Chapter 23 - The Storm Sovereign

The journey began without hesitation.

Ravin moved through the forest with a steady pace, his steps lighter than before, his senses sharper, his awareness deeper. The decision had already been made. The mountains… the treasure… the unknown dangers that lay beyond—it all called to him.

And he answered.

Days passed as he advanced further than ever before. The forest began to change the deeper he went. The trees grew taller, their branches twisting into the sky like ancient guardians. The air became heavier, charged with a subtle tension that lingered beneath every breath.

This was no longer the outer forest.

This was something else.

Something older.

Stronger.

Ravin paused atop a small ridge, his eyes scanning the horizon. For the first time, he could see them.

The mountains.

Far in the distance, rising like giants against the sky, their peaks hidden behind clouds.

"…So that's the path."

But something else caught his attention.

The wind.

It shifted.

Suddenly.

Violently.

Ravin's eyes narrowed.

"…That's not natural."

A powerful gust swept through the forest, bending trees, scattering leaves, forcing him to plant his feet firmly against the ground. The mana within him reacted instantly, stabilizing his body.

Then—

Silence.

A moment of stillness.

Before—

A shadow passed overhead.

Ravin looked up.

And froze.

A massive figure descended from the sky, wings stretching wide, cutting through the air with absolute dominance.

White.

Radiant.

Majestic.

And terrifying.

The Pegasus.

Its presence alone altered the atmosphere. The wind moved around it, not randomly—but obediently. Controlled.

Alive.

Its eyes locked onto Ravin.

Sharp.

Aware.

Ancient.

Ravin's grip tightened around his sword.

"…So you're the ruler of the skies…"

The Pegasus stepped forward, its hooves touching the ground with surprising softness, yet the force behind them sent subtle tremors through the earth.

The wind began to gather.

Slowly at first.

Then faster.

Circling.

Building.

Ravin exhaled.

"…Guess there's no going around you."

No fear.

Only focus.

The mana within him ignited—red flames rising faintly around his body, mixed with the calm glow of healing energy beneath it.

Two forces.

One will.

The Pegasus moved first.

A single step—

And the wind exploded.

A violent current shot toward Ravin, faster than any attack he had faced before. He reacted instantly, raising his blade, channeling mana into it—

Impact.

The force slammed into him, pushing him backward across the ground, his feet carving deep lines into the earth.

"…Fast…!"

He barely held his ground.

The Pegasus didn't stop.

It rose into the air, wings beating once—

And the sky itself responded.

Blades of wind formed around it, sharp, invisible, deadly.

They came down.

Ravin moved.

Dodged.

Rolled.

Barely avoiding the attacks as they sliced through trees behind him, cutting them cleanly in half.

"…This is insane…"

He steadied himself.

Then—

He countered.

Flames ignited along his sword as he dashed forward, closing the distance in a burst of speed. He swung upward, aiming directly at the Pegasus.

But—

It wasn't there.

A blur.

Gone.

Ravin's eyes widened slightly.

"…Too fast."

The Pegasus reappeared behind him.

The impact came instantly.

A strike of pure wind slammed into his side, throwing him across the clearing. He hit the ground hard, rolling before forcing himself back up.

He coughed slightly.

But his eyes remained sharp.

"…Good…"

A faint smile appeared.

"…Now this is a real fight."

He pushed forward again.

This time, faster.

More aggressive.

Flame and motion combined as he launched a series of attacks, each strike infused with controlled mana. The Pegasus responded effortlessly, weaving through the attacks, its movements fluid, precise, untouchable.

Wind and fire clashed.

Again.

And again.

Ravin adapted quickly.

He began predicting its movement, adjusting his timing, forcing it to react rather than dominate.

For a moment—

The balance shifted.

His blade grazed its side.

A hit.

Small.

But real.

The Pegasus reacted instantly.

The air changed.

The wind stopped.

Then—

Compressed.

Ravin felt it.

A pressure unlike anything before.

"…What is this—"

Too late.

The Pegasus raised its wings.

And released everything.

A storm.

Not just wind—

A force.

A concentrated blast of overwhelming power surged forward, tearing through the ground, uprooting trees, shattering everything in its path.

Ravin raised his sword, channeling all his mana—fire and healing—into defense.

Impact.

The world went white.

The ground beneath him shattered.

His body was thrown back violently, crashing into the earth, the force ripping through his defenses as if they were nothing.

Silence followed.

Heavy.

Crushing.

Ravin lay on the ground, his body refusing to move.

His vision blurred.

His breathing shallow.

"…So… this is…"

His fingers twitched slightly.

"…the difference…"

The Pegasus stood at a distance, watching.

Not attacking.

Not finishing him.

Just observing.

Ravin forced himself to move.

To rise.

But his body failed him.

Again.

And again.

"…Damn it…"

For the first time in a long while—

He couldn't stand.

The healing mana inside him tried to respond, slowly repairing the damage, but the impact had been too much.

Too fast.

Too overwhelming.

His eyes lifted weakly toward the Pegasus.

"…I lost…"

Not fear.

Not regret.

Just truth.

The Pegasus turned away.

Slowly.

As if the fight was already decided.

Its wings spread.

The wind returned.

And with a single motion—

It ascended.

Gone.

Leaving behind silence.

Ravin lay there, staring at the sky.

His chest rising slowly.

Pain.

Everywhere.

But beneath it—

Something else.

A spark.

"…I'll reach that level…"

His voice was weak.

But certain.

"…No matter what."

His eyes slowly closed as exhaustion took over.

The forest grew quiet once more.

But this time—

It wasn't the calm before a storm.

It was the silence after defeat.

And the beginning—

Of something far greater.
