Chapter 3 - Adaptation System!

Jason couldn't believe his luck; he woke up in a place where all he could see were monsters.

He wanted to scream, but couldn't due to the gag in his mouth.

These creatures were huge, muscular, and gigantic. These were ogres!

Jason tried to wriggle his way out of his binds but noticed it was knotted a little too tightly because the ropes had burrowed into his flesh, sitting right between his ribcage.

This not only showed the force with which they used to tie him, but also their unparalleled physical strength.

They had a fire on, and he could see the bones of other animals around. Jason knew without a doubt that these things planned to eat him.

He looked to his left and right. There was nothing he could use, and even if there was something, what could he do against these things?

"Wait a minute, I have a joke for this," Jason thought to himself, trying his best to distract himself from his grim reality.

There was a stick over the fire, and one orc got up to his feet, walking towards Jason.

Each footstep made the earth vibrate. Jason could tell how close he was without even looking, as he had his eyes closed.

"What do you call a dead man walking? The walking dead," Jason said.

"Damn, maybe I'm not funny after all," Jason thought to himself before his body was dissolved in hot water. They dumped his body whole into scorching hot water.

The way his skin melted off his bones, and Jason screamed in agony, the pain was overwhelming.

The ogres took Jason as any other animal made to be consumed; he wandered into their territory as well.

If even wild beasts knew not to, then there was no doubt it was a universal language in that particular region.

Jason was ready to die, but there was something that happened the moment the boiling water began to erode his skin.

[Ding!]

[System binding in progress…]

[System successfully bound!]

[Adaption System successfully activated!]

[Adaptation System! The host must not die until the timer runs out!]

[Duration: 10 minutes!]

[Each adaptation begins after 2 minutes!]

Jason was fighting through the pain to see the cyan screen; he couldn't digest the information as the pain rang through his skin.

Jason was scared, his skin was shrivelling, and he was on the verge of passing out. This was the worst pain he had ever experienced.

After two minutes, something miraculous happened: the pain reduced drastically.

[Ding!]

[2 minutes elapsed!]

[Adaptation to boiling hot water: 20%!]

Jason could finally read, but the water wasn't as hot despite his skin already sticking to the pot edges, and he realised if he stayed here longer, there was a chance he could become immune to this. Jason had survived the worst, and with the damage reduced, there was not much the hot water could do.

[Ding!]

[4 minutes elapsed!]

[Adaptation to boiling hot water: 40%!]

Jason could breathe easier now; his lung capacity had managed to adapt to the harsh conditions of this place, but the damage had been reduced even more.

Jason's body was messed up beyond repair. Even if he did manage to survive this, there would be no way to return to how he was prior.

He might as well be dead, but Jason thought about Deadpool for a second. He was about to assume his identity with the way he looked right now.

[Ding!]

[10 minutes elapsed!]

[Adaptation to boiling hot water: 100%!]

[Adaptation: Complete!]

[Congratulations, you are immune to boiling hot water!]

"T-These bastards!" Jason muttered under his breath, but he wasted no time; he pushed the pot cover open despite his nerves being all but damaged.

The ogres looked visibly surprised by this, but they didn't think much of it due to his state.

They simply assumed they needed to boil him a little longer, so the orc that had put him in the pot walked to grab him.

Jason could instantly tell these things weren't smart, just brainless, barbaric creatures; his skin was falling off his bones already, but Jason looked at his body in shock.

"Huh?" Jason thought to himself, a second ago, his body was flawless; he had no injuries.

This must be why the ogres looked at him the way they did.

"Holy shit! I might really be Deadpool!" Jason muttered under his breath, but he knew this must be because he had fully adapted to it.

"That explains why I was able to leave the pot!" Jason exclaimed. The orc that approached him tried to grab him, but Jason didn't need to be told what to do.

He ran for his life, but the ogres weren't going to let their prey get away, not by any means, as they chased him down with wooden clubs and spears.

Jason didn't look back but he noticed the hunger he felt before was gone, he not longer felt it or tired which meant the adaptation had returned his body to its prime state.

He wasn't muscular, he was slender which was why he was able to run as fast as he could but the ogres may be stupid but they were trained hunters.

A spear missed him by an inch, and Jason wondered how the hell he could adapt to this if it split open his skull or he bled out in minutes.

He wasn't about to gamble with his life, he managed to exit the forest but the ogres didn't stop; they continued to chase him.

There was a stiff cliff at the end of it with a body of water on the ground, but there was something off about this water.

He could feel the steam rising from it; this heat was unnatural, and it would do serious damage if he jumped in.

The ogres cornered him, he knew they didn't want to kill him if they didn't have to otherwise they wouldn't have tried to boil him alive if this was a better option.

"Oh, wait! That's right! I'm immune! Haahaha!" Jason laughed his lungs out before showing them the middle finger and jumping into the water.

As he fell, Jason noticed the ogres didn't follow, just like he suspected, and his body fell right into the water with an aggressive thump.
