Chapter 34 - UPHOLSTERY

Mason opened the heavy wooden door of the estate, and we stepped out into the cool evening air. Leon waited next to the luxury vehicle with the rear door open. I climbed into the back seat, taking care to keep the heavy dark silk of my dress smooth against the leather upholstery. Mason slid in beside me, and Leon steered the car down the long driveway toward the main gates.

The drive into the downtown district took almost forty minutes, which gave me plenty of time to focus my breathing. We drove past the tall glass office buildings and merged onto the busy avenue leading to the Grand Hotel. I looked at the passing streetlights and mentally reviewed the names of the board members we had discussed in his study.
