Chapter 60 - The Spirit Path Opens Deeper

CHAPTER 62

The Spirit Path Opens Deeper

The cultivation session on the sixty-second day lasted three hours.

Not because he had planned for three hours — the standard session was forty minutes, consistent since day one. It lasted three hours because something happened at the forty-minute mark that made stopping impossible, not in the way of compulsion but in the way that you do not stop a river that is moving correctly: you stay present with it, attend to it, and trust that it knows where it is going.

The Spirit Path, which had been operating at Prophetic Sight Stage 2 for three weeks, reached something. The best description he could produce afterward, reviewing it in the notebook with the careful precision he brought to all significant events, was: a depth. As though the cultivation had been moving through water that kept becoming more water until it arrived at a place where water was not the right word anymore.

In the final hour of the three, something opened.

Not outward — his Prophetic Sight's range was already hours of probability, spread around his present position. This was inward. Or rather: downward. Not physically downward but in the way that 'deeper' described something about dimension rather than direction.

He was, at the opening's exact moment, entirely awake and entirely in the cultivation posture and entirely in his room in Building Nine with the dock outside and the archive case on the desk.

And simultaneously, briefly, somewhere else entirely.

He came back to full waking awareness slowly. He sat for several minutes without moving. Then he opened the notebook and wrote for half an hour without stopping, capturing what the somewhere else had shown him before the quality of it faded.

Then the System's interface brightened.

The Ledger follows Host everywhere.',

He read this notification four times.

He read the line: They were real. The myths are memories.

He read: The Ledger follows Host everywhere.

He sat with the full scope of this for a very long time. Outside, the dock was going about its morning — the cranes, the water, the first shift's sounds carrying through the Building Nine walls in their usual pattern. The ordinary world conducting its ordinary business in the vicinity of a room where something extraordinary had just opened.

He thought about the Pre-Adamic eras. He thought about the Watchers — the name the oldest texts gave to a category of beings whose existence mainstream scholarship treated as allegory and which the System was now describing as a living environment he could walk into. He thought about the Nephilim, the giants of Genesis and older records, whose physical scale and power had been the subject of every civilisation's mythology in some form or another. He thought about the age of Noah — not as a story, but as a period of actual history, living and accessible.

He thought about every treasure that had been lost to history. Every library that had burned. Every civilisation that had vanished with its knowledge sealed inside it. Every artefact that had disappeared into the ground or the sea or the gap between the documented world and the world that had actually happened.

All of it accessible. All of it real. All of it transferable.

He thought: I need to understand what I am walking into before I walk into it.

He spent the afternoon in deep research — not library research, the Neural Lattice's enhanced capacity directed at the System's newly accessible historical records. He read the Tier 7 classification files on the Dream World with the same systematic attention he had given the engineering catalogues and the faction assessments. He read for six hours. He took forty pages of notes.

Then he went to sleep.

For the first time since the System's awakening, sleep was not a recovery. It was a door.
