Chapter 9 - Small Battles

The next morning, Seo Yoon woke before the alarm. The sun hadn't fully risen, but she didn't mind. There was something in the quiet—the stillness—that felt… hers.

She dressed carefully, each movement deliberate, like practicing control over the smallest part of her day. Breakfast was the same as always, but today, she ate without rushing, savoring each bite instead of letting her mind race.

At school, she no longer smiled just to look normal. She smiled because she chose to. A little, cautious, but it was hers.

In class, when a problem stumped her, she didn't panic. She paused, breathed, and tried again. Failure was no longer something to hide, only something to learn from.

Even lunch felt different. She reached for the book she had tucked in her bag—the one she hadn't touched in weeks. Reading became a small rebellion, a way to reclaim her own time, her own thoughts.

No one noticed. And that was fine. Seo Yoon didn't need anyone to notice. This was hers. Her quiet victories stacked up, invisible to the world, but building strength inside her, brick by brick.

At the end of the day, she walked home with her head held high. The memories, the pressure, the old fear—they were still there. But they weren't in control anymore.

For the first time in a long time, Seo Yoon believed she could survive—and maybe, just maybe, she could begin to win.
