Kaelen's POV
I paced my quarters while time crawled forward. The aquamarine brooch gleamed from its velvet case on my desk, catching light from the lamp. Tomorrow's ceremony loomed ahead of us. Everything was arranged down to the smallest detail. Yet this crushing weight in my chest refused to lift.
A gentle knock interrupted my restless thoughts.
"Enter."
The young Omega from the kitchen staff stepped inside, guiding a silver cart through the doorway. The wheels glided silently across the stone floor. Polished domes concealed the evening meal. Aromatic steam escaped from their edges, bringing hints of seasoned meat and warm bread.
"Your dinner request, Alpha." She positioned each item with meticulous care, adjusting a fork here and straightening a napkin there. "Is there anything additional you require?"
"This is perfect. Thank you."
She inclined her head respectfully before departing. The door sealed shut with a soft click.
