Chapter 20 - Continuing

They didn't stop traveling.

The ground ahead dipped lower, the air settling heavier with each step. It wasn't visible—not in any way that could be pointed at—but it pressed against the inside.

Subtle.

Constant.

Yuto noticed it immediately.

The pressure inside him—mana—didn't move as freely.

It wasn't blocked.

But resisted.

He adjusted to it.

Reduced flow.

Tightened it closer to his core.

More efficient.

Less exposed.

The resistance lessened.

Not gone.

But manageable.

"…The air is getting thicker," Ryn said.

Mira nodded. "…Yeah."

Yuto didn't respond.

He was already adjusting.

The terrain shifted again.

Less open space, more confined paths. The kind of ground that forced movement into lines.

Controlled and predictable movement.

Bad terrain for reacting.

Good terrain for being forced.

Yuto stopped.

Not abruptly.

Just—

stopped.

Ryn halted a step later.

"…What?"

"…This area is shaped."

Mira frowned. "…Shaped?"

Yuto looked ahead.

"…Movement is being directed."

Ryn glanced around.

"…You mean like—"

"…Like we are being funneled."

Silence.

A sound.

Behind them.

Not close.

But there.

Then—

Another.

To the side.

Mira stepped back.

"…We're not alone."

Yuto turned his head slightly.

The pressure inside him tightened.

Multiple.

Not scattered.

Positioned.

"…Four," he said.

Ryn exhaled.

"…Of course it's not three this time."

They appeared slowly.

Not rushing.

Not lunging.

Stepping into view.

One ahead.

One to the left.

One to the right.

One behind.

Formation.

Yuto understood immediately.

These weren't like the others.

"…They're coordinating," Mira said quietly.

"Yeah..."

The one ahead moved first.

Not fast.

Measured.

Closing distance.

Yuto stepped forward.

Matched it.

The one behind moved at the same time.

Toward Ryn.

Ryn turned—

Met it.

Blade up—

Clash—

He held.

Barely.

The ones on the sides moved next.

Not together.

Offset.

Trying to split attention.

Yuto moved.

Not reacting to every one of them.

Choosing.

He closed distance with the one ahead.

His arm shifted—

Edge forming—

He struck—

The creature blocked.

Clean.

Its limb met his.

Stopped it.

No penetration.

Yuto adjusted instantly.

Pressure increased.

Denser.

He shifted angle—

Struck again—

The creature twisted.

Reduced impact.

It learned.

The one from the side lunged.

Now—

Two.

Yuto stepped back—

Just enough.

Repositioned.

Ryn struggled behind him.

His movements were better than before.

But—

Not enough to handle pressure from a coordinated attack.

"…Left!" Ryn called.

Yuto didn't turn.

He already knew.

The second creature came in—

Yuto intercepted—

Short movement—

Precise—

His arm shifted—

Denser—

He struck—

This time—

He didn't aim shallow.

He committed.

The strike pierced.

The creature jerked—

Stopped.

But—

The first was already moving again.

Yuto released—

Turned—

Blocked—

The impact hit—

His structure held—

But—

He felt it.

The force of the attack was increasing.

The other two pressed closer.

Closing space.

Reducing room.

They were controlling the fight.

Yuto stepped forward.

Not back.

Into them.

That broke their formation.

The creature ahead adjusted—

Too slow.

Yuto struck—

Clean—

Deep—

It stopped.

Two left.

Ryn managed to push his opponent back slightly—

But he was losing ground.

Yuto moved—

Intercepted—

His arm shifted—

Edge—

Density—

Compression—

The strike landed—

But—

The creature resisted.

Longer.

It pushed through.

Its limb struck Yuto—

Direct.

Heavy.

His body held—

But—

He was forced back a step.

A step.

Yuto stopped.

That—

had not happened before.

The pressure inside him—

did not break.

Did not scatter.

But—

He had been moved.

The creature pressed.

Yuto stepped in again.

This time—

He changed approach.

Not just force.

Not just edge.

He compressed deeper.

Focused inward.

Reduced surface.

Increased density at the point of contact.

Then—

He struck.

The resistance—

broke faster.

The creature stopped.

One left.

It didn't hesitate.

It lunged for Ryn again.

Yuto moved—

Faster.

Intercepted mid-motion—

His arm drove forward—

Clean.

The creature stopped instantly.

Silence.

Four bodies.

Dead.

The pressure in the air remained.

Unchanged.

Ryn exhaled hard.

"…Okay..."

A pause.

"what were those things!?."

Mira didn't speak.

She was looking around.

Not at the bodies.

At the space.

"They boxed us in..." she said quietly.

"…Yes."

Yuto looked at the terrain again.

The narrow paths.

The forced angles.

"…This is intentional."

Ryn ran a hand through his hair.

"…You mean something set this up?"

"...Yes."

Silence.

The pressure inside Yuto shifted.

Not reacting.

Not warning.

Confirming.

They moved again.

But this time—

not just forward.

Carefully.

Watching the ground.

Watching the spacing.

The terrain continued.

Narrow.

Controlled.

Then—

It opened.

Suddenly.

A wide space.

Flat.

Cleared.

Too clean.

Yuto stopped.

"…This is the center."

Ryn swallowed hard.

"…You sure?"

Yuto looked ahead.

The pressure inside him—

tightened.

Lower.

Heavier.

"…Yes."

Mira stepped back slightly.

"…Then whatever made all this…"

She didn't finish.

They didn't need her to.

Because—

something was already there.

At the center.

Waiting.

Yuto stepped forward.

One step.

The thing moved.

Not toward them.

It turned.

And faced them.

The pressure dropped.

Not naturally.

Forced.

Yuto's internal flow—

stuttered.

For the first time since entering this world—

It didn't respond instantly.

Silence.

Then—

The fight—

had already begun.
