Chapter 11 - Chapter 11 – “Blackmail in the Library”

Chapter 11 – "Blackmail in the Library"

"Knowledge is power… and someone wants mine."

The academy library was never truly silent.

Even in the dead of night, when most students had long retreated to their dorms, the air inside still pulsed faintly with magic—like whispers buried inside ancient pages, waiting to be uncovered.

Aira Valen stood at the entrance, her fingers brushing lightly against the heavy wooden doors.

She shouldn't be here.

Not at this hour.

Not after everything that had happened in the past few nights.

But something was calling her.

No… not something.

Knowledge. Power. Secrets.

Her Devour core stirred restlessly, reacting to the dense magical aura leaking from within the library walls. It was stronger than usual. Thicker. Almost intoxicating.

Aira exhaled slowly.

"Just a quick look," she murmured.

But deep down, she already knew—

nothing inside this academy was ever "just a quick look."

The Forbidden Section

The doors creaked open.

Inside, the library stretched endlessly, rows upon rows of towering shelves filled with ancient tomes, glowing scrolls, and forbidden manuscripts locked behind magical barriers.

But tonight… something was different.

The barriers were flickering.

Weak.

Unstable.

Aira's eyes narrowed.

"Someone's been here," she whispered.

Her footsteps echoed softly as she walked deeper inside, toward the section students weren't supposed to access—the restricted wing.

Normally, guards or enchantments would stop her.

Tonight… nothing did.

The deeper she went, the heavier the air became. Magic pressed against her skin like invisible hands, testing her, tempting her.

Her Devour instinct flared.

Hungry.

Curious.

Dangerous.

The First Discovery

She stopped in front of a floating book.

Unlike the others, it wasn't sealed.

It hovered mid-air, glowing faintly with dark blue energy.

Aira reached out.

The moment her fingers touched it—

BOOM.

A surge of raw magic exploded into her body.

Her vision blurred.

Her heart pounded violently.

And then—

She absorbed it.

Instinctively.

Completely.

The knowledge inside the book didn't just enter her mind—

it fused with her.

Spells. Formulas. Forbidden techniques.

Things no first-year should ever know.

Her breathing grew uneven.

"This…" she whispered, her voice trembling slightly.

"This is insane…"

Her Devour ability wasn't just consuming energy anymore.

It was consuming knowledge itself.

The Presence Behind Her

Clap.

Clap.

Clap.

Slow. Deliberate.

Aira froze.

"You're even more interesting than the rumors say."

A voice echoed through the restricted section.

Smooth. Calm. Dangerous.

Aira turned slowly.

Standing between the shelves, half-hidden in shadows, was a figure she recognized instantly.

Lucien Valtor.

S-rank.

Genius.

And someone who had been watching her far too closely lately.

His sharp eyes glinted with amusement.

"You broke into the restricted section," he continued casually. "Absorbed forbidden knowledge… and survived."

Aira crossed her arms. "You're here too."

Lucien smiled faintly. "Of course. This place doesn't open itself."

Aira's eyes narrowed.

"You did this."

"Partly."

His answer was too calm. Too confident.

Too dangerous.

The Blackmail

Lucien took a step closer.

"Do you know what happens," he said softly, "when a first-year is caught stealing forbidden knowledge?"

Aira didn't answer.

She already knew.

Expulsion.

Or worse.

Lucien's smile widened slightly.

"I could report you," he continued. "Right now."

Silence stretched between them.

Heavy. Suffocating.

But Aira didn't flinch.

Instead—

She smiled.

"You won't."

Lucien paused.

"Oh?"

Aira stepped forward, her eyes sharp, confident.

"If you wanted to report me, you would've done it already."

A beat of silence.

Then—

Lucien laughed softly.

"Smart."

Power vs Control

He circled her slowly, like a predator studying its prey.

"Let's be honest," he said. "You're dangerous. More dangerous than anyone here realizes."

Aira's Devour core pulsed.

"So are you."

Lucien stopped in front of her.

Their eyes locked.

Tension crackled in the air.

"But here's the difference," he said quietly.

"I control my power."

Aira's smile sharpened.

"Are you sure?"

Devour Evolution – Knowledge Absorption

Before Lucien could respond, Aira reached for another book.

This one darker. Heavier.

More forbidden.

The moment she touched it—

Magic surged violently through her body.

Her knees almost buckled.

But she held on.

Absorbed it.

Forced it into her core.

Her vision sharpened instantly.

New knowledge flooded her mind—

Advanced spell structures.

Dark magic sequences.

Energy manipulation beyond basic Devour.

Her breathing steadied.

Her body adjusted.

Evolved.

Lucien's expression changed slightly.

"…You're insane."

Aira smirked.

"I've heard that before."

Romance / ML Beat

"Then maybe I should remind you… how dangerous this is."

A new voice cut through the tension.

Cold. Low. Familiar.

Aira didn't need to turn.

She already knew.

Ren Kael.

He stepped out from the shadows, his gaze locked on Lucien.

Possessive.

Sharp.

Warning.

"What are you doing here?" Lucien asked, tone amused.

Ren didn't answer.

His eyes shifted to Aira instead.

"You shouldn't be here alone."

Aira raised an eyebrow.

"I wasn't alone."

Ren's jaw tightened.

"That's exactly the problem."

The tension between the three of them snapped tight like a wire ready to break.

Scandal / Rumors Begin

Unbeknownst to them—

They weren't alone.

From behind a distant shelf, two students watched silently, eyes wide.

"Did you see that?" one whispered.

"All three of them… together…"

Their voices trembled—not from fear, but excitement.

Scandal.

Power.

Danger.

By morning, rumors would spread across the entire academy:

Aira Valen in the restricted library… with TWO S-rank elites.

And nothing in this academy stayed secret for long.

The Deal

Lucien exhaled slowly.

"Well," he said, "this just got more interesting."

He looked between Aira and Ren.

"Here's my offer."

Aira's eyes narrowed.

"I don't like offers."

"You will."

Lucien's voice dropped slightly.

"I keep your little 'forbidden knowledge incident' a secret…"

Pause.

"…and in return, I get to study you."

Silence.

Ren's expression darkened instantly.

"No."

Aira didn't answer immediately.

Because she knew—

This wasn't just blackmail.

It was opportunity.

Dangerous.

But valuable.

Cliffhanger

Aira stepped forward slowly.

Her eyes met Lucien's.

Sharp. Calculating.

"You want to study me?" she said softly.

Lucien nodded.

Aira smiled.

Then whispered—

"Then keep up."

Her Devour core flared violently.

The entire restricted section trembled.

Books rattled.

Magic surged.

Something deep inside the library awakened.

And from the darkness—

A hidden door creaked open.

Revealing something that should have stayed buried.

"If knowledge is power… then tonight, I'll devour everything this academy tried to hide."
