Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1: A New Beginning

The cold morning air of Seoul brushed softly against Ahn Soo Bin's cheeks as she stood in front of the large police station near Seoul Station.

Her hands tightened around the strap of her bag.

"Okay… this is it," she whispered to herself.

Final year internship.

One step closer to her dream.

She had imagined this moment so many times—walking into a real police station, meeting real officers, doing real work.

But now that she was actually here…

"I might throw up," she muttered.

Taking a deep breath, she stepped inside.

The station was already alive with movement.

Phones ringing.

Officers walking quickly.

Voices overlapping.

Soo Bin stood awkwardly near the entrance, unsure of where to go.

"Excuse me—are you the intern?"

Soo Bin turned quickly.

A female officer stood in front of her, smiling slightly.

"Yes! Ahn Soo Bin, final-year student."

"Follow me."

Soo Bin nodded quickly and walked behind her, trying not to look too nervous.

As they passed through the hallway, Soo Bin noticed something strange.

People were whispering.

Glancing.

Looking toward one direction.

"…She's here already?"

"Of course. Lieutenant Kim is always early."

"She's seriously unreal…"

Soo Bin blinked.

Lieutenant Kim?

Then she saw her.

Time seemed to slow.

A tall woman stood near one of the desks, flipping through a file. Her posture was straight, her expression calm and unreadable.

Her long dark hair was tied neatly, and her uniform fit her perfectly.

But what stood out the most…

Was her face.

Beautiful.

Not just pretty—but the kind of beauty that made people stare without realizing.

"Lieutenant Kim So Hee," the officer beside Soo Bin said quietly.

Soo Bin felt her heart skip.

Kim So Hee.

As if sensing something, So Hee looked up.

Their eyes met.

For a brief second…

Everything went silent.

Soo Bin forgot how to breathe.

"…The intern?" So Hee asked calmly.

Her voice was low. Controlled.

"Yes!" Soo Bin answered too quickly, bowing slightly. "Ahn Soo Bin!"

So Hee studied her for a moment.

Not harshly.

Just… carefully.

"Stay focused," So Hee said. "This isn't school."

Soo Bin nodded immediately.

"Yes, ma'am!"

So Hee turned away, already back to work.

Just like that.

Cold. Professional.

Untouchable.

But Soo Bin stood there, frozen.

Her heart was beating too fast.

"…What was that?" she whispered under her breath.

She had just met her.

Just one look.

And yet…

Something felt different.

Something she couldn't explain.

She glanced at So Hee again, who was now talking to another officer like nothing had happened.

Soo Bin placed a hand on her chest.

"…I'm in trouble."
