The deeper they moved into the kingdom, the more Arin understood one thing clearly—
this place did not function like the outside world.
It wasn't merely older.
It felt untouched by time itself.
The streets surrounding them remained alive with movement and conversation, yet none of it carried the chaos common to ordinary cities. No shouting merchants fought for attention. No drunken voices echoed through the roads. Even the crowds themselves moved with strange discipline, as though every person within the kingdom understood invisible rules the group had never learned.
And through all of it—
the staring never stopped.
Everywhere they walked, eyes followed Arin and the fragments of Vijaya resting beside him. Some people looked at him with awe. Others with fear. A few with something disturbingly close to grief.
Like they were looking at someone who had finally returned after being gone far too long.
The feeling unsettled him more with every passing minute.
Because none of these people knew him.
And yet somehow…
part of him felt like the kingdom itself did.
The road leading toward the enormous temple stretched upward through the center of the city in massive ascending levels connected by bridges of black stone. Rivers flowed beneath the bridges while golden lanterns reflected beautifully across the water below. Ancient statues lined the higher districts—towering warriors carved from dark marble, each holding different weapons pointed toward the sky.
Arin noticed immediately that one statue stood apart from the others.
Not because it was larger.
Because the weapon it carried resembled Vijaya.
The incomplete staff-bow at his side pulsed violently the moment he looked toward it.
Everyone noticed instantly.
Liora moved closer beside him.
"…another reaction."
Arin nodded slowly without taking his eyes off the statue.
Unlike the other monuments surrounding the district, this one had no face. The stone where the features should have existed remained smooth and untouched, almost intentionally erased. Yet despite that, the figure carried overwhelming presence.
And carved beneath it—
one line of ancient text glowed faintly across the pedestal below.
Arin stopped walking completely.
The others followed immediately afterward while the escorting guards remained silent several meters ahead.
"…what does it say?" Selene asked quietly.
Arin stared toward the symbols.
And somehow…
he understood them.
Not through memory.
Instinct.
His voice came quieter afterward.
"'The one who breaks the final dawn shall return when the weapon becomes whole again.'"
Silence followed instantly.
Riven looked deeply uncomfortable now.
"Can this kingdom stop speaking in prophecies for five minutes?"
Nobody answered him.
Because Arin's heartbeat had started quickening again.
The final dawn.
Something about those words disturbed him deeply despite not understanding why.
Fragments moved restlessly inside his mind afterward.
Flashes of fire.
A sky splitting apart.
A massive golden sun burning over ruins while screams echoed beneath endless light.
Aditya's final battle.
The artificial sun he created before dying.
Arin immediately looked away from the statue afterward while forcing the fragments back down before they surfaced further.
Liora noticed the change instantly.
"You remembered something."
"…not clearly."
But even while answering, unease lingered beneath his voice now.
Because the kingdom shouldn't know about Aditya.
That life happened far later than Karna's era. Far removed from these ancient places and forgotten prophecies.
And yet somehow the words still felt connected.
The escorting guards finally resumed moving again afterward, silently leading the group toward the towering temple above the city.
As they climbed higher through the kingdom levels, the atmosphere gradually changed again.
The lower districts carried life and movement despite their strange calmness. But the closer they moved toward the temple, the quieter everything became. The streets widened. Buildings grew more ancient. Fewer people walked these upper paths.
And those who did immediately stepped aside the moment they noticed Arin approaching.
Not out of fear.
Respect.
The realization unsettled him almost more than fear would have.
Eventually the road ended entirely before enormous black stairs leading upward toward the temple entrance itself.
The structure towered over them now with impossible scale. Massive pillars carved from obsidian stone surrounded the outer walls while crimson banners moved endlessly from the heights above. Golden symbols glowed faintly across every surface of the temple, pulsing softly like veins of light beneath dark stone.
And at the center of the stairs—
someone waited.
Not armored guards this time.
A single woman stood near the temple entrance dressed entirely in black and crimson robes that moved softly in the evening wind. Long silver hair fell behind her while golden markings glowed faintly across the exposed skin near her neck and hands.
The moment Arin saw her—
the voice from earlier returned instantly inside his mind.
You finally arrived.
His steps stopped immediately.
The woman slowly opened her eyes afterward.
Gold.
Not ordinary gold.
Bright enough they almost resembled burning sunlight beneath the fading evening sky.
And the moment her gaze met Arin's—
Vijaya reacted harder than ever before.
Golden energy exploded outward from the fragments beside him.
The guards around them immediately lowered themselves onto one knee.
Every single one.
The force of the reaction surged through the temple stairs while the woman simply watched silently without surprise.
Like she expected this exact moment.
Liora instinctively stepped closer beside Arin while the others remained frozen behind them.
The woman finally spoke.
"…so it truly chose you again."
Her voice matched perfectly.
The same voice from the hilltop.
The same voice from his fragmented memories.
Arin's eyes narrowed slightly.
"Who are you."
The woman studied him quietly for several long seconds before answering.
"…that depends."
Another pause.
"Are you asking as Arin?"
The atmosphere changed instantly afterward.
"Or as Karna."
