Another fine day began, at least until the light from the Promenade shone into Zaun's middle levels.
Only then did Caleb slowly wake up.
Last night, he had let his beast side loose and ended up sleeping for nearly twenty hours like a koala.
On this point, Caleb considered himself stronger than the Vastaya.
However, after waking up, Caleb had even more matters to face.
There was not only the progress on Mecha Kha'Zix, but also countless other complicated affairs that needed to pass through his hands.
Fortunately, with Renata's help, he could still enjoy a little leisure.
Caleb first took out the seed of life Maokai had given him.
This green seed of life was something Caleb planned to plant later, depending on the situation.
Maybe one day, he would be able to purge the mist from the Shadow Isles. When that time came, he would plant this seed there.
Perhaps more life would then be redeemed.
If that could not happen in the short term, Caleb would have no choice but to plant it in Zaun.
After all, Zaun now had Janna's protection. Even before the pollution was fully handled, the environment was still nowhere near as terrible as the Shadow Isles.
At the very least, those lives would have a place of refuge when the time came.
What made Caleb even more confused was that azure mana.
Judging by the people present at the time, it definitely was not Ryze, who had laid down the glacier and stayed behind to cover the retreat. That would have been completely pointless, what kind of thing had to be given to Caleb in those few seconds or he would die?
Karthus? That was even less likely. Caleb had cut him down, and the guy gave him an azure spell in return?
After thinking it over, Caleb still placed his target on Veigar.
From Veigar's speech, Caleb felt that guy's mind was at least somewhat abnormal.
Caleb could not figure out why this yordle was working for Mordekaiser.
Most yordles liked to live in peace and work happily. Having someone like Vex, that extremely gloomy, sleepless Poppy who hung around with a shadow, was already rare enough.
And Vex helped Viego only because she wanted the world to become a little more "pessimistic."
But what about Veigar?
As far as Caleb understood, this thing's desire to kill was actually not that strong.
If he was only pursuing Phenomenal Evil Power, why help Mordekaiser?
Caleb still took out that piece of azure mana, but he did not know what to do with it...
Looking at the water nearby, Caleb tried to scoop up that piece of mana and slowly place it into the water.
Then the cup began to shake violently, and the water inside rose into the air, forming a vast curtain of water.
A memory?
Caleb was slightly surprised, but he soon calmed down.
Because yordles lived in the spirit realm, they had a talent for magic that ordinary people could hardly hope to reach.
Take Heimerdinger, for example. At its core, his monstrous speed when building constructs also came from the innate power of yordles.
And it was precisely because of the spirit realm's unique nature that creatures like demons were born, feeding on people's negative emotions.
As for the specific issues involving the spirit realm, the Lunari were much more familiar with them. If he met Diana someday, perhaps he could ask her about it.
Still, one after another, all of them were now world-ending threats, so Caleb instead calmed down.
If he could not beat them, he would die. What else could happen?
It was not that Caleb had grown so detached that he looked down on the concept of death. He had simply gained a certain ease, doing what he could and leaving the rest to fate.
Without him, the entire continent might still be soaking in the Black Mist right now.
By then, the death realm and the Void would invade together, while the Darkin scattered across the world would not even know about Shurima's rise.
The whole world would fall into chaos. Heroes and warlords would rise everywhere, of course, and countless people would also die.
At least for now, Caleb could take care of the Twin Cities, Shurima, and the Freljord.
He could even account for his newly established ties with Targon and Ixtal.
It was true that there was strength in numbers, but that was ultimately not the same thing.
For example, he could not call everyone to the Shadow Isles and then challenge the monarch in the shadows.
But Mordekaiser could not be ignored either. It was just that Caleb now needed to gather his forces again.
"Neeko, do you have anything to do these next couple of days?"
Caleb might also make a trip to Qiyana's side. If that still was not enough, he could bring two Ascended along too.
The longer he delayed, the more the ice in the Freljord would melt.
But Caleb knew he had to act early.
If he did not act soon, he might lose the initiative when the time came.
Thinking of this, Caleb could not help letting out a long sigh.
"Caleb!"
Ekko pushed the door open and shouted excitedly.
"Let me guess. You successfully finished researching Mecha Kha'Zix?"
Caleb saw the excitement on his face and guessed the gist of it immediately.
Mecha Kha'Zix did not need to be as enormous as Mecha Malphite. Its main functions came more from combat and evolution.
In the Mecha suits story, in order to restrain Zero, the scientists had forcefully built three Mecha suits to stop the out-of-control Unit Zero.
Caleb now held two of them in his hands. If Aatrox had not still been in Shurima right now, Caleb suspected the system would have given him Mecha Aatrox.
But since the system had already vanished without a trace, Caleb no longer thought about those useless things.
The most important thing was how to get through the crisis in front of him.
Basically, the moment the Shadow Isles began attacking Bilgewater, Caleb's plan could be declared dead.
So he had to use every bit of strength he had and head over there for a quick, decisive battle.
If he gave Mordekaiser a chance, he could forget about everything.
"What is that?"
Ekko was not blind either. Looking at the curtain of water suspended above the cup, he could not help asking curiously.
"Something I saw on the Shadow Isles."
Caleb thought for a moment and told Ekko to go wait at the laboratory first. He would go look at Mecha Kha'Zix in a bit.
If it was feasible, Caleb would simply let it evolve on the Shadow Isles.
It was a beautiful idea.
When Caleb's attention returned to the curtain of water, the image on it immediately shocked him.
The beautiful Blessed Isles, countless species, and devout monks.
Beneath them were nearly endless dungeons, as well as a massive storehouse holding thousands upon thousands of treasures.
And the face of that warden was none other than Thresh after his seal had been released.
Caleb was not stupid. He did not even need to think to understand why a place's spring water could save someone as long as they still had a single breath left.
Soraka had descended to the mortal world in a body of flesh and blood. Xolaani had served the royal family of Shurima.
As for Taric, if an Aspect vessel had been on the Blessed Isles, how could it have been slaughtered clean by an army, a general, and a jester?
Caleb knew the truth would be dark, but what he had not expected was that the monks' practice of seeing the dead was, in essence, not for deliverance, but enslavement.
And the so-called "relic-stone weapons" had become their tools for establishing authority and torture.
Yorick's figure was also caught by Caleb. Compared to the other monks who needed "bitter cultivation," Yorick's inborn ability to see the dead and the living, along with his kind heart, became the reason he was ostracized.
And when a tall, thin figure appeared in Caleb's eyes, Caleb found it somewhat unbearable.
