The gates closed behind them as the car kept moving.
Elena watched through the window as the driveway stretched on ahead of them, lined on both sides with tall trees that formed a canopy overhead, their branches meeting in the middle creating a tunnel of green and gold that the afternoon light pushed through in long lazy streaks.
It was stunning. The kind of beautiful that felt almost utterly unreal, like something from a novel or movie. It felt like old money, and she pressed closer to the glass just looking at it.
