Chapter 22 - Shadows at the Edge

As the kingdom's festival raged on, filled with laughter, music, and the mouth-watering scent of roasted meats, no one noticed the shadows lingering at the edge of the palace walls.

A tall, ominous figure stood there, his silhouette twisted by the cold moonlight. He laughed — a chilling sound that sliced through the jubilation like a hidden blade. It was the Mysterious Figure, the very one who had tortured Kairo and Leonhart for so long. His eyes gleamed with cruel delight.

Beside him, a faint, radiant presence shone. Yet the expression on the Divine Angel's face was deeply unsettling — his usual calm mercy replaced by a strange, maniacal laugh. Together, they looked almost like twisted mirrors: darkness and light corrupted into the same wicked amusement.

"Well," the Mysterious Figure hissed, voice dripping with malice, "let them enjoy this fleeting happiness. Let them play, feast, and smile… until the next challenge arrives."

The angel's laugh echoed alongside his, cold and unsettling.

"Yes. They may taste peace for now, but it will not last. The trials… the suffering… all must come."

They vanished into the night without a trace, their laughter lingering in the cool air like a foreboding promise.

The kingdom remained unaware, celebrating under the brilliant stars, blissfully ignorant that dark forces were already planning the next test for the young heroes.

Kairo and Leonhart, surrounded by joy and comfort, had no idea that their next ordeal was silently approaching.

The sun dipped low on the horizon, casting a golden glow across the endless flower fields. Kairo rode beside the King, their horses' hooves gently brushing against blossoms that swayed softly in the wind. The sweet scent of wildflowers filled the air, peaceful and pure.

The King glanced at Kairo, his eyes warm yet serious.

"Kairo, do you know why this land is called the Land of Harmony?"

Kairo clutched the reins a little tighter and tilted his head.

"Because… demons cannot enter this place?" he replied.

The King chuckled softly, shaking his head.

"No, my son. It is not because of demons." He gazed out at the endless fields, his voice calm but heavy with meaning. "It is because of humans."

Kairo blinked, confused.

"Humans?"

The King nodded.

"Yes. Do you see why there is so much peace here? Why this land glows with harmony? It is because this land itself chooses who may live upon it. If people are good, God gives us foods which cure diseases. Here, people only die of old age. No one suffers because the hearts of our people are very kind and good. That is why this land chooses only good people."

Kairo's eyes widened.

"Chooses… people?"

The King smiled faintly.

"Before I was a King, I was just a maid's son. I was not rich, nor born of royal blood. But this throne… it chose me. The throne does not obey bloodlines — it obeys the heart. A king must be kind, strong, and willing to protect his people. Only then does this land accept him. Even though I was a commoner, people here treat everyone the same — the previous king's son and me. There is no difference at all. The previous king's son is now Leonhart's father, acting as duke. Long ago, our ancestors were kind tall but we are getting smaller and smaller generation after generation so i am around eight feet tall who knows you maybe tall as how our ancestor were"

The horses slowed as the King pointed toward the distant horizon.

"Our ancestors — long ago — many tried to settle in this land. But only some could enter. Those whose hearts were clean, kind, and free of corruption. The land welcomed them. But the others… no matter how hard they tried, they were rejected. They found another land to live in."

His expression hardened.

"That land is now our enemy. I don't know how they are even crossing from the forbidden forest and attacking us. They were the ones the Land of Harmony cast out. Their bitterness grew into hatred, and now they seek to take what was never theirs."

Kairo's grip on the reins tightened.

"But why, Father? Why didn't the land choose them?"

The King looked at him with gentle wisdom.

"Because this land only accepts people with pure hearts. That is why the water here strengthens our bodies, why the air makes us healthy, why even the people here appear strong and beautiful. It is the reflection of their souls. Those whose hearts were filled with lust, greed, and corruption were not accepted here."

He leaned closer, his voice lowering into a whisper carried by the wind.

"Remember this, Kairo. As long as the people remain pure and kind, this land will protect us. But if our hearts are corrupted… even this paradise will abandon us."

Kairo's young heart pounded at the weight of those words. The flowers around them swayed gently, as though they too were listening to the truth of the land.

The horses walked slowly, their hooves brushing aside flowers as if clearing a path for the King's words. His gaze softened as he turned toward Kairo.

