Chapter 10 - chapter 10: The Throne

Gunfire tore through the night as Tyland and Elara fought their way out of the collapsing safehouse, the city around them erupting into chaos. Flames rose in the distance, sirens wailed, and the underworld of Blackridge turned against itself exactly as Kael had planned.

This wasn't just war.

This was control through destruction.

They barely made it to cover, bullets ricocheting off metal as Elara caught her breath. "He's not just attacking," she said. "He's orchestrating everything."

Tyland didn't answer immediately. His eyes scanned the burning skyline, his mind piecing it together.

"No," he said finally. "He's forcing a reset."

And then his phone vibrated.

One message.

Unknown number.

"Come home."

The Voss estate.

Of course.

By the time they arrived, the gates were already open, creaking slightly as if they had been waiting for years. The air felt different here heavier, like the past itself hadn't moved on.

Inside, the silence was unnatural.

Too quiet.

They stepped into the main hall.

And there he was.

Kael stood near the throne, calm, composed, untouched by the chaos outside, as if he existed above it all.

"You're late," he said without turning.

Tyland stepped forward, his voice steady. "End it."

Kael turned slowly, a faint smile on his face. "You still think this is something that can end."

Elara's eyes narrowed. "You've caused enough damage."

Kael looked at her, amused. "Damage?" he repeated. "No… this is evolution."

Tyland raised his gun.

This time, there was no hesitation.

"Last chance," he said.

Kael's smile didn't fade.

"You won't do it," he replied.

A beat.

Then

Tyland pulled the trigger.

The shot echoed through the hall.

Kael's body jerked

And then stopped.

But he didn't fall.

Instead…

He laughed.

Slowly, almost casually, Kael looked down at himself, then back up at Tyland.

"That was disappointing," he said.

Elara's expression shifted instantly. "That's not possible…"

Kael stepped forward into the light

And that's when they saw it.

No blood.

No wound.

A vest.

Tyland's grip tightened.

"You planned this."

Kael smiled wider. "Of course I did."

Then his expression changed.

For the first time

serious.

"You still don't understand," Kael said quietly. "I'm not the enemy."

Silence.

Heavy.

Confusing.

Elara frowned. "What are you talking about?"

Kael's eyes locked onto Tyland's.

"There's someone above me," he said.

That changed everything.

Tyland's voice dropped. "You expect me to believe that?"

Kael stepped closer, lowering his voice.

"I didn't just survive that night," he said. "I was saved."

A chill ran through the room.

"By who?" Tyland asked.

Kael smiled faintly.

"You really don't remember, do you?"

Before Tyland could react

The lights went out.

Darkness swallowed the room instantly.

Then

A voice.

From the shadows.

Calm.

Unknown.

Dangerous.

"Reunion time is over."

A gun clicked.

And suddenly

Tyland realized something terrifying.

Kael wasn't the one in control.

He never was.
