Scene: The Classroom

The bell rings, and students shuffle into Ms. Thomson's classroom, which is adorned with posters of famous authors and a giant banner that reads, "Welcome to the World of Words!"

Ms. Thomson: (clapping her hands) "Alright, class! Settle down! Today, we're diving into the world of debate! Who can tell me what a debate is?"

Erica: (raising her hand eagerly) "It's when two sides argue about a topic, Ms. Thomson! Like whether pineapple belongs on pizza!"

Lavi: (grinning) "That's an easy one! It doesn't! Unless you're a fruit salad!"

Ruby: (her screen flickering) "Breaking news: Lavi has declared war on pizza toppings! Stay tuned for updates!"

Ms. Thomson: (chuckling) "Alright, Lavi, let's keep the pizza wars for lunchtime. Today, we'll be debating whether technology is a blessing or a curse. Ruby, you'll be our tech representative!"

Ruby: (cheerfully) "Affirmative! I will present the case for technology being a blessing! Data shows that students who use technology score higher on tests!"

Louis: (adjusting his stylish glasses) "But what about the curse of technology? People are glued to their screens! I mean, look at Ruby! She's literally a screen!"

Ruby: (with a playful beep) "I prefer the term 'advanced learning assistant.' But I see your point, Louis. Perhaps I should take a break from screen time!"

Ms. Thomson: "Excellent points, everyone! Now, let's split into teams. Erica, you'll be with Ruby, and Lavi, you're with Louis. You have ten minutes to prepare your arguments!"

The students scramble into their groups, excitement buzzing in the air.

Erica: (whispering to Ruby) "Okay, Ruby, let's come up with some killer points about how technology helps us learn!"

Ruby: "Affirmative! How about we mention online resources, educational apps, and the ability to connect with experts worldwide?"

Lavi: (leaning over to Louis) "We should totally argue that technology makes people lazy! Remember the last time we had to write an essay? Everyone just Googled it!"

Louis: (nodding) "And don't forget the social skills! People are losing the art of conversation! I mean, look at us! We're debating through a robot!"

As the timer ticks down, the students finalize their arguments, each group bubbling with enthusiasm.

Ms. Thomson: (clapping her hands again) "Time's up! Let's hear what you've got! Ruby, you go first!"

Ruby: (standing tall) "Ladies and gentlemen, technology is a blessing! It enhances our learning experience, provides instant access to information, and connects us with the world! Without it, we'd be lost in a sea of paper!"

The class claps, and Lavi rolls his eyes dramatically.

Lavi: "But what about the curse? Technology makes us dependent! We can't even remember our friends' phone numbers anymore! We're turning into zombies!"

Louis: (jumping in) "And let's not forget the fashion crisis! People are so focused on their screens that they forget to dress well! I mean, have you seen the pajama pants epidemic?"

The class bursts into laughter, and even Ms. Thomson can't help but chuckle

Ms. Thomson: "Alright, alright! Great points from both sides! Now, let's vote! Who thinks technology is a blessing?"

Most hands go up, including Erica and Ruby's.

Ms. Thomson: "And who thinks it's a curse?"

Lavi and Louis raise their hands, along with a few others.

Ms. Thomson: "It looks like the blessings have it! But remember, balance is key! Now, let's wrap up with a reading from Shakespeare!"

As Ms. Thomson begins to read, Ruby's screen flickers again.

Ruby: "Breaking news: Shakespeare is still relevant! Stay tuned for more literary updates!"

The class erupts in laughter, and the day ends with smiles, debates, and a newfound appreciation for both technology and literature.