"In this land, Kairo, men and women are equal. No man is greater than a woman, nor is a woman greater than a man. We walk side by side, not above one another. That is why this place thrives in harmony."

Kairo's eyes lit up with curiosity.

"So… this Land of Harmony could exist everywhere, Father?"

The King's lips curved into a faint smile.

"Yes, it could. If every citizen in every land held kindness in their heart, then peace such as this could bloom everywhere. But hearts…" He sighed, a heavy weight behind his words. "Hearts are so easily corrupted. Greed, envy, arrogance — these turn lands into wastelands, no matter how fertile the soil or how bright the sun."

Kairo lowered his gaze, thinking deeply. Then he raised his head again.

"Father, what about loyalty? Why are the men and women here so loyal to one another?"

The King chuckled warmly.

"Ah, you've noticed that. Yes, loyalty here is strong. Do you know why?"

"Because… they are kind-hearted?" Kairo guessed.

The King nodded approvingly.

"Yes, that is part of it. But there is more. If a man is truly kind-hearted — even if he lives in a dark, broken land — he will find a good woman to walk beside him. And if a man's heart is corrupted, then even here, in the Land of Harmony, he will draw to himself a woman just as corrupt as he is."

Kairo's mouth opened in awe.

"So marriage… is like a mirror of the heart?"

"Exactly." The King's voice deepened with gravity. "Marriage is not just companionship. It is a path that guides people. A man and woman who bind themselves with pure hearts grow together on the right path. But when people delay marriage for too long, or live without loyalty, temptation leads them astray. And astray paths always end in sorrow."

The wind passed through the flower field, carrying the King's words as though engraving them into the very air.

"Remember this, Kairo," the King said firmly. "The strength of a kingdom does not only rest on swords or soldiers. It rests on families built on loyalty and kindness. As long as men and women here remain true to one another, the Land of Harmony will never fall."

Kairo pressed a hand over his chest, feeling his young heart beat with newfound determination.

"I understand, Father. Then I… I'll make sure I never let this land lose its harmony."

The King smiled proudly, his eyes glistening as though he saw a future king in the boy riding beside him.

The King's voice softened as the horses slowed, their manes glistening in the golden light. He looked at Kairo with the warmth that only a father — and a king — could carry.

"Well, Kairo," the King said with a smile, "this land is only soil and stone. What makes it the Land of Harmony is not the earth, but the hearts of its people. Remember that."

Kairo nodded slowly, listening intently.

"Make sure you spread kindness to all people," the King continued. "With your knowledge, you can be more than a warrior. You can be a guide. Show others what is wrong and what is right. If enemies rise against you, do not strike with anger alone. First, strike with wisdom. Show them another path."

Kairo's brows furrowed.

"But, Father… what if they don't listen? What if they continue to hate us?"

The King's eyes glimmered, both heavy and hopeful.

"Then you try again. If you fail to change hearts even after trying, then leave them just as they are. They won't change. It is fine. If one heart turns to the light, it is enough. For that one heart will guide others, and slowly the roots of kindness will spread. That is how we protect not just our kingdom, but the generations yet to come."

The flower field swayed gently, as if bowing to the truth of his words.

Kairo placed his small hand over his chest, his eyes burning with resolve.

"I understand, Father. I will not only fight with strength. I will fight with kindness, with knowledge… and I will bring even our enemies into harmony, if I can."

The King's smile widened, his heart swelling with pride.

"That is the spirit of a true king, Kairo. And when the day comes, the throne will know your heart."

The boy's gaze lifted to the horizon, where the flowers stretched endlessly, as if whispering promises of a future yet to be written.

End of Season 1

Thank you for reading.

The first season is now completed.

In the Land of Harmony, there are no evil people. All are very kind. Sometimes in the villages, because they are strict, kids might think they are bad on rare occasions — but they treat all children equally, whether they are the king's son, a maid's son, or daughter. This land is filled with kindness and friendly people. That is why they are all so strong. Kindness is the biggest strength a person can have.

I hope this story taught you a lesson — how beautiful this world could become if people were kind. You can't always change other people's hearts, but you can change your own. Be kind and make people feel like you are a citizen from the Land of Harmony.

Thank you once again for reading my mid-ahh novel.

Enjoy until I finish Season 2.
