"Lucian!"
Akshan was delighted to see the two veterans.
"Stay back!"
What answered him was a roar.
Lucian's figure kept darting back and forth.
One mark after another exploded under his feet, throwing up countless clods of dirt.
Gray pillars of light lit up over him and Senna. Senna gave a low shout, and a beam of light shot toward the other side.
A shield lit up over both of them, then Senna followed with Piercing Darkness, restoring the health they had lost.
"Do not worry. Death is not the end of life. The journey has only just begun..."
Karthus's voice instead carried a calming power, but the savagery and chaos hidden beneath it could still be heard clearly.
"Dodge."
Caleb activated Predator and Phase Rush, summoned Aery, and charged straight at him.
The damage from these two Sentinels of Light was way too low. Caleb still had to handle this himself.
Seeing Caleb rush forward, Gwen scattered a stretch of Hallowed Mist, covering her teammates.
Kai'Sa's Void Seeker was only a step slower than Caleb, and it struck Karthus right after.
"Eat my fully mastered Starsnatcher Finger!"
Caleb did not hesitate. Manaflow Band surged wildly, while Transcendence and Absolute Focus activated at the same time.
The Gathering Storm he had accumulated along the way also came into use at this moment.
An enormous blue comet flew in from the horizon, aimed directly at Karthus.
Caleb knew this guy was most likely one of the Shadow Isles' high-end combatants. He could not drag this out and let the enemy learn the strength of their side.
The decisive battle would not really happen in this place, but in the war that came after.
Even the Trifarix of Noxus had not made a move yet, so why should Caleb be in such a hurry?
Wasn't he only here because this married couple had gotten themselves into danger, forcing him to come lend a hand?
Spells surged around Ryze. The necromancy the enemy used made him extremely displeased.
With no way to dodge, Karthus looked at the incoming comet and released massive gray curtains one after another.
But the curtains could only slow the comet's descent, and Karthus himself could not escape the area that would be affected.
Caleb was getting closer and closer. Fate Sealed was about to be unleashed, followed immediately by Last Breath.
However, a twisted space suddenly blocked Caleb's path. Void Seeker passed beside him and struck Karthus.
Ryze's machine-gun-like barrage of spells followed right after.
"I am a devil..."
A shrill voice rang out between heaven and earth. Caleb quickly had Aery protect him and prepared to trigger Nullifying Orb at any moment.
Gwen, who was two steps slower behind him, heard that somewhat ridiculous voice and could not help laughing.
"Don't laugh!"
The voice sounded very annoyed, which only made it even sharper.
"Fall back!"
Caleb did not hesitate at all. He used Arcane Shift to shake off the twisted space around him, and he himself rapidly retreated.
In its place, Serylda's Grudge flew from his hand and pinned Karthus down at high speed.
Most mages were fragile, and even if Karthus dressed lavishly, that fact did not change.
This weapon from the Freljord and the celestial realm, with its refusal to be stopped by softness or hardness and its nature of being able to harm the target no matter what, displayed its qualities to the fullest here.
A black ray shot toward the horizon, and the comet Caleb had nearly drained his mana to summon was shattered to pieces.
"What the hell..."
Seeing the so-called Tiny Master of Evil unleash such world-ending destruction the moment he attacked, Caleb already very much wanted to run.
Lucian and Senna were both here now, so what was he waiting for if not retreat?
But then a golden figure flew forward, making Caleb freeze for a moment.
"Kai'Sa!"
Caleb hurriedly stomped hard on the ground and activated Predator again to rush after her.
Kai'Sa was too fast. Caleb could only barely keep up. Halfway there, Icathian Rain swallowed Karthus whole.
However, after Caleb landed a Fate Sealed, even though he could clearly feel the enemy's body breaking apart, marks and curtains still appeared under Kai'Sa's feet and beside her.
"Go!"
Caleb suddenly turned around and used Nullifying Orb and Aery to withstand this attack.
Karthus, now turned into a spirit, attacked even faster than before. By the time Caleb finally retreated to his original position, he had already been wounded.
As for Veigar, it seemed his magic lost effect the moment it entered the Hallowed Mist.
But as he kept trying, the Hallowed Mist protecting Gwen also grew thinner.
"What are you three standing around for?"
The three somewhat stunned Sentinels of Light had not even opened fire in a battle of this level.
But when Senna raised her gun, Caleb suddenly understood.
The muzzle of the relic-stone weapon that originally came from the Blessed Isles was now covered in a layer of hazy gray.
"It was sealed?"
Caleb did not think too much about it. He immediately had Yuumi open a portal back to the Twin Cities.
"You retreat first."
Kai'Sa's expression did not look good either. Under that huge, dense barrage of spells just now, Caleb's mana was already nearly gone. Even with Manaflow Band's support, he probably would not be able to keep using abilities after this.
Ryze's spells, on the other hand, grew more and more violent. Sheets of ice formed wherever his spells landed.
It was not ordinary hard ice, nor was it the hard ice of the Freljord. What Ryze created was the coldest primordial ice in the world.
Because of that, even though it was only a thin layer, the "glacier" was already complete.
Looking at the glowing body under the little mage's hat, Caleb could not help thinking of another yordle who liked wearing a hood.
"If she locks onto me at a time like this, we're in trouble..."
The enemy had received reinforcements, and whether they had truly dealt with Karthus was still uncertain. Caleb decided to retreat first and make plans afterward.
And as Caleb and Yuumi walked toward the Book of Thresholds together, a burst of azure light suddenly attached itself to him.
"What is this?"
Veigar's staff was still waving. It seemed the time he needed to deal with the glacier was enough for them to leave.
Caleb looked at the azure mana on his hand and decided to accept it.
After all, since it could touch him without exploding, Caleb did not really believe this was one of Veigar's attacks.
After returning to the Twin Cities, Neeko was still waiting eagerly for Caleb.
It was deep into the night, and the Oovi-Kat had instead grown fond of Zaun's atmosphere.
Piltover, which was lively during the day, had now returned to silence, except for a small section of night markets and the docks.
But for Zaun, the night had only just begun.
Caleb signed his name on the contract. He had heard this paper was specially made in Ixtal to store agreements.
Caleb would not break the contract on his own initiative, but they still had to put some effort into dealing with the Void.
There was the Void lurking in Icathia and Targon, and there were also the Watchers sleeping inside the black ice of the Freljord.
Caleb knew the time he had to prepare was getting shorter and shorter, but now he still had to face the Shadow Isles, this great enemy.
He could only wonder whether Nagakabouros could withstand the Black Mist's assault.
