Chapter 8 - The Truth He Can’t Hide

Chapter 8: The Truth He Can't Hide

The room was silent.

Too silent.

Only the sound of Meera's uneven breathing filled the air.

"…You're not normal, Meera."

Arjun's words echoed again and again in her mind.

Her fingers slowly tightened around his shirt.

"…What do you mean?"

Her voice was weak.

But her eyes—

They demanded answers.

Arjun didn't reply immediately.

For the first time since she met him—

He looked… unsure.

That scared her more.

"You said I'm chosen… for a war," Meera continued.

"What war? What are those shadows? And WHY me?!"

Her voice broke slightly at the end.

Tears filled her eyes.

"I didn't ask for this…" she whispered.

Arjun looked away.

His jaw tightened.

"I was trying to keep you out of this," he said quietly.

"Then you failed," Meera replied instantly.

Silence.

Heavy.

Arjun closed his eyes for a moment.

As if he had been holding something back for too long.

"…There are things in this world," he finally said,

"that normal people can't see."

Meera listened carefully.

Her heart still racing.

"Those shadows…" he continued,

"They're not just darkness. They're beings."

"Beings?"

"They exist between worlds," Arjun said.

"Neither fully alive… nor completely gone."

A chill ran down Meera's spine.

"And now… they're after you."

"WHY?!" she shouted.

Arjun looked at her.

This time—

He didn't avoid it.

"…Because of that mark."

Meera slowly looked at her wrist again.

The mark was faint now.

But still there.

"It's not just a symbol," Arjun said.

"It's a sign."

"A sign of what…?"

Arjun hesitated.

Then finally—

"A power."

Meera's breath stopped.

"That mark means you have something inside you," he continued.

"Something they've been searching for… for a long time."

Her hands started shaking again.

"I don't have any power!" she said.

"I'm just a normal girl!"

Arjun stepped closer.

His voice softened slightly.

"…Not anymore."

Those words hit harder than anything else.

Tears rolled down Meera's cheeks.

"I don't want this…"

Arjun's expression changed.

For the first time—

There was something gentle in his eyes.

"I know," he said quietly.

"But wanting doesn't change reality."

Meera looked at him.

Broken.

Confused.

"Then what am I supposed to do?"

Arjun took a deep breath.

"You survive," he said.

A pause.

"And you learn."

"Learn what?"

"How to control it."

Meera shook her head slowly.

"This is too much…"

Arjun didn't argue.

He understood.

But time wasn't on their side.

"They'll come again," he said seriously.

Meera froze.

"And next time…"

He looked straight into her eyes.

"They won't hold back."

Fear filled her completely.

"What about my family…?" she asked softly.

Arjun's expression darkened.

"If they find out about you…"

He didn't finish the sentence.

But he didn't need to.

Meera understood.

"No…" she whispered.

Her fear turned into determination.

"I won't let them get hurt."

Arjun watched her carefully.

That was the first time—

He saw something different in her.

Not just fear.

Strength.

"…Then you need to trust me," he said.

Meera hesitated.

Trust him?

After everything?

But then—

She remembered something.

He saved her.

Again and again.

Even when he didn't have to.

Slowly—

She nodded.

"…Okay."

That one word changed everything.

Because now—

They weren't just strangers connected by danger.

They were connected by something deeper.

Trust.

And maybe…

Something more.

Outside—

The wind began to rise again.

Far away—

Something was watching.

Waiting.

And this time—

It wasn't alone.
