Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Decision Point

Ayaan didn't leave her alone.

---

Not after that.

---

It wasn't hesitation.

It wasn't uncertainty.

---

It was calculation.

---

If someone was watching her—

Then distance was a mistake.

---

---

They walked together.

---

Not close.

Not far.

---

Side by side.

---

A new position.

---

Meera didn't comment on it.

---

But she noticed.

Of course she did.

---

"You're changing your pattern again," she said.

---

"I'm correcting it," Ayaan replied.

---

A small pause.

---

"Because of me?" she asked.

---

"No."

---

A beat.

---

"Because of them."

---

---

Meera's lips curved slightly.

---

"Liar."

---

---

Ayaan didn't respond.

---

---

They reached the campus gate.

---

Students passed by.

Cars moved beyond the road.

Everything looked normal.

---

---

But normal didn't mean safe.

---

---

"Where do you live?" Ayaan asked.

---

---

Meera glanced at him.

---

Brief.

---

"You've followed me before."

---

---

Not a question.

---

---

Ayaan didn't deny it.

---

---

"I want to confirm," he said.

---

---

Silence.

---

Then—

---

Meera spoke.

---

"Five minutes from here."

---

---

Too vague.

---

---

"Direction," Ayaan said.

---

---

Meera stopped walking.

---

---

Turned to face him.

---

---

"You're not asking," she said quietly.

---

---

"You're deciding."

---

---

Ayaan held her gaze.

---

---

"Yes."

---

---

---

A moment passed.

---

---

Then—

---

Instead of resisting—

---

Meera stepped closer.

---

---

Closing the distance.

---

---

"Then walk me home," she said.

---

---

---

No hesitation.

No tension.

---

---

Acceptance.

---

---

---

The streets grew quieter as they moved away from campus.

---

Fewer people.

Longer shadows.

---

---

Ayaan's attention never settled in one place.

---

Every reflection.

Every passing figure.

Every shift in movement.

---

---

Nothing obvious.

---

---

Which made it worse.

---

---

"They're careful," he said.

---

---

"Yes."

---

---

"You didn't see them."

---

---

"No."

---

---

"Then how do you know they were there?"

---

---

Meera didn't answer immediately.

---

---

Instead—

She slowed down.

---

Just slightly.

---

---

Then said—

---

"Because I felt it."

---

---

Ayaan's gaze flickered toward her.

---

---

"That's not reliable."

---

---

"It is when it's consistent."

---

---

A pause.

---

---

"You feel things too," she added.

---

---

Ayaan didn't respond.

---

---

Because she wasn't wrong.

---

---

He just didn't define it that way.

---

---

They turned into a narrower street.

---

Quieter.

---

Almost empty.

---

---

Wrong.

---

---

Ayaan felt it instantly.

---

---

Not a thought.

---

A reaction.

---

---

His pace slowed.

---

---

"Stop," he said.

---

---

Meera didn't question it.

---

---

She stopped.

---

---

Silence.

---

---

Ayaan scanned the area.

---

---

Left—empty.

Right—parked cars.

---

Ahead—

---

Nothing.

---

---

But—

---

---

There.

---

---

A reflection.

---

---

Car window.

---

---

Movement.

---

---

Someone—

---

Standing just out of direct sight.

---

---

Watching.

---

---

Ayaan's expression didn't change.

---

---

But his body shifted slightly.

---

Subtle.

---

Positioning.

---

---

Between her—

---

And the reflection.

---

---

"You see it," Meera said quietly.

---

---

"Yes."

---

---

No hesitation.

---

---

This time—

---

It wasn't uncertain.

---

---

It wasn't instinct.

---

---

It was confirmed.

---

---

---

The figure moved.

---

---

Just slightly.

---

---

Enough.

---

---

Ayaan stepped forward.

---

---

Not fast.

---

Not aggressive.

---

---

But direct.

---

---

The movement was immediate.

---

---

The figure turned.

---

---

And walked away.

---

---

Too quickly.

---

---

Avoidance.

---

---

---

Ayaan stopped.

---

Didn't chase.

---

---

No need.

---

---

He had seen enough.

---

---

Height.

Build.

Movement pattern.

---

---

Not random.

---

---

Deliberate.

---

---

---

He turned back.

---

---

Meera was watching him.

---

---

Carefully.

---

---

"You were going to follow," she said.

---

---

Ayaan didn't answer.

---

---

Because it was true.

---

---

"You didn't," she added.

---

---

"I will," he said.

---

---

Not now.

---

---

Later.

---

---

---

Silence settled again.

---

---

He looked at her.

---

---

Really looked.

---

---

"You're not safe," he said.

---

---

Direct.

---

Unfiltered.

---

---

Meera didn't look surprised.

---

---

"I know."

---

---

---

Ayaan stepped closer.

---

---

Closer than ever before.

---

---

No distance left.

---

---

"You'll stay somewhere else tonight," he said.

---

---

---

There it was.

---

---

Not a suggestion.

---

---

A decision.

---

---

---

Meera's eyes held his.

---

---

Searching.

---

Not resisting.

---

---

"You've already decided where," she said softly.

---

---

Ayaan didn't hesitate.

---

---

"Yes."

---

---

---

A pause.

---

---

Then—

---

Meera smiled.

---

---

Not uncertain.

---

Not hesitant.

---

---

Certain.

---

---

"Okay."

---

---

---

No argument.

---

No fear.

---

---

Just—

---

Acceptance.

---

---

---

And in that moment—

---

Something crossed a line.

---

---

Not physically.

---

---

But logically.

---

---

Because this—

---

Was no longer observation.

---

---

No longer interaction.

---

---

---

This was control.

---

---

And she had allowed it.

---

---

---

Which meant—

---

---

Whatever happened next—

---

---

Wouldn't be one-sided.
