Chapter 5 - The Mark

Lina woke up in the middle of the night.

She didn't know why, but she felt strange. The room was dark and quiet. The moonlight was coming through the window and lighting the floor with a soft white light.

She sat up slowly and put her hand on her chest. Her heart was beating fast, like she had a bad dream, but she didn't remember any dream.

Then she felt a pain in her wrist.

"Ah…" she whispered.

The pain was sharp, like a burn. Lina quickly turned on the small lamp next to her bed and looked at her wrist.

There was a mark.

A small, dark mark that she had never seen before. It looked like a circle with lines inside it, like a strange symbol.

Lina touched it softly. "What is this…?"

The mark was warm, almost hot, like it was burning under her skin.

Suddenly, her phone vibrated.

She jumped a little and took her phone. It was a message from Adrian.

Adrian:Are you okay?

Lina frowned. Why is he asking me that?

Lina:Yes… I think so. Why?

Adrian replied very fast.

Adrian:I felt something. Something is wrong tonight.

Lina looked at the mark again.

Lina:Adrian… I have something on my wrist. A strange mark.

There was no reply for almost a minute. Then:

Adrian:Don't go anywhere. I'm coming.

Lina's heart started beating faster. She didn't know why, but she felt that this mark was not something normal.

She went downstairs quietly so she wouldn't wake her parents. She sat on the sofa and looked at her wrist again and again.

Why do I feel like this mark means something? she thought.

After a few minutes, someone knocked on the door.

Lina opened the door. Adrian was standing there. He looked serious and a little worried.

"Show me," he said immediately.

Lina showed him her wrist.

Adrian took her hand and looked at the mark. His face changed. He looked shocked.

"Adrian… you're scaring me," Lina said.

Adrian looked at her and said quietly, "Where did you get this?"

"I don't know. I just woke up and it was there," Lina said.

Adrian was silent for a moment, then he said, "This is not just a mark."

"Then what is it?" Lina asked.

Adrian looked at the symbol again. "I've seen this before… a long time ago."

Lina felt cold. "When?"

Adrian looked into her eyes.

Lina didn't say anything.

"The girl I told you about… Elena," Adrian continued. "She had the same mark."

Lina's eyes widened. "The same mark? What does that mean?"

Adrian didn't answer immediately. He looked like he was thinking.

"It means trouble," he said finally.

Before Lina could ask another question, they heard a noise outside. Like something moving very fast.

Adrian turned his head toward the door. "Stay here," he said.

But it was too late. The door opened suddenly.

Lucas walked in like he owned the house.

"Good evening," he said with a small smile.

"Lucas, get out," Adrian said coldly.

Lucas ignored him. He looked at Lina, then at her wrist.

His smile disappeared.

"Well… this is interesting," Lucas said slowly.

Lina hid her hand a little. "What do you mean?"

Lucas walked closer. "This mark… I haven't seen it in a very long time."

"Adrian said Elena had the same mark," Lina said.

Lucas looked at Adrian, then back at Lina. "So he told you about her."

"Stop," Adrian said to Lucas. "Don't say anything."

Lucas smiled a little. "She deserves to know."

"Know what?" Lina asked.

Lucas looked at her Directly he said:

"This mark means that your life is going to change."

"My life already changed," Lina said.

Lucas shook his head. "No. You don't understand. This mark means that you are not just a normal girl."

Lina felt scared again. "Then what am I?"

Lucas leaned a little closer and said quietly:

"You are someone very important."

"Important for what?" Lina asked.

Lucas replied:

"For vampires. For werewolves. For this town."

The room became very quiet.

Lina looked at Adrian. "Is he telling the truth?"

Adrian looked at her and said, "Yes… but not everything."

"Then tell me everything!" Lina said. "I'm tired of secrets. Everyone knows something except me!"

Adrian and Lucas looked at each other.

Then Adrian said slowly:

"This mark means that you have a special blood."

"Special blood?" Lina repeated.

Lucas nodded. "Your blood is not normal. It's… different. Stronger. That's why the werewolf attacked you. That's why I saved you. That's why Adrian is always near you."

Lina felt like the world was spinning. "So I'm just… blood for monsters?"

Adrian said quickly, "No! That's not what I mean."

Lucas looked at her and said softly, "You are not just blood, Lina. You are power."

Lina didn't know why, but when he said that, the mark on her wrist started hurting again.

She held her wrist. "Ah… it hurts again…"

Adrian took her hand. "The mark is reacting."

"To what?" Lina asked.

Lucas replied: "To us."

Lina looked at both of them. "I don't want this. I don't want this world. I just want a normal life."

Adrian said quietly, "I know."

Lucas said, "Normal life is boring anyway."

Lina looked at him angrily. "This is not a joke!"

Lucas looked at her for a moment, then said in a serious voice:

"Lina… from now on, you have to be careful. Because if other vampires know about you… they will come."

"Come for what?" Lina asked.

Lucas looked at her wrist and said:

"For your blood."

Lina felt fear like never before.

"And we can't protect you from everyone," Adrian said.

Lina looked at the mark again and whispered:

"What am I…?"

No one answered.

That night, Lina opened her diary and wrote:

My life is not normal anymore.Vampires are real. Werewolves are real. And now they say my blood is special. They say I am important. But I don't want to be important.I just want to be safe. But I feel that something big is coming…And I'm afraid that my life will never be the same again.

She closed the diary, but outside, in the darkness, someone was watching the house again.

And this time… it was not Lucas.
