Chapter 16 - EP 16 : THE WORLD THAT REFUSED TO CLOSE

šŸ“– DIMENSION X

Episode 16: "The World That Refused to Close"

The scream didn't end.

It stretched.

Across the sky.

Through the ground.

Inside them.

Evie dropped to her knees, hands pressed against her head. "Make it stop—"

Ryan grabbed her shoulders. "Evie—look at me—"

"I can't!" she cried. "It's too loud!"

The structure behind them pulsed violently, cracks spreading across its glowing surface like veins of light tearing apart. The sky above Asteria twisted, dark clouds spiraling inward toward the thing that hovered there—no longer just a shadow.

Now it had form.

Not complete.

But enough.

Maya stumbled back. "Okay—nope—this is NOT the ending I signed up for—"

Zayn pulled her back. "Stay up!"

Arjun stared upward, breath uneven. "It's stabilizing again—faster this time—"

Layla shook her head. "We just hit it with everything!"

"That wasn't everything," Voss's voice echoed in Ryan's head.

Ryan froze. "…did you hear that?"

"No," Zayn said. "Should I be worried?"

Evie's head snapped up.

"…he's still connected."

Back on Earth—

Voss stood in the collapsing lab, one hand pressed against the unstable core, the other gripping his device as it screamed with feedback. The walls flickered between burned and intact, time snapping back and forth in violent bursts.

"…listen carefully," Voss said, his voice breaking through both sides. "You didn't destroy it. You woke its full state."

Ryan swallowed. "Then how do we end it?"

"By closing the loop," Voss replied.

Arjun frowned. "Loop?"

"The fracture isn't a tear," Voss said. "It's a cycle. It keeps repeating because it was never completed."

Evie whispered, "The first opening…"

Voss nodded. "And the first closing."

Silence hit.

Maya blinked. "I hate where this is going."

Zayn looked at Evie. "…what does that mean?"

Evie stood slowly, her body shaking—but her eyes steady now.

"…it started with me."

Ryan's chest tightened. "Evie—"

"…so it has to end with me."

"No," Ryan said instantly. "We're not doing that."

Layla stepped forward. "Wait—listen first—"

"There's nothing to listen to!" Ryan snapped. "We find another way!"

"There is no other way," Voss cut in. "The loop needs its origin point to close it."

Arjun's voice dropped. "A complete cycle… start and end."

Maya shook her head. "No. Nope. I reject this plan."

Evie looked at Ryan.

Calm.

Too calm.

"…I can feel it," she said softly. "It's tied to me. Every time it grows, it pulls from me."

Ryan grabbed her hand. "Then we break the connection. Like he said."

Evie shook her head. "…there is no break. Only finish."

The thing in the sky shifted again.

Lower.

Closer.

Its form stabilizing further—edges sharpening, presence heavier.

It wasn't hunting anymore.

It was waiting.

Zayn exhaled slowly. "…we're out of time."

Layla grabbed Evie's other hand. "If you do this—what happens to you?"

Evie hesitated.

"…I don't know."

"That's not good enough," Ryan said.

Evie smiled faintly.

"…it's all I have."

Back on Earth—

Voss's grip tightened as the core surged again, cracks forming along its surface. The number 3:33 flashed repeatedly across his device.

"…hurry," he muttered.

In Asteria—

Evie stepped toward the structure again.

Each step heavier.

The air resisting her.

Ryan followed immediately. "I'm not leaving you."

"You have to," she said.

"No."

"Ryan—"

"No."

Silence.

Then Maya stepped forward. "Okay, if this is a dramatic goodbye moment, I'm emotionally not prepared."

Layla nodded. "Same."

Zayn crossed his arms. "…we stay."

Arjun added quietly, "We finish it together."

Evie looked at them.

All of them.

For the first time—

she didn't look alone.

"…okay," she whispered.

The structure pulsed again.

The sky cracked further.

The thing above descended—massive now, almost fully formed.

Its presence crushed the air.

Ryan's voice hardened. "What do we do?"

Evie raised her hands slowly.

"…we recreate it."

Arjun's eyes widened. "The original event—"

"Yes."

Zayn frowned. "You mean the portal?"

Evie nodded.

"But controlled," she added.

Maya whispered, "Define controlled."

Evie didn't answer.

Energy began to gather around her.

Stronger than before.

Unstable.

Wild.

Ryan stepped closer. "Tell me what to do."

Evie looked at him.

"…stay with me."

He nodded. "Always."

Layla and Maya moved beside her.

Zayn and Arjun behind them.

A circle.

Not planned.

But perfect.

Evie closed her eyes.

The energy surged.

All colors flashing—red, blue, green, white—then black.

The ground cracked beneath them.

The structure reacted violently.

The sky screamed.

The thing above roared—

but didn't attack.

Because it recognized this.

The beginning.

Ryan felt the pull immediately.

Like gravity shifting.

Like time bending.

"…it's working," Arjun whispered.

"Or killing us," Maya added.

Evie's voice trembled.

"…almost there—"

The air split.

Not like before.

Wider.

Stronger.

A full opening.

Between worlds.

Between states.

The loop.

Ryan tightened his grip on her hand.

"…you're not alone."

Evie smiled faintly.

"…I know."

The thing above lunged.

Not to attack—

but to reach.

To connect.

To complete itself.

Zayn stepped forward instinctively. "Not happening—"

Layla grabbed him. "Wait—"

Evie shouted, "NOW—"

The energy collapsed inward.

The structure cracked—

then shattered.

The sky split—

then folded.

The thing screamed—

louder than before—

then—

silence.

Everything stopped.

No movement.

No sound.

No light.

Nothing.

For a moment—

there was no world.

Then—

they were falling.

Ryan hit the ground hard.

Air knocked out of him.

Grass.

Real grass.

Earth.

Normal sky.

He coughed, pushing himself up. "Evie—"

Maya groaned nearby. "I'm alive. That's disappointing."

Zayn sat up slowly. "…we're back."

Layla looked around. "The forest…"

Arjun checked his notebook frantically. "Energy readings—gone—"

Ryan turned.

"…Evie?"

She stood a few feet away.

Still.

Silent.

Ryan rushed to her. "Evie—talk to me—"

She blinked.

Slowly.

Her eyes—

normal.

Brown.

No glow.

No color shift.

Nothing.

"…Ryan?"

His breath caught.

"…yeah. I'm here."

She looked at her hands.

"…it's gone."

Silence.

Maya whispered, "…her powers…"

Arjun nodded slowly. "…the loop closed."

Zayn exhaled. "So it's over?"

Layla looked around.

The forest.

Calm.

Still.

Normal.

"…I think it is."

Ryan didn't move.

Still looking at Evie.

"…are you okay?"

She smiled softly.

"…I feel… light."

Back on Earth—

the lab stood still.

No cracks.

No flicker.

The core—

gone.

Voss lowered his device slowly.

"…they did it."

He exhaled.

For the first time—

relief.

But it didn't last.

Because on his screen—

one signal remained.

Faint.

But real.

He frowned.

"…impossible."

Back in the forest—

the group stood together.

Alive.

Safe.

Finished.

Or so they thought.

Because behind them—

deep in the trees—

something moved.

Not shadow.

Not memory.

Something else.

Watching.

Waiting.

And this time—

it wasn't part of the loop.

It was something new.

And far away—

in a place between worlds—

a faint glow flickered.

Not gone.

Not destroyed.

Just… sleeping.

Waiting.

For the next opening.
