Chapter 35 - After Control

The silence didn't last.

It never does.

The screen was still on.

Clean.

No orders.

No names.

No control.

But the world…

The world didn't stay silent.

The first alert came on Daniel's phone.

Then another.

And another.

Notifications.

Messages.

Calls.

— It started… — he murmured.

Veronica didn't look.

She already knew.

Leon stepped closer.

— What's happening?

Daniel turned the screen.

News.

Live.

Companies trying to reorganize.

Accounts coming back.

People accessing information they should have never seen.

— The system collapsed… — he said.

— But not completely.

Veronica took a deep breath.

— It didn't collapse.

They both looked at her.

— It changed.

Silence fell.

But now…

Different.

More real.

— Is this going to work? — Daniel asked.

She took time to answer.

Because, for the first time…

She wasn't sure.

— I don't know.

The answer was honest.

Raw.

Human.

And that…

Weighed more than any decision before.

Days later.

The world was still adjusting.

There was no total collapse.

But there was no complete order either.

It was… something in between.

Unstable.

Companies tried to operate without interference.

Governments reacted.

Markets fluctuated.

But one thing was clear:

Nothing was the same as before.

Veronica was sitting on the mansion balcony.

The same place.

But not the same person.

The light wind.

A calmer silence.

But inside her…

There was still movement.

— You disappeared — Leon said, approaching.

She didn't look.

— I needed to think.

He nodded.

— And did you?

She let out a small sigh.

— I'm still thinking.

Silence stayed between them.

But not uncomfortable.

Different.

Lighter.

— You saved a lot of people — he said.

She gave a small smile.

— Or put everyone at risk.

— Maybe both.

She turned her head.

— Do you think I did the right thing?

Leon didn't answer right away.

— I think you did what no one had the courage to do.

Silence came.

— That doesn't answer it.

— I know.

She looked ahead.

— I still don't know if this will work.

— Neither do I.

Silence returned.

But this time…

Honest.

Later.

Daniel was in the office.

Working through reports.

Trying to understand.

But it wasn't just about numbers.

He was thinking.

A lot.

Veronica walked in.

— You're still on that?

He looked up.

— Someone has to try to understand the chaos you created.

She gave a light laugh.

— Fair.

Silence stayed.

— So? — he asked.

— Are you staying?

She hesitated.

— I don't know.

— Still?

— Still.

Daniel stood up.

— You can leave.

She looked at him.

— And leave all this?

He shrugged.

— You already changed everything.

Silence fell.

— And you?

— I stay.

— Why?

He smiled slightly.

— Because someone has to try to make this work.

She nodded.

— Makes sense.

At the end of the day.

Veronica was alone again.

But not in the same way.

She picked up the notebook.

Opened it.

The system was there.

Different.

No central control.

No direct manipulation.

But alive.

Breathing.

— And now…

She murmured.

No answer.

But none was needed.

Because now…

It wasn't about answers.

It was about consequence.

She closed the notebook.

Stood up.

Looked at the horizon.

The world was still there.

Changed.

But standing.

And for the first time…

Without someone deciding behind it.

Or at least…

Not in the same way.

She took a deep breath.

And said, almost in a whisper:

— Now it's up to you.

The wind carried the words away.

And the silence that remained…

Was no longer heavy.

It was… open.

The end?

Or the beginning.
