The platform trembled—Not from force...From conflict.
It spread outward in subtle fractures, not in the structure beneath their feet, but in something deeper.
The space itself began to ripple, reacting to a tension that could not be resolved through balance alone.
Aeris stood still.
Too still.
Kaizen noticed immediately.
"…Hey."
No response.
Her eyes remained locked on the copy before her.
the version that did not hesitate, did not question, did not feel.
The version that was complete...The version that was correct.
"…Aeris," Kaizen said again, firmer this time.
Still nothing...The copy spoke.
"…You are unstable."
A pause.
"…Return to alignment."
The air tightened.
The platform beneath them responded—not violently, but decisively.
Lines of faint structure began to form around Aeris, subtle threads reaching toward her like something reclaiming what had been misplaced.
The goblin tilted its head.
"…Taking."
Kaizen stepped forward instantly—His hand grabbing Aeris's shoulder.
"…No."
The threads halted...Just slightly...But enough...The copy's gaze shifted to him.
"…You interfere again."
Kaizen didn't move.
"…Yeah."
A pause.
"…Get used to it."
The threads pulsed again.
Stronger this time.
Aeris's body tensed.
Her breath caught—And then—She spoke.
"…Stop."
Everything froze...The threads...The space.
Even the subtle hum of whatever governed this place...The copy tilted its head.
"…You resist."
Aeris's eyes flickered.
Not empty...Not lost...Fighting.
"…I choose."
The words came out strained—but real...The copy's voice sharpened.
"…You were not designed to choose."
Aeris's hand clenched slowly at her side.
"…Then I'm more than what I was designed for."
The platform trembled harder.
The space around them fractured further—hairline cracks forming in the air itself, thin distortions that bent light in impossible ways.
Kaizen stepped beside her.
Close...Not touching...But present.
"…You don't have to prove anything to it."
Aeris didn't look at him...But her voice softened—Just slightly.
"…I know."
The goblin stepped forward.
"…More."
The copy raised its hand...The threads surged.
This time—They didn't stop.
They wrapped around Aeris's arms, her torso, her neck—not violently, but with absolute control. Each strand pulsed with faint light, stabilizing her form, forcing alignment.
Kaizen moved instantly—His blade cutting through the threads—But they reformed faster than he could strike.
"…Damn it!"
The goblin joined—Claws tearing through the structure—More threads snapping—
More forming—An endless cycle...The copy stepped forward...Unhindered...Unrushed.
"…You cannot escape your origin."
Aeris struggled...Not physically—But internally.
Her body shook—not from resistance, but from something deeper. Her form flickered slightly, like the system was trying to rewrite her back into something simpler.
"…You are incomplete," the copy continued.
"…I am correcting that."
Kaizen's jaw tightened.
"…You're not fixing anything."
No response...The threads tightened.
Aeris's breath hitched...Her eyes dimmed—Just slightly.
Kaizen saw it...And something in him—Snapped.
"…No."
He stepped forward—Closer than before—Ignoring the threads.
Ignoring the pressure—His hand reached out—Grabbing hers...Firm...Real.
The threads reacted instantly...Surging...Trying to separate them...But Kaizen didn't let go.
"…You said you choose," he said quietly.
Aeris's eyes flickered.
"…Kaizen…"
"…Then choose."
A pause.
"…Right now."
The world held its breath...The copy observed...Unmoving...Uncertain—for the first time.
"…Choice is irrelevant," it said.
"…Outcome is predetermined."
Kaizen didn't look at it.
"…Then why are you still trying?"
Silence.
Aeris's hand tightened slightly in his...Barely noticeable...But enough.
The threads pulsed violently—Trying to reassert control—Trying to override—Trying to finish her.
"…You were not meant to feel," the copy said sharply.
"…You were not meant to hesitate."
Aeris's voice came out faint—But clear.
"…Then why do I?"
The threads faltered...Just for a moment.
Kaizen felt it.
"…That's it."
He stepped closer.
"…That's your answer."
The goblin stood beside them now...Watching...Learning.
"…Different."
The copy's voice sharpened.
"…Error."
Aeris inhaled sharply—Her form flickering violently—The threads tightening—
Pushing her to collapse back into alignment.
"…Stop resisting!"
"No," she said.
This time—Stronger...The threads froze.
Then—Cracked...Not broken completely.
But weakened...The copy stepped forward instantly.
Its hand reaching out—Toward her.
