Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Abyss in My Heart

"Abyss"

"Incomingggggggg" I swam over to squish Sarit, wrapping around him tightly. He let out an "oof" exclaiming in the tightness of my hug. I give the BEST hugs.

In the glowing walls of my cave, some jellyfish that stuck around on a mutal basis helping make it glow. Moving around in otherwise dark deeper waters of my abyss. We learned to make it glow more though! With one of my limbs I went to pick up one of my magick books. I wanted to make sure I got the spell right this time so that Sarit can stay down here longer.

"Sarit look at the way I shrouded you in the ink, is the water pressure hurting less?"

He looked up at me with his tired eyes "a bit but I am so sore from going through the sand abyss's. They're seriously sinkholes. I almost ran into a hunter in there!"

I patted him "well you're with me you'll be fine! You'd only need to worry if you brought your human with you" I teased.

Sarit glared and smacked me with his fin.

"So what's the plan" he asked. "You just intend me to work at the company every day so you can infiltrate better?"

"Yes, I want to get closer to the CEO. He's one of the only ones around our age. The report you gave me from the informants you found said he lost family and tribal people like I did. Maybe that is a weakness I can exploit. I don't think I have access to the shareholders right now, and I won't mess with a child." I said pointing to the driftwood report.

"He looks like his name, jet black" said Sarit. He turned to much some seaweed nonchalantly.

I looked closer at the land photo, thinking of the man I just met. "Hmm he does have some vivid features, but he also has that contrasting softness. He looks like a crystal. You know crystals have many hues, unlike me" I mused to him.

Sarit just turned to me looking a little surprised. "Here is the boy who tries to say he's stupid! I know not of land crystals" waving his hand in the air showing the gleam of his oceanite adorning his hands.

"With your fashion sense I would have thought you wanted to gather many treasures especially from the humans you target" I said.

He made a pshhh sound saying "I rarely encounter people wearing Onyx, besides, that crystal isn't my type"

"Oh and pearls are?" I teased. Watching his face blush slightly. "All these years have made you rather pent up my friend"

"I am most certainly not!" He half shrieked "the audacity!"

I luaghed a bit handing him a bottle of gel to apply on his face "do you think my skin is too wet" he said. I looked over at him. He was the swimming epitome of gorgeous what was he on about. "For someone who doesn't care about others a lot you sure do care about your beauty" I said.

"Well I need to be gorgeous to lure the despicable humans, but one must always enjoy looking at themselves!" He said.

The differences between our species was obvious at times like this. "You're such a siren creature always liking your reflection" I said with a luagh.

"Well it's important for my powers and being the best diva of all" he said with a sassy tone. Flicking his imaginary long hair.

I luaghed at started practicing my spears technique.

I got up early. Though it's hard to tell down here under the sand holes in my hide out. I heard the sounds of rustling from phi Riddle, a Coral Grouper Mermaid.

She was shuffling through some items, noticing me awake, she handed me a net full of oysters "here, eat up. I came by to trade some items with the beings around here and thought you might need this" she said.

"Thank you phi. I forgot to even go scavenging these last days with my mind so busy" I said a bit flustered.

She looked at me a bit worried about my state. Puasing to check my face over to see if I was sick. "Are you feeling well?" She asked.

"Well enough" I replied. She looked at me a bit skeptical.

"Okay, if you say so. You said you wanted to get up to do some sort of business these days, I presumed to do with the report Sarit pulled some barnicles to help you procure?" She said pointing to the report and me still laying in my shell resting.

"Ah oh yes!" I said scurrying my limbs up knocking some things over into my stone walls.

I hurried to get ready grabbing all the things and stuffing them in my satchel, using the plastic bottles humans had dropped into the sea to store some of my small items like the strings I was going to use to make some items later or fidget.

I swam up, puasing a bit when I was out of breath. I kept puffing my body up and up like a balloon. I switched to focusing on using my magick to propel me forward and calm my body into slowly adapting.

"Sarriiiiiit! Knock knock!" I chirped to Sarit whom was still sleeping in his cushy little bed of mixed sea materials.

He yawned and stretched out on the minorly slippery surface of his bed that was woven together. Sliding onto his side with ease. He tossled his mammalian hair mixing a bit of salve and pearl powder into it before shaking the extra loose in the water.

He turned those groggy eyes towards me, telling me "give me a bit I must get ready"

"Ready for your boyfriend you mean?"

He sided eyed me unamused. It was too fun to tease him a bit. In all my days I had not seen him like this even remotely. He may be a siren but he always locks those traits most associated with the others behind a door no one, even me has been past, until now.

He strung up one of his conducting instruments that some sirens specifically of his whale species use. I always thought it fascinating how whales communicate with other whales through vibrations and sounds, conveying the complete emotions, letting the others feel each others in full.

I felt a bit bad for him sometimes because unlike Humpbacks whales. He was a Bryde's Whale. His mother wasn't a dolphin nor a humpback like the other sirens he grew up with. Instead he was a solitary type that often isolated himself more.

I am not sure what he saw in me as good company. Since our families had arranged us to pair when we were kids. However, we grew closer and closer and I am so grateful for it.

I only wish the world got to hear his beautiful voice and calls more.

"I'm heading up first then!" I said to him, kissing the side of his head affectionately. He smiled back indicating I can go ahead.

I swam up and transformed on shore. I do hope this gets easier! This dreadfully hurts! Using my magick to first camouflage then change my shapes truly hurt. I tried to shake it off and stand. Not only is land difference but without 8 limbs my balance is truly different.

I walked towards the spot to change into clothes I left by the canopy of the shoreline. I would need to get a better place to store these under rocks the tide doesn't get wet. I also need to buy new clothes.

I could feel a headache coming on. I didn't have my limbs to talk to or interact with. Each has their own ability to have independent thoughts and even personalities. Without all those neurons attached to me I feel numb and like an octopus thats been on land too long.

I saw Chada exiting his house, giving me a nod in acknowledgement slowly heading his way over in the distance.

I nodded back but turned back to my stash of weapons. I know I probably seem more timid to everyone around me. That's because those I don't like don't get to stay around long enough to tell the tale. Soon that will be Khun Onyx I said to myself. I won't let this chance slip away. I waited so long. I just need to be a bit more patient.

I am not very mobile on land unfortunately. I need to work on this, specifically my balance. I thought to myself while testing punches and throws in the air.

It is certainly so much lighter up here. So easy to move. My strength is here but I overshoot. My balance needs work if I am to do everything I've set out to.

I started attempting to run in place as Chada approached now. He nonchalantly asked "what trying to join a marathon?"

I stared at him before shaking my head. "No, but I need that agility and patience"

He shook his head not understanding nor asking. I didn't care anyway.

"When is Sarit getting here?" He asked me looking out at the water shielding his eyes from the sun to see.

"Whenever his beauty routine is finished" I said somewhat dismissively.

Points for him though, "he cares to notice when he's not here, good, he may have a chance" I luaghed a bit. The thoughts belonging just to myself.

I turned to continue my training, looking at the sea to tell the time.

"Looking for me?" Sarit's voice said a small distance behind me. I didn't even bother turning. Instead heading towards the steps up to the grass behind the trees. For this I knew they'd want some privacy
