Chapter 91 - The Class-Action Lawsuit

[The Omniverse - Abyssal Dynamics Corporate Headquarters]

The sprawling, polished-obsidian plaza outside the Abyssal Dynamics headquarters was swarming with angry adventurers. Thousands of heroes from across the Omniverse, clad in dented armor and holding maxed-out cosmic credit cards, were marching in a massive picket line.

At the front of the mob stood the Lead Hero of the Vanguard of Light. He was leaning heavily on a crutch, his knee still damaged from his encounter with the algorithmic Level 1 Skeleton.

The massive starlight-glass doors of the headquarters slid open.

Victor Thorne walked out. His midnight-blue suit was immaculate, absorbing the glare of the Omniversal suns. Seraphina walked a half-step behind him, her dark business attire pristine, her silver clipboard pressed against her chest.

"Thorne!" the Lead Hero screamed, his voice echoing across the plaza. He limped forward, shoving a thick stack of glowing legal parchment into Victor's chest. "You are served!"

Victor didn't flinch. He calmly took the glowing parchment, adjusting his cuffs.

"A lawsuit?" Victor asked smoothly, taking a slow sip of his black coffee.

"A Multiversal Class-Action Lawsuit!" the Lead Hero declared, the crowd of thousands roaring behind him. "We represent over four million heroes trapped in your franchised dungeons! We are suing Abyssal Dynamics for predatory lending, anti-competitive trap mechanics, and gross emotional distress! We are taking this to the High Omniversal Court, and we are going to bleed your company dry!"

Princess Ignis, standing by the doors, ignited her demonic broadsword. "Say the word, Principal, and I'll burn the picket line to ash."

"Put the sword away, Ignis," Victor checked his gold pocket watch. "A public massacre during pending litigation is a PR nightmare."

Victor tapped his gold-nibbed pen against the lawsuit, his Tycoon's Aura suffocating the plaza with absolute corporate dominance.

"You aren't taking me to the High Court," Victor stated coldly. "Because you legally waived your right to a trial by jury."

The Lead Hero blinked, his grip on his crutch faltering. "What?"

Seraphina stepped forward, projecting a massive hologram of the Abyssal Dynamics Terms of Service agreement. She highlighted a heavily buried paragraph on page 8,412.

"Subsection C, Paragraph 9: The Mandatory Binding Arbitration Clause," Seraphina read, her voice dripping with bureaucratic malice. "By purchasing an Energy Gem or signing a micro-loan within our infrastructure, the User expressly waives their right to participate in any class-action lawsuit."

"You... you hid that in the fine print?!" the Lead Hero gasped.

"It wasn't hidden. It was clearly stated in standard six-point font," Victor smiled a ruthless, calculating smile. "You can't sue me with a mob. If you have a grievance, you must face my legal team individually, in a private arbitration room, at your own expense. I will see you inside, Hero."