"…I will restore—"
Kaizen moved..Faster than before...His blade cutting through the space between them—
Interrupting the motion—Not clean—Not perfect—But enough.The copy paused.
Just long enough...For the goblin to strike. Its claw tore through the threads surrounding Aeris—
Not removing them—But disrupting them—Creating space.
Aeris gasped—The pressure lifting—Her body stabilizing—Her eyes—Clear again.
"…I choose," she repeated.
The words resonated..Not loudly...But deeply...The threads—Collapsed.
Not forced...Not destroyed...Rejected...The copy stepped back...Its form flickering.
"…Deviation… confirmed…"
Kaizen exhaled.
"…Yeah."
A pause.
"…You're going to have to deal with that."
The copy looked at them.
All three of them...And for the first time—It didn't respond immediately.
Something had changed...Not in them...In it.
"…You are no longer aligned."
A pause.
"…You cannot proceed."
Kaizen smirked faintly.
"…We've heard that before."
The goblin stepped forward.
"…More."
The copy's gaze sharpened.
"…Then you will collapse."
The platform trembled violently...The cracks in the air spread—Faster now—Deeper—
The space itself destabilizing...Aeris's voice lowered.
"…It's not just reacting to me…"
Kaizen frowned.
"…Then what?"
She looked at the space around them.
"…It's reacting to all of us."
The goblin tilted its head.
"…Together."
Aeris nodded slowly.
"…Yes."
A pause.
"…We're not supposed to exist like this."
Kaizen exhaled.
"…Yeah."
A faint smirk.
"…That sounds about right."
The copy raised its hand again...But this time—The reaction was different.
The space didn't tighten...It broke.
A deep fracture tore through the platform—Splitting it in half—
The void beneath it expanding—Pulling everything downward.
"…This is bad," Kaizen muttered.
The goblin didn't move.
"…More."
Of course...Aeris stepped closer to Kaizen—Not by accident.
"…We need to move."
"…Where?" he asked.
The answer came immediately.
"…Forward."
The only direction left...The platform continued to collapse—The space unraveling.
The copy remained where it stood—Unmoving—Watching.
"…You cannot escape," it said.
Kaizen looked at it.
"…We're not trying to escape."
A pause.
"…We're moving."
He grabbed Aeris's hand again.
Not hesitating this time.
"…Come on."
The goblin moved ahead—Leaping across the breaking space—Landing on what remained.
Creating a path—One step at a time.Kaizen followed—Pulling Aeris with him.
Each step collapsing behind them—The void rising.
The structure failing...The copy's voice echoed behind them.
"…You are unstable…"
"…You are incomplete…"
"…You will fail."
Kaizen didn't look back.
"…Maybe."
A step forward..The ground broke again..He jumped...Landed...Pulled Aeris up beside him.
"…But not here."
The goblin moved again...Faster now...More certain.
The space ahead flickered—Forming—Breaking—Reforming...A path—Barely.
Aeris stumbled slightly—Kaizen caught her—Didn't let go.
"…You good?"
She nodded—Breathing uneven—
"…I chose…"
A faint smile—
"…I'm not going back."
Kaizen smirked.
"…Good."
Behind them—The platform collapsed completely...The copy—Fell with it.
Its form dissolving into the fracture—But its voice remained.
"…This is not the end…"
"…You cannot become what you are not…"
Silence...!!
Then—Nothing...The space stabilized...Slowly...The path ahead solidified...Clear...Unbroken.
Kaizen slowed...Stopped..Breathing steady now...He looked around.
"…We made it."
The goblin stood ahead...Unmoved.
"…More."
Kaizen laughed softly.
"…Yeah."
Of course.
Aeris stepped beside him..Closer..Her presence—Different now...Not just part of the system.
Not just something interpreting...Something—More.
"…Thank you," she said quietly.
Kaizen shrugged lightly.
"…You did the hard part."
A pause.
Their eyes met..Just for a moment..Then—The path ahead shifted...Not violently..Not unpredictably.
But with purpose...Something was waiting..Again.But this time—It felt different.
Not like a test...Not like a correction...Something else.Something—Final.
Kaizen looked forward.
His expression steady.
"…Guess we're not done yet."
Aeris shook her head slightly.
"…No."
The goblin stepped forward.
"…More."
Kaizen smirked.
"…Yeah."
A pause.
"…Let's finish this."
They moved...Together...Into whatever came next.
...
After Aeris chose her own path and survived the collapse...
Is what awaits them the end?
Or the beginning of a more perilous test than before?
...
