Chapter 9 - Bride of the Shadow King

Chapter 9: The Enemy Beyond the Shadows

The castle had finally fallen silent again.

But the silence no longer felt calm.

It felt… uneasy.

Liora walked slowly through the long corridor, her footsteps echoing softly. Her mind kept replaying what had happened in the throne hall.

The Shadow King losing control…

The darkness going wild…

And her light stopping him.

Her chest tightened.

"He's more dangerous than I thought…"

But at the same time…

"He's also more fragile…"

She sighed softly.

She didn't know why, but her heart felt heavy.

As she reached her room, she noticed something unusual.

The shadow wolf was already waiting near her door.

"You're here again?"

The small creature wagged its tail and jumped toward her.

She smiled faintly and picked it up.

"You always come when something bad happens…"

The wolf rested its head against her arm.

She gently patted it.

"Don't worry… I'm fine."

But deep down…

She wasn't sure.

Meanwhile…

Deep outside the castle walls…

The darkness stirred.

Something moved in the forest.

Red eyes appeared in the shadows.

Then another.

And another.

Figures slowly emerged from the darkness.

They weren't human.

They weren't beasts either.

They were something… twisted.

One of them stepped forward.

A tall figure wearing dark armor.

His eyes glowed faintly blue.

Unlike the Shadow King's red eyes.

This one felt colder.

More calculating.

"So… the Shadow King is weakening."

His voice echoed softly.

Another figure spoke.

"Are you sure?"

"I felt it."

He looked toward the castle.

"His control is breaking."

A dark smile appeared on his face.

"Then it's time."

The others nodded.

"For centuries, we waited."

His eyes narrowed.

"And now… we take the throne."

The wind howled.

The shadows moved.

War was coming.

Back inside the castle—

Liora sat quietly on her bed.

The shadow wolf curled beside her.

She stared at her glowing hand faintly.

"My light…"

She still didn't understand it.

Where did it come from?

Why did she have it?

And why did it affect the Shadow King?

Her thoughts drifted again.

"You are his destruction."

The mirror's words echoed again.

Her chest tightened.

She shook her head.

"No…"

She didn't want that.

She wanted to help him.

Not destroy him.

Suddenly—

The wolf growled softly.

Her eyes widened.

"What is it?"

The wolf jumped off the bed.

It looked toward the door.

Its fur stood on end.

Her heart started racing.

Something was wrong.

Then—

The lights flickered.

The shadows along the walls twisted unnaturally.

Her breath caught.

"This feeling again…"

The air grew colder.

A loud boom echoed outside.

Her eyes widened.

"Something's happening…"

Without thinking—

She rushed out of the room.

The hallway felt tense.

Shadows moved strangely.

The castle felt… alert.

Then—

A deep voice echoed through the castle.

"Liora."

She turned quickly.

The Shadow King stood at the end of the hallway.

His expression was serious.

"Stay in your room."

Her heart tightened.

"What's happening?"

Silence.

Then—

"We have visitors."

Her breath caught.

"Visitors?"

His eyes darkened.

"Enemies."

Her pulse quickened.

"Enemies…?"

He stepped closer.

"Someone powerful has entered the forest."

Her hands trembled slightly.

"Are they dangerous?"

His voice lowered.

"Very."

Her chest tightened.

"Then we should—"

"You will stay here."

Her brows furrowed.

"But—"

"This is not a request."

His tone became firm.

She hesitated.

But she could see it.

He was serious.

She nodded slowly.

"Okay…"

He turned.

The shadows gathered around him.

But before he disappeared—

"Liora."

"Yes?"

"If anything happens…"

He paused.

"Don't leave the castle."

Her heart skipped.

"Alright…"

Then—

He vanished.

Outside the castle—

The Shadow King appeared instantly.

The wind howled around him.

He looked toward the forest.

His eyes narrowed.

"I know you're there."

Silence.

Then—

A figure stepped out of the darkness.

The man in dark armor.

Blue glowing eyes.

"So… you sensed me."

The Shadow King's expression hardened.

"You shouldn't be here."

The man smiled faintly.

"And yet… here I am."

Dark energy filled the air.

The Shadow King stepped forward.

"State your purpose."

The man's smile widened.

"I came… to take what's mine."

Silence.

The Shadow King's eyes glowed brighter.

"This kingdom belongs to me."

The man chuckled.

"For now."

The ground trembled slightly.

"You're weakening, Shadow King."

His eyes narrowed.

"You felt it… didn't you?"

The Shadow King remained silent.

The man continued.

"Your darkness is unstable."

The shadows around them stirred.

"And soon… you will fall."

The Shadow King's voice turned cold.

"You talk too much."

The darkness exploded around him.

The ground cracked.

The man smiled.

"Yes… that's the power I remember."

His blue eyes glowed brighter.

Dark energy formed around him.

The air grew tense.

"You're not the only one with darkness."

The Shadow King's expression shifted slightly.

"Who are you?"

The man stepped forward.

"I am… the one you left behind."

His voice dropped.

"Your former general."

The Shadow King's eyes widened slightly.

"You… survived?"

The man smiled.

"I evolved."

Dark energy surged.

"And now… I've come for the throne."

The Shadow King's eyes glowed.

"You'll die trying."

The man laughed softly.

"We'll see."

Suddenly—

Both moved at the same time.

Darkness collided.

The forest shook.

The battle began.

Inside the castle—

Liora felt it.

A powerful surge.

Her heart pounded.

"They started fighting…"

The wolf growled again.

Her hands trembled.

She remembered his words.

Don't leave the castle.

But…

Her heart refused to stay calm.

"What if he's hurt…?"

She bit her lip.

Her light flickered faintly.

Her decision was made.

"I'm sorry…"

She whispered.

Then—

She ran toward the castle gate.

Outside—

The night was darker than ever.

The battle raged in the distance.

Dark explosions lit the sky.

Her heart raced.

"I'm coming…"

Little did she know—

This decision…

Would change everything.
