn't seem to find any holes. However, me and Aizawa would make a great team if we could link up. I asked him about this and he replied. "Could be an idea. We aren't going to try it out without testing first."

Speaking of testing, I found out that I could make my connected portals physically show where they would send you out with some concentration rather than the old glimmer. If Aizawa activates his quirk and looks through it, his quirk activates on whoever is on the other side.

Something I did notice was that Nemuri was suspiciously at UA very early in the morning. I asked her about it and she just winked at me. It was very annoying. So I hid for the rest of the day. That started on Wednesday however and now it's Friday so tomorrow is my day with Aizawa.

But before that I'm going to talk with Present Mic.

"Yo!" He strutted over to me. "Want to watch me record my radio show?"

"Sure."

His radio show is very informative and he has some pro heroes come on so it's cool to listen to. I've been to three of his recordings before and I enjoy myself. I'm not going on it though, that would be too much.

'How did this happen…'

Present Mic had sat me down in front of a huge microphone put headphones on me and said. "We're recording in five."

"Five minutes?"

"Two seconds."

"Hello there my listeners!!! Today we are going to have a little segment with my nephew over here! His name is Takaba. Wow!"

"You tricked me."

"Heh don't be like that my little nephew… let's talk about how you want to be a hero and what advice you might give to young listeners at home."

"You have told them I'm only twelve years old right?"

"Hmm no, but your maturity and advice will probably be better than mine. Go ahead!"

"Well I guess something most kids don't realise is that quirks aren't everything. A decent body is very valuable."

"And what do you mean by that?"

"If you come across someone with a quirk, there's no saying that you can't just use physical prowess to take them down, you know? If you can pair that with some kind of martial arts or even break dancing you can take someone down. Obviously that's not entirely enough to be as powerful as a pro hero which is why there is not many heroes without quirks."

"True, and since you can't use your quirks without a licence working out and learning martial arts is a good way to train! Well that's all from Takaba here so let's get onto the main show."

I had already left when I heard the word 'true'.

Outside the booth I was at the entrance of UA when I was grabbed from behind.

"Hehehe."

"Well done, I'm immune to jump scares. Happy?"

Once I was let go I turned around to see Nemuri.

"How come you are here so late?"

"I moved in."

My eyes widened in shock.

"Where?"

"New room, you know the training room next to your bedroom? It's mine now." She bent down at an angle to be head height with me.

"For a second I thought you were gonna be in my room." I said, wiping my forehead.

"I might from time to time." She grinned and squeezed my cheeks. "You're like my personal plushie now."

"Tsk. Whatever." I turned away to start walking before I was lifted up.

"Up ya go!" Nemuri lifted me onto her shoulders.

Used to it, I deflated on her head.

"If only you were born a girl…"

"What was that?" I said drowsily.

She didn't answer me.

I teleported us to Nezu's office where she lay me down on the couch.

'Where's the blanket?'

"So cold…" I muttered.

"I'll warm you up!" Midnight jumped onto the couch before curling up and dragging me into her embrace.

"You hid the blanket didn't you." I closed my eyes.

"How perceptive." She said shamelessly.

I woke up the next morning to Aizawa's voice. "Nemuri let the kid go. I've got work to do."

I was let go.

—3 months later—

Nothing had changed. Apparently Present Mic thought I had done well on the radio show, I didn't. I only said 'work out' so I dismissed it. Next week I'm going to start dual training with Aizawa. We are going to team up since a teleporting Aizawa would be every villain's nightmare.

I realised something though. This whole time I wasn't sure what kind of hero I wanted to be. Now I know for sure.

I want to be a supporter hero. I want to save lives rather than go head to head with villains. Basically a side kick, but a priceless one. I can immediately get people to safety and my quirk allows for me to assist a hero mid battle by taking them out of danger or ruining a villain's momentum with a quick teleport.

That won't mean that I will not be beating up villains, but I want hero's to be able to fight without holding back as I get everyone to safety. After all I don't have a hard hitting quirk and I'm not going to mess up thinking I do have one.

That's my hero philosophy.

Middle school changed a little bit. I have still had no interactions with anyone other than Yamamoto. The boys do come to me for answers because I am at the top of the class for tests.

I've seen a couple girls looking at me in a scary way. Kind of like how someone looks at a puppy. Creeps me out.

I recently started to learn break dancing due to Midnight. She heard me talk about it on the podcast and now was pushing for me to learn it. I don't mind since it helps with flexibility. I think she wants me to dance for her but I refuse to do so. She can watch me train at most.

A bit ago she tried to get me to go to a concert. I refused since I don't like loud things and crowds.

Life is rinse and repeat. The most constant thing in my life is Midnight grabbing me. It's somehow happening more often than I get to train unfortunately. In other words my quirk is not upgrading as fast as it used to be and I spend most of my time thinking of gadgets and blueprints.

Life is pretty good.

A/N: chapter 19 should be the entrance to UA, just a guess though