Silence fell across the stairs.
Even the wind seemed quieter now.
Arin felt every muscle in his body tense slightly.
Because she didn't merely know about the cycle.
She spoke about it naturally.
Like someone discussing history already familiar to them.
The woman slowly descended several steps toward them afterward while the guards remained kneeling around the temple entrance.
"…my name is Elyra."
The golden markings along her hands glowed faintly brighter as she moved.
"I am the Regent of this kingdom."
Riven whispered quietly behind them afterward,
"She looks like she could erase us from existence by blinking."
Kael didn't even disagree.
Elyra's gaze shifted briefly toward the others before returning to Arin again.
"…you brought more people than expected."
Something about the sentence immediately bothered Liora.
"What does that mean?"
Elyra finally looked toward her directly afterward.
And for the first time since they arrived—
the Regent's expression changed slightly.
Not surprise.
Recognition.
"…so she returned too."
Liora felt cold instantly.
Arin stepped slightly forward afterward without thinking.
"What exactly do you know?"
Elyra remained silent briefly before answering softly,
"…far more than either of you are ready to hear."
The temple behind her suddenly felt even larger somehow.
Ancient.
Watching.
Arin stared toward the Regent carefully now while fragments continued stirring restlessly through his mind.
Because deep inside himself, something impossible had already become clear—
this wasn't their first meeting.
Not truly.
He just couldn't remember when they met before.
Elyra slowly turned afterward before beginning to ascend the temple stairs again.
"Come."
No explanation.
No hesitation.
Like she already knew they would follow.
And strangely enough—
Arin did.
The group exchanged uneasy glances afterward before slowly moving upward behind her toward the temple entrance.
The massive doors opened silently the moment they approached.
Warm light spilled outward from inside while the interior revealed itself beyond the entrance.
And immediately everyone stopped again.
The inside of the temple looked less like a religious structure and more like an ancient archive preserved across centuries. Endless towering shelves filled enormous halls stretching farther than seemed physically possible, packed with scrolls, weapons, stone tablets, and artifacts glowing faintly beneath golden light. Massive celestial maps covered entire walls while enormous circular mechanisms turned slowly near the ceiling overhead like parts of some ancient machine still functioning after thousands of years.
The air itself felt different inside.
Heavy with power.
And memory.
Aira quietly whispered afterward,
"…what is this place…"
Elyra answered without turning around.
"The Hall of Continuance."
The title alone carried weight none of them understood.
The Regent continued leading them deeper through the temple afterward while the enormous doors closed behind them silently.
Arin noticed something else immediately now that they were inside.
The symbols covering the walls matched the ones from his dreams.
Not all of them.
But enough.
Golden circular patterns intertwined with ancient script repeating endlessly across the dark stone around them.
And every few steps—
he recognized another fragment.
Not consciously.
Instinctively.
As though some buried part of him already knew this place intimately.
Eventually Elyra stopped before a massive circular chamber near the center of the temple.
The room surrounding them resembled an observatory built directly beneath the heavens themselves. An enormous opening stretched high above the chamber ceiling, revealing the night sky beginning to emerge outside while ancient mechanisms rotated endlessly around the room carrying glowing spheres resembling stars and planets suspended in midair.
And at the center of the chamber—
stood another fragment of Vijaya.
Everyone froze instantly.
The fragment floated silently above a black pedestal surrounded by golden seals glowing across the floor beneath it. Unlike the fragments Arin already carried, this piece remained completely intact. Long black metal engraved with golden patterns hovered motionlessly within the chamber while faint sunlight-like energy radiated from its surface continuously.
The moment Arin stepped into the room—
the fragment reacted.
Violently.
Golden light erupted throughout the chamber while the fragment lifted higher into the air. The pieces Arin carried responded instantly afterward, pulling hard enough against their bindings that he nearly lost grip entirely.
The entire temple trembled softly.
Liora immediately grabbed his arm.
"Arin—"
But he barely heard her.
Because the moment the fragments resonated together—
memories exploded through his mind again.
Not fragmented this time.
Clear.
Karna standing within this exact chamber centuries ago while holding a completed Vijaya in his hands. Elyra kneeling before him while blood covered the floor around them.
Then another memory.
Aditya entering this kingdom alone years before the war against the organization ended. Elyra arguing with him desperately beside the same pedestal.
"If you complete the soul too early, the cycle will consume you entirely."
And Aditya answering quietly,
"Then I'll break it before it can."
The memories shattered apart instantly afterward.
Arin staggered violently while pain surged through his head hard enough that he nearly collapsed.
"Arin!"
This time Liora fully caught him before he fell while the chamber continued glowing around them.
Everyone stared toward him in alarm afterward.
But Elyra simply watched silently.
Not surprised.
Like she had already seen this happen before.
Arin slowly looked up toward her afterward while breathing unevenly.
And finally—
he remembered where he knew her from.
Not Karna's life.
Aditya's.
The Regent had been there before.
Watching the cycle long before Arin ever understood it himself.
Elyra met his gaze calmly afterward.
"…now you remember."
And for the first time since entering the kingdom—
fear truly settled inside him.
