Chapter 15 - The Return oF the Void

## **Chapter 15: The Return of the Void**

**Three Days Later – Azure Dragon Academy Gates**

The journey back from the Frozen Wasteland had been swift, thanks to the return teleportation token Headmaster Cang Lan had provided. But for Chen Feng and Lin Yue, stepping through the academy gates felt like entering a different world.

The air here was warm, filled with the scent of blooming spirit flowers and the distant hum of students practicing. It was peaceful. Almost too peaceful compared to the hellish cold they had just escaped.

Yet, as they walked up the main path toward the central plaza, the silence grew heavy.

Students stopped their sparring. Merchants froze in mid-transaction. Even the birds seemed to stop singing. Hundreds of eyes turned toward the two figures walking side by side.

Chen Feng wore his simple black robes, now slightly tattered from the battle, but his aura was undeniable. It wasn't just strong; it was *deep*. Like looking into an abyss that could swallow the sky. Beside him, Lin Yue glowed with a renewed vitality, the *Star Heart* fragment pulsating softly at her neck, her steps light and confident.

Whispers erupted like wildfire.

*"Is that... Chen Feng?"*

*"He looks different. His pressure... it's terrifying."*

*"I heard he went to the Frozen Wasteland. No one survives that!"*

*"And look at Lin Yue! She's radiating starlight energy. Did they find the artifact?"*

At the front of the crowd, a group of elders stood waiting. Among them was Elder Liu, looking pale and haggard. His nephew, Long Ao, was nowhere to be seen—likely hiding in shame after being reduced to a mortal.

But the most imposing figure was **Headmaster Cang Lan**. He stood atop the grand staircase, his silver hair flowing in the wind, his eyes sharp and assessing.

"You returned," the Headmaster said, his voice carrying clearly to every corner of the plaza without shouting. "And you brought the scent of eternal frost with you."

Chen Feng stopped at the foot of the stairs. He didn't bow. He simply nodded.

"We succeeded, Headmaster. The Dragon Scale Pearl is secured. The Demon God of Winter is re-sealed."

A collective gasp rippled through the crowd. *Demon God?* *Re-sealed?* These were legends, myths from ten thousand years ago. And this boy claimed to have faced one?

Elder Liu stepped forward, his face twisted in disbelief. "Lies! A mere Foundation Establishment cultivator? Facing a Demon God? You expect us to believe such fairy tales?"

Chen Feng turned his gaze slowly to Elder Liu. The elder flinched, taking an involuntary step back as if struck by a physical blow. The void pressure in Chen Feng's eyes was suffocating.

"Do you doubt me, Elder Liu?" Chen Feng asked softly. "Would you like me to demonstrate the techniques I learned from the Frost Giant's core? Perhaps on you?"

"No!" Headmaster Cang Lan interjected sharply, stepping down to stand between them. "There will be no fighting within the academy grounds. Chen Feng has earned our respect, not our suspicion."

He looked at Chen Feng, his expression serious. "Come. My office. We have much to discuss. And you, Lin Yue... the Alchemy Hall has prepared a stabilization pill for you based on the reports you sent. Go there first."

Lin Yue squeezed Chen Feng's hand briefly. "I'll meet you later."

She turned and walked away, surrounded by a group of female disciples eager to hear her story.

Chen Feng followed the Headmaster up the stairs, ignoring the staring crowd. As they passed Elder Liu, the old man lowered his head, unable to meet the young man's gaze. The hierarchy had shifted. Power commanded respect, and Chen Feng now held more of it than half the elders combined.

**Headmaster's Private Study – The Cloud Peak**

The room was spacious, lined with scrolls and artifacts from ancient eras. A large window offered a panoramic view of the entire academy and the mountains beyond.

Headmaster Cang Lan poured two cups of spiritual tea, offering one to Chen Feng.

"Sit. Tell me everything. And do not leave out the details about the 'Six Sovereigns'."

Chen Feng accepted the tea but didn't drink. He sat calmly, his posture relaxed but alert.

"You know about them?"

"I know the legends," Cang Lan replied, sitting opposite him. "Six tyrants who ruled the world ten millennia ago before vanishing. Some say they ascended. Others say they were sealed. But my family has kept records... records that speak of their betrayal of a seventh sovereign. The Void Flame Sovereign."

Chen Feng's eyes narrowed slightly. "Your family knows well."

"My ancestor served under the Void Flame Sovereign," Cang Lan revealed, his voice dropping to a whisper. "When the six betrayed him, my ancestor hid the last fragments of the true history. We have waited ten thousand years for a sign. For the return of the Void."

He leaned forward, his eyes locking onto Chen Feng's. "When you broke the testing pillar, I suspected. When you devoured the Azure Dragon's spirit, I was sure. And now, hearing you speak of the Demon God of Winter... I know. You are him. Or at least, his successor."

