Chapter 25 - After the Argument

That night, the house was quiet as usual, but something felt different to Maya. It was not something she could point to directly, but she could feel it. The conversation from earlier stayed in her mind, repeating itself in small pieces. She did not regret what she said, but she could not ignore it either.

After changing, she stepped out of her room and walked toward the dining area. Caspian was already there, seated at the table, his attention on his phone. Maya paused for a second before walking in, then took her seat quietly.

For a while, neither of them spoke. The silence was not new, but it felt heavier than before. Maya picked up her cutlery and started eating slowly, her thoughts still not fully settled. She glanced at him once, then looked away.

"I'll be resuming school," she said after a moment.

Caspian did not look up immediately. "Then resume."

Maya paused slightly, then nodded. "My schedule will change."

"That won't be a problem."

Maya watched him for a second. "I might not always be available."

Caspian finally looked up. "You don't need to be."

Maya blinked slightly, then lowered her gaze back to her plate. "Alright."

They continued eating in silence.

After a while, Maya spoke again, this time more quietly. "About earlier…"

Caspian did not interrupt.

Maya held her words for a moment, then said, "I meant what I said."

"I know."

His answer was simple.

Maya nodded slightly. "I just don't like things being done without me knowing."

Caspian watched her for a moment. "Noted."

That was all, but it was enough.

Maya let out a small breath and continued eating. The tension did not disappear, but it eased slightly. There was no argument, no long discussion, just an understanding that settled quietly between them.

After dinner, she stood up. "Good night."

"Good night."

She turned and walked back to her room.

When the door closed behind her, she sat down slowly, her mind quieter than before. Things were changing, not just around her, but between them. She did not fully understand it yet, but she could feel it.

She leaned back slightly and stared ahead, letting her thoughts settle on their own. For the first time since everything started, the tension inside her eased just a little.

And in another part of the house, Caspian remained seated for a while after she left, his phone resting on the table in front of him without his attention on it. His thoughts shifted briefly to Maya, to the way she spoke earlier, the way she stood her ground without raising her voice, and the way she still said thank you even after everything. It was not something he stopped to think deeply about, but it did not pass unnoticed either. For the first time, she was no longer just someone connected to him by an agreement. She had begun to stand out in a quiet way he had not expected, and even though he did not fully understand it yet, something had already started to change.
