The closer they moved toward the kingdom, the stranger the world began to feel.
At first the change was subtle enough that nobody mentioned it aloud.
The forests became quieter.
The roads grew older.
Even the wind itself carried something heavier within it, as though the land ahead remembered histories the rest of the world had forgotten long ago.
But by the third day after leaving the mountain, everyone in the group felt it clearly.
Something was waiting beyond the horizon.
The crimson light guiding Vijaya's fragments no longer appeared faint and distant now. It burned visibly across the evening sky every night like a second sunset resting somewhere far ahead of them. The weapon reacted constantly whenever Arin looked toward it, golden pulses moving through the partially restored bow-staff beneath the cloth wrapped around it.
And every time the fragments reacted—
so did his memories.
Not full visions this time.
Only flashes.
Ancient walls.
Golden banners moving beneath storm-filled skies.
A throne standing empty inside a hall of black stone.
None of it belonged to Karna's memories.
That disturbed him more than he admitted aloud.
Because the closer they moved toward the kingdom, the clearer one terrifying realization became:
This place existed separately from the cycle surrounding him.
Older somehow.
Like it had been waiting long before Karna, Aditya, or Arin were ever born.
The group traveled mostly in silence that evening while the road curved through enormous hills covered in dense green forests. Sunlight faded slowly behind distant mountains while long shadows stretched across the old stone path beneath their feet.
Riven eventually looked around uneasily before speaking.
"…alright."
Everyone glanced toward him.
"Does this place feel creepy to anyone else or is it just me?"
"It's not just you," Selene answered immediately.
Kael nodded quietly afterward.
"The atmosphere changed hours ago."
Aira crossed her arms slightly while staring toward the distant horizon.
"It feels like the closer we get, the more the world itself is watching us."
That statement unsettled everyone more than they admitted.
Because somehow it felt accurate.
Even Liora stayed unusually quiet while walking beside Arin now. Her gaze occasionally drifted toward the crimson light ahead, though every time she looked at it for too long, unease flickered briefly across her expression.
Arin noticed immediately.
"…you feel it too."
She glanced toward him quietly before nodding once.
"It doesn't feel hostile."
Another pause.
"But it doesn't feel normal either."
The wind shifted softly through the hills around them while silence settled again afterward.
Arin understood exactly what she meant.
The kingdom ahead didn't feel dangerous in the ordinary sense.
It felt ancient.
Like approaching something sacred that had existed untouched for centuries.
And deep inside himself, the fragments of Vijaya continued resonating stronger with every passing hour.
Eventually the road curved upward along a steep hill overlooking the valley ahead.
And the moment the group reached the top—
everyone stopped walking.
The kingdom finally revealed itself.
Massive black walls stretched across the valley below, built directly into towering cliffs surrounding the land like a fortress carved from the mountains themselves. Ancient stone towers rose high above the walls while crimson banners moved slowly in the evening wind from every battlement visible across the kingdom's outer defenses.
Rivers cut through the valley surrounding the city while enormous bridges connected different sections of the kingdom together above the flowing water below. Countless lights illuminated the streets already despite the fading sunlight, making the entire city resemble a sea of stars trapped beneath dark stone.
And above everything else—
at the very center of the kingdom—
stood a colossal structure towering over the rest of the city.
Not a palace.
Not exactly.
The building resembled an enormous temple forged from black and crimson stone, surrounded by massive pillars reaching high into the sky while golden symbols glowed faintly across its surface.
The moment Arin saw it—
Vijaya reacted violently.
Golden energy surged through the wrapped fragments instantly.
Everyone stepped back in surprise while the weapon pulsed hard enough to illuminate the surrounding hilltop in faint gold light.
Liora immediately looked toward Arin.
"…it's there."
He nodded slowly.
Because he could feel it now too.
Another fragment rested somewhere inside that kingdom.
And unlike the previous ones—
this fragment felt awake.
Watching.
Riven stared toward the city below with visible disbelief afterward.
"…that's not a kingdom."
Nobody answered immediately.
Because none of them disagreed.
The place looked too large. Too old. Too impossible somehow.
Darin finally spoke quietly afterward.
"How has nobody ever heard about this place?"
Kael frowned slightly while studying the valley.
"Maybe they have."
Another pause.
"And the stories slowly became myths over time."
The idea unsettled everyone.
Because standing here overlooking the kingdom now, they could suddenly imagine entire civilizations forgetting this place existed after centuries passed.
The city didn't feel connected to the rest of the world naturally.
It felt hidden.
Preserved.
As though history itself intentionally left it untouched.
Arin remained silent while staring toward the enormous temple rising at the center of the kingdom.
Fragments stirred again inside his mind.
Not memories this time.
Instinct.
Recognition.
And beneath that recognition—
danger.
Liora noticed his expression change immediately.
"…what is it?"
Arin answered slowly.
"I think…"
His gaze remained fixed toward the distant temple.
"…someone there already knows we're coming."
The words settled heavily across the hilltop afterward.
The group exchanged uneasy glances while evening darkness slowly deepened around the valley below.
Then suddenly—
a bell rang across the kingdom.
Deep. Ancient. Heavy enough that the sound echoed through the mountains surrounding the valley itself.
Once.
Twice.
Three times.
The atmosphere changed instantly afterward.
The lights across the kingdom brightened slightly while movement erupted visibly along the walls and towers below. Guards carrying long crimson spears suddenly appeared along the battlements while enormous gates near the city entrance slowly began opening inward.
Everyone froze.
Because they were far too distant for anyone below to have seen them clearly.
And yet—
the gates had opened the exact moment Vijaya reacted.
Riven stared toward the valley in horror.
"…tell me that's a coincidence."
Nobody answered him.
Because deep down—
none of them believed that anymore.
The wind moved colder across the hilltop afterward while Arin felt the fragments of Vijaya pulse once more against his side.
Then quietly—
inside his mind alone—
a voice whispered for the first time since leaving the mountain.
You finally arrived.
Arin's eyes widened slightly.
Not because the voice sounded unfamiliar.
Because somehow—
he recognized it immediately.
