Chapter 17 - THE DISCOVERY

I noticed the changes slowly.

At first, I thought it was nothing. Just the bond settling deeper, the pack connection strengthening. But then other things started happening.

My senses sharpened.

I could smell rain before it came. Hear conversations from across the clearing. See in dim light better than I ever had before.

Then the strength came.

I lifted something heavy without thinking—a log that should have been impossible. Sasha stared at me.

"Elena. How did you do that?"

"I don't know." I looked at my hands. "I just—did."

She grabbed my arm, pulled me toward the healer's hut.

---

The healer was an ancient wolf named Marnie. She'd been with the pack for decades, seen things no one else had. When Sasha explained, her eyes widened.

"Interesting."

"What's interesting?"

"Human mates sometimes change. When the bond is strong enough, when the love is deep enough, they can gain wolf traits." She circled me, examining. "Strength. Senses. Longevity."

"Longevity?"

"You'll live longer. Not as long as a wolf, but longer than a normal human." She smiled. "The bond gives you pieces of him. Pieces of us."

I didn't know what to feel.

"Is that—is that okay?"

"More than okay. It's rare. Special." She patted my arm. "The Moon has blessed you."

---

I found Kael at the border.

He was meeting with Torin, discussing patrol schedules. When he saw me, his face changed.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing's wrong." I crossed to him, aware of Torin watching. "Can we talk? Alone?"

Kael looked at Torin. Torin nodded.

"Go. We're done here."

Kael pulled me aside.

"What is it?"

I told him. The senses. The strength. What Marnie had said.

His eyes widened. Then filled with something I couldn't name.

"Elena—"

"Is it true? Is this really happening?"

"Yes." He pulled me close. "It's rare. So rare. I've only heard of it happening a few times."

"And you're happy about this?"

"Happy?" He laughed. "Elena, this means you're truly becoming part of us. Part of me. The bond is giving you pieces of my world." He kissed me. "I'm more than happy. I'm honored."

I leaned into him.

"I was scared."

"Don't be. This is a gift." He pulled back, looked at me. "We should celebrate."

"Celebrate how?"

His eyes darkened. "I have ideas."

---

We didn't make it back to the cabin.

He pulled me into the forest, found a hidden clearing. His mouth was on mine before I could speak.

"Kael—"

"Need you." His hands were everywhere. "Need to feel this.

Need you," he murmured, his voice a low rumble that vibrated through my chest, igniting sparks along my skin.

His hands roamed tracing the curve of my waist, sliding up my back to tangle in my hair, then down to cup my hips, pulling me flush against the hard planes of his body.

"Need to feel this. Need to celebrate you. Every fierce, beautiful part of you."

I didn't argue.

How could I, when my own pulse thrummed in echo of his, every nerve alight with the same desperate fire?

He eased me down onto a bed of velvet moss, cool and yielding beneath me, like the forest cradling us in its ancient arms.

His fingers worked at my clothes with deliberate slowness, peeling away layers as if unwrapping a sacred gift.

The fabric whispered against my skin, and the breeze kissed my bare shoulders, my thighs, raising gooseflesh in the most delicious way.

Kael's gaze roamed over me, dark and devoted, drinking in every inch as though it were the dawn of creation.

His breath hitched, eyes tracing the subtle shifts in my form ,the subtle glow of the wolf awakening within, the strength blooming in my limbs.

"You're even more beautiful now,"

"he whispered, "

his voice husky with awe, leaning close enough that I could feel the warmth of him, the faint stubble of his jaw brushing my collarbone.

"Knowing you're becoming more wolf. More mine. Like the moon carved you just for me."

A shiver of pure longing rippled through me, and I reached up, threading my fingers through his tousled hair.

"I was always yours, Kael. From the first beat of my heart."

His smile was a flash of heat in the dappled light, tender and possessive all at once.

"Now you're even more."

He lowered himself over me, his body a perfect shield and promise, skin to skin, heartbeats syncing like thunder in the distance.

"Now you're truly part of me… woven into my soul."

He entered me then, slow and deep, a exquisite stretch that drew a soft moan from my lips.

The bond between us ignited like wildfire, blazing brighter, hotter, threading through our veins and binding us in a tapestry of sensation.

I arched into him, feeling every inch, every pulse, as if our very essences were merging under the whispering leaves.

"Feel that?"

he breathed against my ear, his voice roughened by restraint, hips rolling in a rhythm that sent waves of pleasure coiling low in my belly.

"The bond is growing.

Because you're growing stronger, wilder, with me."

Oh, I felt it. Deeper than words, richer than the earth beneath us, a profound connection that hummed through my blood, making colors sharper, touches electric.

The forest seemed to pulse with us ,the rustle of leaves like applause, the distant call of birds a symphony to our joining.

"Kael yes, I feel it," I gasped, my nails grazing his back, urging him closer, deeper.

"I know."

His pace quickened just enough, a building tide of friction and heat that made stars burst behind my eyelids.

"I feel it too".

Every shiver, every spark. You're my everything."

We moved as one in that hidden clearing, the ancient trees standing sentinel, their shadows dancing over sweat-slicked skin.

The bond sang..a vibrant, intoxicating melody that swelled with every thrust, every shared breath, drawing us higher.

Pleasure built like a storm, cresting in a rush of ecstasy that shattered through me, pulling him with it.

We came together, perfectly matched, our cries mingling with the wind, bodies trembling in the afterglow as the bond sealed us tighter, eternal and unbreakable.

We made love in that clearing, the forest watching, the bond singing.in a bed made of moss velvet

---

Afterward, we lay tangled in the moss.

"I love you," he whispered.

"I love you too."

"This changes things. Your life will be longer now. You'll see things you never expected."

"With you?"

"Always with me."

I smiled. "Then I'm ready."

---

That night, the pack welcomed me properly.

Not as Kael's mate they'd already done that. But as one of them. A true member of the pack.

Marnie performed a small ceremony. Spoke words in the old language. Painted symbols on my skin.

When she finished, the pack howled.

All of them. Dozens of wolves, voices raised to the moon. The sound vibrated through me, through the bond, through everything.

Kael pulled me close.

"You're one of us now. Really one of us."

"I know." I leaned into him. "I can feel it."

"Good." He kissed me. "Because you're never leaving."

"Never."
