Chapter 8 - Breakfast

'To think that I would become the sole heir of the Servant family.'

It was quite the irony that Leonard became the heir of the family that exiled his family and caused his life to be miserable. But then again, the reason the Servant family was in such a horrible situation was because of his own family's past.

Leonard didn't really carry much hatred for the Servant family. Perhaps it was because he now possessed Caesar's memories, but he even sympathized with them. After all, from Caesar's point of view, his immediate family hadn't done anything wrong; he belonged to the main branch, which seemed unaware of the treason being committed by the sub-branch.

Once the sub-branch was exiled, his family's doom collapsed upon them. The breaking point was when his sister, who was a Rank Three in the Servant Class, decided to take on the name of another family, abandoning the Servant family name: Valerion.

Caesar could use Qi but didn't have a Class. Raising his family's status was close to impossible. Only two in five hundred can have a Class; as for Qi, as long as you had Royal blood, you could use it.

Caesar had previously used Qi just to light a candle. With all these factors combined, Caesar had to resort to cheap tactics to keep himself and his family hanging on—such as his affair with the Pope's daughter, Lady Ariana, or the secret research his fiancée was conducting.

Leonard, despite being thrust into the middle of Caesar's messy affairs, had only one goal for now: raise his strength.

'The Witch said a strange town might appear and I'll have to go there to obtain a strange book.'

Leonard, although he didn't want to, agreed to the Witch's request. It wasn't like he had an option; if he said no, who knows what the Witch might do? After all, he was using her body.

'For now, I should try to continue with Caesar's plans while raising my strength.'

With this thought, he rose from the chair.

'I should get a book on the Witches.'

Leonard knew information regarding Qi and Classes because of Caesar, but he didn't know much about the Witches; Caesar hadn't been that interested in them.

'Guess it's time to study.'

Leonard wasn't in a rush to roam around. Only with sufficient information would he feel safe.

Tap, tap, tap, tap.

While reading, Leonard heard light footsteps echoing in his mansion.

'It seems like the servants are back.'

Leonard stretched his arms, letting out a loud yawn. He wasn't the happiest when it came to reading books; even Caesar didn't like reading and only did it out of necessity. Leonard reached into his pocket and took out his gold pocket watch.

'Mmm... should I head out to see the surroundings better?'

Although he had Caesar's memories and knew the area quite well, he still wanted to walk around—perhaps as a way to satisfy himself. After all, he had grown up in a place comparable to Hell; now he was in the place called Heaven.

As he was standing up, he heard a strange sound.

Growl...

His stomach let out an audible growl.

"I guess I'm hungry," Leonard muttered while patting his stomach.

In his previous body, he could go long periods of time without eating; this body, however, wasn't that forgiving. Leonard touched his smooth face and then pinched his skin.

'I'm really not dreaming.'

Once he had this thought, his eyes watered up.

"Even if I'm dreaming, I hope such a dream lasts."

Leonard soon made his way to the dining hall. While walking, he saw two women in maid outfits walking in his direction.

"Good morning, my Lord."

"Good morning, my Lord."

They both said it in unison. Leonard just gave them a nod and carried on with his walk. He soon arrived at the dining hall. There, at the large table, he saw two people seated: Ariana and Melissa. They both seemed to be waiting for breakfast.

Once Ariana saw him, she moved slightly, her face turning a soft red. Melissa didn't have much of a reaction. Leonard walked up to the table and took a seat facing Melissa. He looked at Ariana and spoke.

"Lady Ariana, how has your morning been?"

"Thank you for your concern. It's been excellent, my Lord," she replied. Her voice was soft.

"My Lord, how have your studies been?" Ariana asked.

"They've been going well. And thank you for your help—you've helped me more than you can imagine," Leonard said.

"I'm glad to help," Ariana replied.

A maid walked up to Leonard and spoke politely with a short bow.

"My Lord, what would you like to eat?"

"I'll have what I usually eat," Leonard replied.

"Alright then, I shall take my leave." With that said, the maid left.

"Darling, Lady Ariana... did any of you by chance hear of Lady Morgana taking down a corrupted creature in the slums?" Leonard asked. Once he asked the question, his eyes shone with a dark light.

"Oh my, there was such a case?" Ariana blurted out, placing her white-gloved hand over her mouth.

"Yes, at least that's what I heard. I'm not really sure if it's true," Leonard said with a faint smile.

"Yes, I heard of that matter," Melissa said, keeping her voice aloof.

"Really? Such a scene really happened?" Ariana asked, looking at Melissa.

"Yes. I heard that she encountered the creature after she sensed a change of Qi in the area two days ago," Melissa said.

'Two days?'

"For it to cause such a disturbance, what rank was the creature?" Leonard asked.

"It showed the characteristics of a Rank Two heading towards Three. It was revealed that the creature was a boy by the name of Leonard, who belonged to a sub-branch of this family."
