Chapter 6 - chapter 5:the ghost in the shadows

The flames from the nightclub had died, but the tension they left behind still lingered in Blackridge. Smoke drifted through the morning air as people moved cautiously, whispering about the fire and what it meant. No one said it out loud, but everyone felt it this wasn't over.

Tyland Voss stood near the ruins long after the emergency crews had left, his eyes fixed on the blackened structure. To others, it was just destruction, but to him, it was a message waiting to be understood. Ignoring the warning signs, he stepped past the barricade and into the wreckage, the smell of ash thick in the air.

Inside, the damage was severe. Broken beams lay scattered across the floor, and the walls were burned beyond recognition. Still, Tyland moved with purpose, scanning every detail carefully until something caught his attention beneath a layer of ash. He crouched and brushed it aside, revealing the symbol once again the crimson crown. Beneath it, a single word stood out clearly.

SOON.

Tyland's expression hardened as the meaning settled in. This wasn't just a threat; it was a countdown. Whoever was behind this wasn't acting randomly they were planning something bigger.

A faint sound behind him made him pause. Footsteps. Slow and controlled.

Tyland straightened instantly, his senses sharpening. Someone was there. He moved quickly toward the sound, stepping into the shadows, but when he reached the corner, there was nothing. Just silence.

Then he noticed something on the ground a small metallic object barely visible among the debris. He picked it up carefully, examining it. A transmitter.

"They were here," he said under his breath.

By the time he stepped outside, Elara Quinn was already waiting. Her gaze went straight to him, sharp and questioning.

"You found something," she said.

Tyland held up the device. "They're not just watching," he replied quietly. "They're listening."

Elara's expression darkened. "That means they knew we'd come."

"They wanted us to," Tyland said.

The realization hung between them. This wasn't just surveillance it was control.

Later that day, Elara stood in her office, reading through a report that made her grip tighten. The documents showed that the shipment linked to the nightclub had been approved under her authority. Her exact signature.

But she hadn't signed anything.

"Everything checks out in the system," her man said carefully.

"Leave," she replied.

As soon as he was gone, the truth settled in. Someone inside her operation had access. Someone she trusted.

When Tyland arrived, she didn't waste time. "They're inside," she said.

Tyland's eyes narrowed. "Then this isn't just an attack," he replied. "It's infiltration."

That night, the city was quieter, but the silence felt wrong. Tyland sat alone, replaying everything in his mind. The attacks, the message, the transmitter it all pointed to someone who knew exactly what they were doing.

Someone who knew him.

His phone vibrated suddenly. An unknown number.

You still don't see it.

Another message followed.

Look closer.

Then a final one.

SOON.

Across the city, Elara stared at the same messages on her screen, her calm expression slipping for just a moment.

Because now it was clear.

They weren't being watched separately.

They were being watched together.

And somewhere in the shadows, someone was already choosing

who would fall first.
