Mud!
That was going to be the death of her…
MUD!
Sera's boot slid violently across the rain-soaked road, and suddenly the world tilted beneath her. She hit the ground hard, and pain exploded through her palms and knees as she skidded through wet dirt and gravel. And for one horrible second---
She couldn't breathe!
Behind her came snarls.
Close...
Too close!
Her exhausted body screamed at her to stay down. Every muscle burned, every fiber hanging on by a thread, and her arms trembled violently from overuse. Her lungs felt shredded, her heart felt like it wanted to tear out of her chest. Even lifting her head felt like dragging a stone.
But---
She didn't have the luxury of collapsing.
Too bad.
The thought was otherwise very appealing...
The Woobrutes thundered closer---
And Sera scrambled upright, nearly slipping again as rain soaked through her boots. Her vision blurred at the edges, but she forced herself forward anyway, sprinting toward the dark line of trees ahead.
