Chapter 15 - EP 15 : WHEN IT LEARNS TO SAY

đź“– DIMENSION X

Episode 15: "When It Learns to Stay"

The light didn't fade.

It pulsed.

Like a heartbeat.

Slow.

Heavy.

Alive.

Ryan staggered back, gripping the metal rod tighter. "What did we just do?"

Voss didn't look away from the machine. "…you forced the system to react."

Maya blinked rapidly. "That is not a comforting sentence."

Zayn stepped forward, jaw tight. "Fix it."

"I don't fix things like this," Voss replied calmly. "I contain them."

Layla whispered, "Then contain it faster."

The machine cracked.

Not physically.

Something deeper.

Like reality itself splitting along invisible seams.

Arjun's voice shook despite himself. "The anchor's unstable. It's not collapsing—it's… expanding."

Ryan turned sharply. "That's bad, right?"

"Very."

Evie didn't move.

Her eyes were locked on the rising form above the machine.

Not shadow.

Not light.

Something layered.

Folding in on itself.

"…it's choosing," she whispered.

Maya grabbed her arm. "Choosing WHAT?"

Evie didn't answer.

Because the thing moved.

Slowly at first.

Then sharper.

Defined.

Edges forming where there shouldn't be edges.

Zayn took a step back. "That's new. I don't like new."

Voss lifted his device again, adjusting the frequency. "It's stabilizing through the fracture. We don't have much time."

Ryan stepped forward instinctively. "Then we shut it down."

"You already tried that," Voss said. "Now we do it properly."

Arjun's head snapped toward him. "You have a method."

Voss nodded once. "…but it requires precision."

Maya groaned. "We're doomed."

Layla ignored her. "Tell us."

Voss pointed at the machine. "That core is acting as a bridge. Not just between places—between states."

Arjun finished the thought. "Physical and temporal."

"Exactly," Voss said.

Ryan frowned. "So we break the bridge."

"No," Voss corrected. "We collapse it."

Silence.

Zayn crossed his arms. "Difference?"

"If you break it," Voss said, "the energy releases uncontrolled."

Maya blinked. "Boom?"

"Worse," Arjun said quietly.

Layla swallowed. "…and collapsing it?"

"Seals it," Voss said. "But only if done from both sides."

Ryan's stomach dropped. "Both sides?"

Evie finally looked at him.

"…Asteria."

The word hung heavy.

Zayn shook his head immediately. "No. Absolutely not. We are NOT going to another dimension today."

Maya raised a hand. "Seconded. Hard pass."

Arjun looked between them. "But if the connection exists—"

"It does," Voss cut in.

Layla whispered, "Then we don't have a choice."

Ryan didn't speak.

He was looking at Evie.

"…can you open it?"

Evie hesitated.

Fear.

Real fear.

"…I don't know."

The thing above the machine twisted suddenly.

A sound tore through the room—distorted, layered, wrong.

Maya covered her ears. "OKAY IT'S SCREAMING NOW—GREAT—"

Zayn stepped forward. "Decision. Now."

Ryan nodded once.

"…we try."

Evie stepped closer to the machine.

Her hands shook slightly.

Her eyes flickered—blue, green, white, then black.

"…I'll try."

Voss adjusted his device again. "When the portal opens, it won't stay stable for long. You collapse the core from that side."

Ryan stepped beside her. "We're not sending you alone."

Evie looked at him.

"…you can't come."

"Watch me," Ryan said.

Layla stepped in. "If anyone goes, we all go."

Maya pointed at herself. "Group project. No escape."

Zayn sighed. "I hate all of you."

Arjun nodded. "Agreed."

Voss looked at them.

For the first time—

he hesitated.

"…fine. But stay close. One mistake and you won't come back."

Maya whispered, "Love that positivity."

The machine pulsed again.

Stronger.

The thing above it expanded—stretching toward the ceiling, distorting the air around it.

Evie stepped forward.

Closed her eyes.

Raised her hand.

The room went silent.

Not naturally.

Forced.

Like something was listening.

Her voice came out soft.

"…open."

Nothing happened.

Zayn glanced around. "…that's it?"

Then—

the air split.

Not visually.

Not fully.

But enough.

A crack formed.

Light spilled through.

Not white.

Not warm.

Other.

Different.

Arjun whispered, "That's it…"

Maya grabbed Layla's arm. "We're actually doing this."

Ryan stepped forward. "Evie—"

The crack widened.

Pulling.

Strong.

Unstable.

Voss shouted, "Now!"

Evie stepped through.

Ryan followed instantly.

"No—" Voss started.

Too late.

Layla grabbed Maya and jumped in.

Zayn cursed and followed.

Arjun last.

The crack snapped shut behind them.

Silence dropped.

Voss stood alone.

"…reckless," he muttered.

But his eyes stayed locked on the space where they vanished.

"…but necessary."

On the other side—

everything felt wrong.

The ground wasn't solid.

The air wasn't still.

The sky—

wasn't normal.

Maya looked around slowly. "…we are NOT in Kansas."

Layla whispered, "…Asteria."

Zayn exhaled. "Okay. Cool. Hate it already."

Arjun's eyes were wide. "The energy levels here—this is incredible—"

"Focus," Ryan snapped.

Evie stood still.

Frozen.

"…this is home."

But her voice didn't sound sure.

The ground beneath them pulsed.

Just like the machine.

Ryan looked around. "Where's the core?"

Evie turned slowly.

Pointed.

Ahead—

a structure.

Not broken.

Not burned.

Alive.

Glowing.

Connected.

Arjun whispered, "The other side of the bridge…"

Zayn cracked his knuckles. "Then we break it."

"No," Evie said softly.

They all looked at her.

"…we end it."

The thing in the sky above them shifted.

Same shape.

Same presence.

But stronger.

Clearer.

Watching.

Maya whispered, "It followed us."

Layla shook her head slowly. "No…"

Arjun's voice dropped. "…it was always here."

Ryan stepped forward.

"…then let's finish this."

They moved toward the structure.

Step by step.

Closer.

The ground reacting under them.

The air tightening.

The thing above lowering.

Watching.

Learning.

Waiting.

Because now—

it wasn't split anymore.

It wasn't unstable.

It wasn't confused.

It was whole.

And it knew exactly where they were.

Back on Earth—

the machine cracked again.

Without them.

Without control.

Voss turned sharply.

"…no."

The core pulsed violently.

Unstable.

Breaking.

"…they didn't collapse it yet."

He grabbed his device, adjusting settings rapidly.

"…then I have to hold this side."

The lab shook.

Walls cracking.

Time flickering.

3:33 flashing repeatedly.

Voss exhaled sharply.

"…don't fail now."

Back in Asteria—

they reached the structure.

Closer than before.

The glow intensifying.

Evie stepped forward.

Hand trembling.

"…this is it."

Ryan stood beside her.

"…we end it together."

The others formed behind them.

No hesitation now.

No doubt.

Just action.

Evie raised her hand.

Energy built instantly.

Stronger than before.

Wild.

Uncontrolled.

The structure reacted.

The sky darkened.

The thing above dropped lower—

closer—

clearer—

almost visible.

Maya whispered, "Okay that's definitely worse—"

Zayn stepped forward. "Do it."

Evie closed her eyes.

Focused.

Everything in her pulling together.

All powers.

All energy.

All memory.

"…now."

She released it.

The structure screamed.

Light exploded outward.

The ground cracked.

The sky shattered—

And the thing—

screamed.

Not in anger.

Not in rage.

But in recognition.

Because in that moment—

it remembered everything.

And it chose—

to stay.
