Silence settled over the bathroom like a suffocating blanket.
Not the peaceful kind of quiet. The kind that made every whispered word feel like a gunshot. Where every stare burned holes through my skin like acid.
My broken hand pulsed with agony. Each heartbeat sent fresh waves of pain shooting up my arm, but the physical hurt was nothing compared to the hollow ache spreading through my chest.
The recording had destroyed everything.
Alpha Cassius remained positioned near the doorway, unmoved since my father had collapsed to his knees. His arms stayed folded across his chest. His face remained a mask of indifference, carved from stone.
Father knelt on the tile floor, surrounded by blood and shattered glass. His knees had landed on the sharp fragments, and I watched crimson seep through his pants. The sight of his blood mixing with Lyra's on the white floor made my stomach turn.
