Chapter 28 - Cook God

The god's sudden movement made Michael, who was laughing, go silent. This overwhelming pressure couldn't possibly be a joke like that voice from earlier.

"Damn it, so this whole time he was just messing around with the dragon?"

Michael couldn't help but curse, not caring what that god thought. That attack just now was no joke. It wasn't inferior to combining Raphael and Rias's two techniques. To be honest, it was even a little stronger, just without the flashy effects.

"Hey, if you hate that voice, I'll set it as the default feature. From now on, you can freely use this voice, okay."

That god grinned, and his expression became twice as terrifying. But that friendly, somewhat cute, completely out-of-place voice made it impossible for Michael to truly feel afraid of him.

???

So that's it? He gets power inherited from a god. That casually? The peak power of the continent just gets given away like that?

"Wait a second, what the hell did you just say? You're just gonna decide to leave your power to me like that?"

The truth was stranger than a dream. No matter what, Michael couldn't believe that this god would hand over his power after only a few sentences.

And that funny voice? Michael didn't give a damn about the voice. In this world, who would dare laugh at a god except another god?

As long as he had the same strength as this god, no matter how cute his voice was, everyone on the continent would treat him with respect. With overwhelming power like this, even an emperor wouldn't dare act high and mighty with him.

"If I don't give it to you, who would I give it to? Over the last tens of thousands of years, you're the only one who's made it here. Plus, you're a god too, but way too weak. I feel totally embarrassed for you, so I'll just give you my power."

The god happily handed over all of his inheritance to Michael with such a half-assed reason. He didn't show a single hint of regret, which made Michael feel even stranger.

???

That reason seems way too half-assed. Just like that, the useless genie is about to become a super-strong genie?

The ease of this whole situation made Michael seriously suspect he was dreaming. If not, then this entire space was an illusion set up by this god to test him.

No matter how bizarre the thought, Michael still found it much more reasonable than how easy things were right now.

When he was on Earth, he understood one principle: nothing in life is free. If it seemed free, it was because he'd paid without realizing it.

"Just like that, you're giving it to me? No challenge or anything?"

Things were way too easy, making Michael extremely cautious. If this were Earth, he'd definitely suspect it was a scam, ready to sell him overseas or clean out his money.

"Challenge my ass. I've been dead for tens of thousands of years. Being stuck here with a tiny bit of soul isn't doing jack shit. Might as well just hand over my power to you and disappear."

Since it had come to this, if Michael kept being suspicious, he'd be out of line. That goddamn system had even tried to scare him earlier, saying there was a high chance of failure. Based on the current situation, the failure rate was zero percent.

"I'm the genie. But what kind of god are you exactly? And one more thing, after I inherit your power, will I be as strong as you are now?"

That last question was what Michael really wanted to know. He felt that blinking and suddenly having a god's power seemed very unreasonable. But if that was the case, nothing could be better—it would save him the time of training.

"Your imagination is pretty wild. I'm giving you talent at the god level, but of course you'll have to train from the start again. As for me… I'm called Cook God."

The fact that he wouldn't instantly become as strong as a god, Michael understood. But what the hell was Cook God?

This appearance full of killing intent, a fierce and terrifying face, his whole body looking like a war machine... This guy dares to call himself Cook God? What the hell does he cook? Cook his enemies?

"You don't believe me? Let me demonstrate. For millions of years on the continent, I've held the title of the continent's number one chef…"

Cook God wasn't lying. But back when he was alive, humanity hadn't developed much, so the culinary scene was still very poor. He held that title for millions of years simply because he was the only one who knew how to cook at that time.

"Then go ahead and try. If you can't cook anything decent, then you're lying."

Michael pouted, showing he didn't believe it. The name 'Cook God' and this god obviously didn't match at all. He just didn't understand why a god would use a fake name instead of their real one.

If Cook God was weak like him, then hiding to build up strength would make sense. But he was the peak of the continent. Why would the peak of the continent be afraid to say their real name?

Of course, another reason Michael could think of was that after living so long, Cook God got bored and was messing around. He didn't want to use his real name because he'd used it for too long and wanted to switch to a new one for fun.

"Hmph, don't underestimate me. I'm the king of dragon meat cooking. No one else dares to make this dish."

Cook God snorted and prepared to use his actions to 'slap' Michael's face for daring to look down on his culinary talent.

All six of his arms were covered in extremely sharp energy flows. He clapped his hands, and immediately the massive dragon leg appeared before him.

The moment the leg hadn't even begun to fall due to gravity, hundreds of slashes were unleashed by Cook God. In the blink of an eye, he had skinned it and cut the meat into neat, square chunks as if meticulously measured without a single millimeter off.
