Chapter 7 - Contractor and Energy Monster

In the matter of Michael losing a lot of memories, there must be a big secret because he still remembers plenty of other things. Knowledge he'd learned, inventions he'd seen, periods of history… all of it he remembers.

Only things related to relationships with people, those he can't remember clearly. He remembers a lot happened, but anything more specific like who it happened with, what that person looked like—there's no way to remember.

Even the inheritance he got, who it came from—now he can't remember at all, even though he's used that money for over ten years.

[It's exactly related to you becoming a genie. If you remembered that many people over such a long span of years, wouldn't it be very sad? Not remembering anyone is actually a good thing.]

Michael couldn't help falling silent. In the future, it's highly likely he'll live an extremely long time. And how long is a human lifespan?

Surely he'll witness each and every person leave him. Not remembering anyone, just like the system said, would make his spirit more relaxed.

But then he suddenly thought of that huge blue genie. Every contour of his body, his face—Michael remembered them clearly.

"What's up with that? Why didn't I forget that genie? Besides, if I forget people every time I see them, won't that be super annoying later when I'm granting wishes?"

He felt something was seriously off. There were people who'd been with him for years, now he can't even remember their faces, but someone he just met a few minutes ago he can remember really well.

[You can remember because that genie is the same rank as you, both of you are gods. As for humans or any other creatures, you can remember them too, but after leaving that world, you'll forget. If one day you return, then you can remember the things that happened there.]

Hearing that, Michael felt somewhat relieved. At least it's not forgetting everyone he meets—that would be extremely troublesome.

The reason he forgot everyone he ever met on Earth, according to the system, is because he left there. If one day work brought him back to Earth, maybe he'd remember them.

Of course, that's just his guess. The Earth he used to live on, now not even a speck of dust remains; for him to return is basically impossible.

"System, keep telling me about the power system here. Ah, start with my talent first."

Since nothing's a problem anymore, he figured it'd be better to focus on the future now. Becoming strong in a new world is an extremely important goal for him.

[Strictly speaking, I shouldn't interfere in this matter. But this is the first time you're a genie, so I'll help out a bit. I'll create an opportunity for you to meet a god who died on Sun & Sea continent. Whether you become his heir or not depends on you. But right now we're very far away, so I can't connect. When we get there, I'll send your soul over.]

This is… pulling strings? Michael suddenly felt a bit familiar. He'd used connections to apply for a job with an empty head before. This time he was relying on the system to take a shortcut to meet a god and ask for their legacy.

"Good, very good. I figure that god is dead anyway, so he'll do you a favor and hand over his power to me."

Michael was extremely confident about this because from his observations, although this system was a bit unreliable, it resembled a god more than an AI. The chance of that god doing it a favor was pretty high.

[That's got nothing to do with me; whether it works is up to you. Now I'll continue talking about the level division among contractors. The lowest level is zero, the highest is ninety-nine. Above ninety-nine is called 'god'.]

[You can refer to this table for the exp needed to increase each level.]

Level 1 → 10: 150 exp/level

Level 11 → 20: 300 exp/level

Level 21 → 30: 500 exp/level

Level 31 → 40: 650 exp/level

Level 41 → 50: 800 exp/level

Level 51 → 60: 1000 exp/level

Level 61 → 70: 1300 exp/level

Level 71 → 80: 1700 exp/level

Level 81 → 90: 2500 exp/level

Level 91 → 99: 18/16/14 years/level (8 stars/9 stars/god-level talent)

[One-star talent can train a maximum of one exp per day, two-stars is two exp per day… God-level talent, or can be called ten-stars, can increase a maximum of ten exp per day.]

[Special levels like ten, twenty,… ninety. Each level can absorb energy from an energy monster after killing it to increase their own combat power.]

[Energy monster ranks are also divided into ten ranks. However, they still cannot achieve the power of a god.]

[Below are the combat power and aura color of each energy monster rank. Combat power of an untrained, healthy adult is 1.]

1 stars: 3 → 10 (None)

2 stars: 11 → 20 (Bright White)

3 stars: 21 → 40 (Light Grey)

4 stars: 41 → 80 (Smoky Grey)

5 stars: 81 → 160 (Green)

6 stars: 161 → 320 (Blue)

7 stars: 321 → 640 (Purple)

8 stars: 641 → 1280 (Gold)

9 stars: 1281 → 2560 (Orange)

Demigod: 2816 – 3097 – 3406 (Light Red – Deep Red – Dark Red)

[Energy monsters aren't animals. They're the convergence of energy on the continent that has become conscious life forms. Nine-stars energy monsters and above have intelligence not much different from humans.]

???

This feeling was extremely familiar. Michael felt like he was very familiar with this kind of information. Wasn't this a lot like some kind of role-playing game? So the real world could be like a game too.

Exp needed to level up, max exp per day based on talent, all kinds of contractors looking like many different classes, energy monsters looking like monsters in a game that respawn endlessly for players to kill…

The more he looked, the more it seemed like playing a game, except for one thing: playing this game could actually get you killed.
