Chapter 2 - Ch2- The Change She Couldn't Ignore

For a while, everything felt perfect.

Not the loud, dramatic kind of perfect people talk about, but something softer… something calm and comforting. The kind of happiness that quietly settles into your life without making a sound.

Their days slowly began to revolve around each other.

The first message she waited for every morning was his, and somehow, he never forgot to send it.

"Good morning."

Such simple words… yet they had the power to make her entire day brighter. It wasn't just a message anymore—it had become a feeling. A routine. Something her heart had started depending on without even realizing it.

Sometimes she would wake up and check her phone before even getting out of bed, a small smile already forming on her lips, knowing his message would be there.

And it always was.

At night, their conversations stretched longer than they planned.

What started as short chats slowly turned into hours of talking about everything—school, dreams, random thoughts, silly jokes, even the small fears they never told anyone else.

"Do you ever feel scared about the future?" she had once asked.

"Sometimes," he replied, "but it feels less scary when I talk to you."

That one line stayed with her for days.

There was something about the way he spoke—simple, honest, and warm—that made her feel seen in a way she had never experienced before.

Sometimes they laughed so much that she had to cover her mouth to avoid waking everyone at home. She would press her face into her pillow, trying to hide her giggles, her heart feeling lighter than ever.

Other nights were quieter.

They would just stay on chat, not saying much, yet somehow it didn't feel awkward. It felt peaceful. Like their silence understood each other.

In those quiet late-night moments, she felt something growing inside her heart.

Trust.

And love.

He had become someone special to her—someone she believed would stay, no matter what. Someone she thought would never become just a memory.

And slowly, without realizing it, she had started imagining him in her future.

A future where they would still talk like this… still laugh… still care.

But love, no matter how beautiful it feels, can also hide silent changes.

At first, the difference was so small that she almost ignored it.

His replies started arriving later than usual.

The long conversations that once filled their nights slowly became shorter.

"Busy."

"Talk later."

"Maybe tomorrow."

The words were simple, but they didn't feel the same anymore.

She tried not to think too much about it.

Everyone has busy days, she reminded herself. He has his own life too.

Still, something felt different.

A strange uneasiness began settling in her chest—quiet, but persistent.

She started noticing things she hadn't before.

The way he used to reply instantly… now took minutes.

Then hours.

The way he used to ask about her day in detail… now became a simple "How was your day?" followed by silence.

She told herself she was overthinking.

But her heart didn't agree.

One evening, she sat with her phone in her hand, staring at their chat.

She typed a message.

"Are you okay?"

Then paused.

It felt like such a simple question, yet it carried so much weight.

She erased it.

Typed again.

Stopped again.

Why did it suddenly feel so difficult to talk to him?

Why did she feel like she was the only one trying to hold the conversation together?

That night, she waited for his message longer than usual.

The clock moved slowly, each minute stretching into something heavier.

Her eyes stayed fixed on the screen.

No notification.

No message.

Just silence.

And in that silence, her thoughts grew louder.

Was he losing interest?

Was she becoming just an option?

Or was she just imagining things?

She shook her head slightly, trying to push those thoughts away.

"This is nothing," she whispered to herself.

But deep down… she wasn't so sure.

Then one night, while staring at the glowing screen of her phone, a different thought quietly entered her mind.

Their future.

It wasn't something she had allowed herself to think about deeply before.

But now… she couldn't stop.

They belonged to different religions.

Different families.

Different traditions.

Things that once felt distant and unimportant now stood right in front of her, like a reality she couldn't ignore anymore.

What would her parents say?

What would his family think?

Would they ever accept something like this?

The more she thought about it, the more complicated everything seemed.

What once felt simple and beautiful now felt uncertain.

For the first time, doubt began to stand beside love.

Not stronger than love… but present enough to be noticed.

Her heart still wanted him.

Still waited for him.

Still smiled at his messages.

But her mind… her mind was starting to ask questions.

Questions she didn't have answers to.

She hugged her knees slightly, sitting quietly in her room, her phone still in her hand.

The chat screen was open.

His last message still visible.

And for the first time, it didn't bring her comfort.

It brought confusion.

A soft sigh escaped her lips.

She didn't want to think like this.

She didn't want to doubt something that once felt so right.

But feelings don't always listen to what we want.

Sometimes, they change.

Sometimes, they grow.

And sometimes… they begin to break without making a sound.

Her fingers moved slowly over the screen, tracing the old messages they had shared.

The laughter.

The care.

The warmth.

Everything was still there.

Nothing had disappeared.

And yet… everything felt different.

Her eyes softened slightly as a quiet thought settled inside her heart.

Maybe nothing had changed completely.

Maybe things were just… shifting.

But even the smallest shift can feel like a storm when it touches the heart.

She looked at the screen one last time before locking her phone.

And in that quiet moment, a question slowly rose within her—

A question she didn't want to ask, yet couldn't ignore anymore.

Was this love strong enough to survive the world outside their screens?

Or was it just something beautiful… that was never meant to last?
