The path did not shift.
For the first time since entering this place—since entering any of it—
the ground beneath their feet remained constant.
No distortion...No reaction.
No silent observation adjusting to their presence.
Just—A path...Straight...Endless...Unchanging.
Kaizen noticed it immediately.
"…It's not responding anymore."
The goblin walked ahead, pace steady.
"…Still."
Aeris slowed slightly, her gaze scanning the unmoving structure around them
"…No," she said quietly. "…It's not still."
Kaizen glanced at her.
"…Then what is it?"
A pause.
"…It's decided."
That word lingered longer than it should have.
Kaizen didn't like it.
"…Decided what?"
Aeris didn't answer.
Because ahead—The path ended...Abruptly...Not fading...Not breaking...Ending.
And beyond it—There was nothing...Not darkness like before...Not void.
Just—Absence.!
Kaizen stopped.
"…We're really doing this again?"
The goblin stepped forward.
"…More."
Of course it did...Aeris stepped beside Kaizen...Closer than before...Not by accident.
"…This isn't the same," she said.
"…It never is."
A pause.
"…But it always gets worse."
The goblin reached the edge.
Stopped...Looked down.
"…No path."
Kaizen crossed his arms slightly.
"…Yeah, I can see that."
Aeris stepped forward slowly...Her eyes focused.
"…Wait."
Kaizen raised an eyebrow.
"…You've got something?"
She didn't respond immediately.
Instead—She stepped past the edge.
And didn't fall...The space beneath her foot—Formed...Not visible...Not structured...But present.
Kaizen blinked.
"…Okay."
A pause.
"…That's new."
The goblin stepped forward next.
No hesitation...The same thing happened.
The path—Continued...Invisible...But real.
Kaizen exhaled slowly.
"…Guess we're doing this."
He stepped forward.
And for a moment—There was nothing beneath him.
Then—Something caught...Not solid...Not stable...But enough.
"…I hate this place," he muttered.
Aeris glanced back at him.
"…You're still here."
"…Barely."
But he didn't step back...None of them did.
They moved forward—Into nothing.
And with each step—The path formed only where they chose to go.
Behind them—Nothing remained...No trace...No return.
After several steps, Kaizen spoke.
"…So this place…"
A pause.
"…It only exists if we move?"
Aeris nodded slowly.
"…Not exactly."
"…Then what?"
She looked ahead.
"…It exists where we decide."
Silence...The goblin spoke.
"…Choice."
Aeris nodded.
"…Yes."
Kaizen exhaled.
"…Everything comes back to that."
The air shifted...Subtly...But enough.
The path ahead flickered—Then stabilized...Something was forming...Not forced. .Not imposed...Chosen.
And from that choice—A structure emerged...Smaller than before...Simpler.
.A single platform....Floating in the absence.
At its center—A figure...Kneeling....Still.
Kaizen narrowed his eyes.
"…We're not done yet."
The goblin stepped forward.
"…More."
They approached carefully this time...Not rushing...Not blindly.
Because something about this—Felt different...Closer...More personal.
As they stepped onto the platform—The figure moved...Slowly...Rising to its feet.
And when it turned—Kaizen froze.
"…No."
Aeris inhaled sharply.
"…That's…"
The goblin tilted its head.
"…Same."
The figure looked exactly like Aeris...Not similar...Not resembling...Exact...Every detail.
Every movement...Every breath.But her eyes—Were different...Empty...Not cold...Not calculating.
Just—Blank.
"…You are late," it said.
The voice—Perfectly hers.
Aeris stepped back instinctively.
"…That's not me."
The copy tilted its head slightly.
"…Incorrect."
A pause.
"…I am what you would be… if you completed your function."
Kaizen glanced at her.
"…You've got one too, huh?"
Aeris didn't respond.
Her eyes locked on the figure.
"…I don't have a function like that."
The copy smiled faintly.
"…You were created to understand."
A pause.
"…Not to feel."
Silence...Heavy...Uncomfortable.
Kaizen stepped forward.
"…Yeah, we've heard that one before."
The copy didn't look at him.
"…You interfere."
Kaizen smirked faintly.
"…I do that."
The goblin stepped forward.
"…Test."
The copy's gaze shifted.
"…Irrelevant."
And then—It moved...Faster than expected. Not attacking Kaizen...Not attacking the goblin.
It moved toward—Aeris.
Kaizen reacted instantly—
Stepping in ..
Blocking—But the copy didn't strike...It touched her...Lightly...Fingertips against her forehead.
And in that moment!
Aeris froze.
Completely.
"…Aeris!" Kaizen snapped.
No response...Her eyes—Went distant. .The copy spoke softly.
"…You are fragmented."
A pause.
"…I will restore you."
Kaizen stepped forward—Grabbing the copy's arm—Pulling it away—The contact broke—
Aeris staggered—Breathing sharply.
"…No…"
Her voice—Unsteady....Different.
Kaizen held her steady.
"…Hey."
She looked at him—But something in her gaze had changed...Not completely...But enough.
"…I saw it…" she whispered.
"…Saw what?"
Her breath shook slightly.
"…What I was supposed to be."
Silence...The copy spoke again...Calm...Certain.
"…You hesitate."
A pause.
"…You deviate."
Aeris straightened slowly.
Her expression—Shifting...Not broken...Not lost...But… conflicted.
"…I choose," she said quietly.
The copy tilted its head.
"…Incorrect."
Kaizen stepped beside her.
"…No."
A pause.
"…She's right."
The goblin moved closer.
"…Choice."
The copy looked at all three of them.
And for the first time—Something flickered...Not confusion...Not doubt.
Something like… recalculation.
"…Deviation spreading," it said.
Kaizen smirked slightly.
"…Yeah."
A pause.
"…That's kind of our thing."
The copy raised its hand...The space around them tightened...Not violently...But deliberately.
"…Correction required."
Aeris stepped forward.
Not behind Kaizen.
Not waiting.
Standing beside him.
"…No."
Her voice—Steady...Clear...Real.
"…I won't go back."
Silence...The copy watched her...Longer this time.
Then!!
"…Then you will break."
Aeris didn't move.
"…Then I break."
Kaizen glanced at her.
Just briefly....Then smiled faintly.
"…Guess we're doing this."
The goblin stepped forward.
"…More."
The platform beneath them pulsed....The space tightened further.
The next confrontation—Was inevitable...But this time—It wasn't about power.
It wasn't about survival. It was about—Identity. And what they were willing to lose—To keep it.
As the moment intensified— The danger wasn't in the impending attack…
It was in the decision someone would make. The eyes of the static clone blazed with a cold light, while Aeris's features began to twitch for a moment— Just one moment.
But it was enough. Kaizen clenched his fist. "Don't back down…"
Her whisper was barely audible. But— Was she hearing him… or someone else inside her?
And in the emptiness around them—Cracks formed.
Not in the place…But in the choice itself.
Something was breaking. And one question remained.
Who will remain… and who will vanish?
...
If Aeris had to choose between her "original role" and her new self!!
would she be able to hold onto her humanity…?
Or would she be forced to revert to what she was designed for?
...
