We had our first actual argument on a Thursday morning, over something completely mundane.
I wanted to move the desk in the shared study to a different position. Kaien had opinions about this. The opinions were specific, measured, and entirely wrong.
This is how I knew we were actually married.
"The light from the east window hits that corner between the sixth and ninth hour," I said. "If the desk is against the north wall, you have good natural light for reading for most of the working day. Where it is now, you're working in shadow after the second hour."
"I know where the light falls," Kaien said. "I have been working at this desk for eight years."
"And for eight years you've been working in shadow after the second hour."
"I prefer the shadow. It's easier on the eyes."
"Then put up a screen. You don't have to be in shadow just because you've always been in shadow."
