Chapter 16 - CHAPTER 16: THE SILENT ADJUDICATOR AND THE BURNING BRIDGES

The fog in Oakhaven didn't just hide the truth; it tasted of iron and ancient regrets. Ren sat in the darkest corner of the 'Raven's Nest' tavern, a glass of amber liquid untouched before him. He wasn't there to drink. He was there to judge.

"The more they stay silent, the more they reveal their fear," Ren murmured, his voice barely a ripple in the heavy air of the bar.

Across the room, a group of men in expensive suits whispered in shadows. They were the ones who pulled the strings of this town, the ones who believed that by ignoring a problem, it would eventually fade away. They were wrong. They had never encountered a predator like Ren.

"32,000 words," Ren thought, a cold, sharp light flickering in his eyes. "The structure is complete. The trap is set. And they are still trying to find the door."

He pulled a small, silver lighter from his pocket, flicking it open. The flame danced in his eyes—a tiny, controlled inferno.

"I offered them a bridge to the truth," Ren said, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "But they preferred the safety of their burning houses. So be it. If they want to watch the world burn from their ivory towers, I will provide the fuel."

A man in a trench coat approached his table, trembling as he laid a sealed envelope before the detective. Ren didn't even look at it. He knew what was inside—another bribe, another plea for more time, another administrative excuse.

"Time is a luxury you no longer possess," Ren said, blowing out the flame. The smoke curled around his face like a spectral noose. "The verdict has been signed. From this moment on, Oakhaven doesn't answer to the law. It answers to me."

He stood up, leaving the envelope untouched on the grimy table. As he walked into the night, the 2.7K shadows followed him—a silent army of witnesses waiting for the final collapse.
