Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: Freaks? Two of Them?

For instance, the blood magic used by vampires, the holy magic of monster hunters, the rune magic of Asgard, or the elemental magic of the other Nine Realms.

Wong had heard of them all.

But he had never seen the type of magic Harvey used... that low-offense magic that felt more like a prank.

However, Harvey gave an answer that left Wong stunned.

"We are wizards from another world. We typically channel magic through bloodline, emotion, and will. We are fundamentally different from the sorcerers of Kamar-Taj."

Wong slowed his pace, asking in shock: "Another world?"

Harvey didn't want to over-explain.

"You can think of it as a parallel universe."

"I see."

Once parallel universes were mentioned, Wong understood.

He had read records of the Multiverse in the library and was familiar with the concept of parallel universes.

As they chatted, the group arrived at the library entrance.

The Kamar-Taj library was built into the mountainside, looking solemn and grand with a strong Oriental architectural style.

The heavy mahogany doors were decorated with silver patterns, giving them an extraordinary appearance.

Harvey followed Wong into the library.

The interior was spacious and high-ceilinged, with ancient chandeliers hanging from above.

The shelves lining the walls were packed with various magical books, scrolls, and manuscripts.

"What kind of books are you looking for?"

Back in the library, Wong felt as if he were in his own home. He relaxed significantly and sat down at a desk.

Harvey thought for a moment and said, "I'd like to borrow materials regarding portal magic."

"Oh, and I'd also like to borrow a Kamar-Taj Sling Ring."

"Portals?" Wong didn't expect this child to want to self-study a high-level spell that even adult sorcerers struggled to master.

Though he thought Harvey was overreaching, Wong pointed toward the right side of the library.

"On the top shelf of the third row over there, there are several journals from past sorcerers on the study of dimensional portals."

"As for the Sling Ring..."

Wong considered it for a moment. Since the Sorcerer Supreme had agreed to let these children self-study, she must have her reasons.

He reached out and traced a circle in the air.

A palm-sized portal appeared.

Wong reached into the portal and pulled out an ancient grey Sling Ring.

Seeing this, Harvey added, "Could we get two, please?"

Wong paused, then reached into the portal again for another Sling Ring.

"I suggest you start from the basics. For example, understanding the mysteries of dimensional space. Dimensional portals are advanced magic and very difficult to learn..."

Before he could even finish, he saw Harvey put the Sling Ring on and try making a circular motion with his hand.

A shimmering golden portal appeared.

Seeing this, Wong was utterly gobsmacked.

"You..."

Wong was too shocked to speak.

He had never seen a sorcerer who could successfully cast a dimensional portal on their very first try.

This wasn't scientific! It wasn't even magical!

"Seems like it doesn't consume too much of my magic?" Harvey muttered to himself.

He had just given it a small try. Opening a portal a few hundred kilometers away took about half of his current magic reserves.

But that was only because he was eleven years old; his magical power still had plenty of room to grow.

So the actual consumption wasn't that high.

Seeing how easily Harvey used the portal, Hermione, who had long desired this magic, put on the other Sling Ring and started drawing circles in the air.

The result—

Aside from a few stray sparks in the air, nothing happened.

"Why can't I do it?"

Seeing Hermione's confusion, Wong felt a surge of relief. At least this child was normal.

"The first time practicing dimensional portals is like this. Generally speaking, opening a portal requires a certain understanding of dimensions."

"Only then can you use your own magic to resonate with a dimension and borrow its power to open a spatial tunnel."

"Finally, you must visualize the destination in your mind."

"The principle is very similar to the jump theory in modern science..."

As he was speaking, Wong watched in horror as Hermione tried again, successfully opening a dimensional portal on her second attempt.

"This is impossible!"

His mental defenses shattered.

Back in the day, Wong had spent ten whole years building his foundation to master dimensional portals.

He started learning Sanskrit as a child, then worked his way up from simple low-level magic like Levitation, Illusion, and Shielding.

Then he had to read and study a massive amount of books on dimensions, the multiverse, and space.

Finally, he had to practice by trying to open short-distance portals.

The difficulty increased step by step.

From dozens of meters to thousands of kilometers.

The further the distance, the more the difficulty increased exponentially.

Wong had never seen anyone like Harvey and Hermione.

One succeeded on the first try, the other on the second.

"Did you two already have an understanding of dimensional space?" Wong desperately searched for an explanation.

Hermione's face was full of wonder as she observed her own portal.

Compared to Harvey's, hers was clearly less stable.

It wavered in size, obviously leaving room for improvement.

Hermione was thinking about what she could do better, and hearing Wong, she asked in confusion:

"What is dimensional space? Master Wong, I just did what you taught—imagined the place I wanted to go, and then it worked."

"No." Wong's world was crumbling.

"You mean you've never studied dimensional space before?"

Harvey replied with a straight face: "I don't think there was ever a rule that said you need to understand dimensions to learn how to open a portal, right?"

Hermione nodded repeatedly, acting as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

Wong had no rebuttal, as the facts were right in front of him.

Before today, he would never have believed someone could pick up magic for the first time and use a dimensional portal so easily.

But now, such freaks had appeared.

Two of them!

Wong went into total social withdrawal.

After a long silence, Wong could only warn them based on his years of experience.

"Your talent is too terrifying. No wonder the Ancient One allowed you to self-study."

"But some magic is extremely dangerous. If you want to practice, you must let me supervise you..."

Wong nagged them with his warnings.

He was truly worried about the innocent-looking Harvey and Hermione.

Geniguses with such talent were likely to become curious about forbidden magic, which could lead to them touching Dark Magic.

Once their temperaments were influenced by Dark Magic, leading them astray, the consequences would be catastrophic.

That was why Wong acted like a nagging old man, constantly warning the two children.

"Uh-huh! Got it!"

Harvey and Hermione nodded obediently, putting on a show of being well-behaved.

Hermione might have actually taken Wong's warning to heart.

But Harvey was somewhat dismissive of Wong's words.