Chen Feng stayed silent for a moment. Denying it would be pointless. This man was an ally, perhaps the only one he could trust in this continent.

"I am Chen Feng," he said finally. "But I carry the memories and the fire of Zhang Wei. The Six Sovereigns think they won. They think I am dead or weak. I intend to keep it that way... until the day I rip their thrones apart."

Cang Lan nodded slowly, a look of relief washing over his face. "Then the Azure Dragon Academy is yours. Use our resources. Train your allies. Prepare your army. We will stand with you."

"I don't need an army yet," Chen Feng said, standing up. "I need information. The Demon God mentioned a 'Northern Gate'. And the memory from the pearl hinted at other seals across the continent. Where are the other locations linked to the Six Sovereigns?"

Cang Lan walked to a large map on the wall. He pointed to three specific locations marked with ancient runes.

"Here. The **Blazing Desert of the South**, where the Sovereign of Fire resides. Here, the **Thunder Peaks of the East**, domain of the Lightning Sovereign. And here, the **Shadow Forest of the West**, ruled by the Assassin Sovereign."

"They are gathering power," Chen Feng murmured, tracing the map. "If they break all the seals, they will return to full strength."

"Then we must stop them," Cang Lan said firmly. "But you cannot fight them all alone. Not yet. You need to strengthen your foundation. Reach the Golden Core. Form your own sect."

Chen Feng smiled faintly. "A sect... Yes. The 'Void Sect' sounds appropriate."

He turned to leave. "I will stay in the academy for a month to consolidate my breakthrough and gather supplies. Then, I head to the Blazing Desert. The Fire Sovereign's seal is the weakest. It's the best place to start."

"Wait," Cang Lan called out. "There is one more thing. The **Continental Youth Tournament** begins in three months. It will be held in the Imperial Capital. Representatives from all major sects and the Six Sovereigns' hidden clans will be there. It is the perfect place to scout your enemies... and to make a statement."

Chen Feng paused at the door. A cruel smile touched his lips.

"A tournament? Perfect. I've always enjoyed breaking toys in public."

He opened the door.

"Prepare the best cultivation cave for me, Headmaster. I have work to do."

---

**One Month Later – The Void Cave**

Deep within the academy's restricted zone, inside a cave specially reinforced with formation arrays, Chen Feng sat in meditation.

For thirty days, he hadn't moved. He hadn't eaten. He hadn't slept.

He was circulating the *Void Scripture* at maximum capacity, absorbing the ambient spiritual energy of the entire mountain range.

Inside his dantian, the liquid sea of energy was swirling violently, condensing further. Tiny particles of gold began to form within the black liquid.

*Golden Core formation.*

It was the next major bottleneck. Most cultivators spent decades trying to form their core. Chen Feng was attempting it in a month.

**[System Notification]**

**[Energy Absorption Rate: 2000%]**

**[Current Progress to Golden Core: 45%...]**

**[Warning: Instability detected. Risk of backlash: High.]**

"Push through," Chen Feng commanded mentally. "Use the residual energy from the Dragon Scale Pearl fragment."

He pulled out the small shard Lin Yue had given him. It still contained traces of the ancient dragon's power. He crushed it.

The energy exploded outward, feeding directly into his dantian.

*Boom!*

His body shook. Cracks appeared on the cave walls. But inside him, the golden particles began to fuse.

A small, spinning sphere of black and gold formed in his center.

**The Void Core.**

**[Breakthrough Successful!]**

**[Current Cultivation: Golden Core Level 1]**

**[New Ability Unlocked: 'Void Flight']**

**[New Ability Unlocked: 'Core Explosion' (Self-Destruct/Ultimate Attack)]**

**[System Update: Host status changed from 'Rising Star' to 'Continental Threat'.]**

Chen Feng opened his eyes.

They were no longer human. For a brief second, galaxies seemed to spin within his irises.

He stood up, floating inches off the ground without flapping his wings or using a sword. *Void Flight.*

"The tournament is in two months," he whispered, landing softly. "Time to gather my team."

He walked out of the cave.

Lin Yue was waiting outside, along with a few other disciples he had subtly tested and found worthy during his month of isolation. A fire-user with control over blue flames. A swordswoman with speed rivaling the wind. And a healer with a mysterious bloodline.

"Ready?" Chen Feng asked them.

Lin Yue smiled, her staff glowing. "Born ready."

"Good," Chen Feng said, looking toward the horizon where the Imperial Capital lay. "Then let's go show the world what the Void Sect can do."

They took off into the sky, five figures soaring above the clouds, leaving the Azure Dragon Academy behind.

The era of the Six Sovereigns was ending.

The era of the Void had begun.
